The ScoutCast – Episode 247 – Frankenstein

Granville created the monster that is the template squad – only for it to turn on him.

That delicious analogy sums up the latest Gameweek for the ScoutCast team, as our mediocre scores were left dwarfed by those who dared to break from the norm to turn to the unlikely differential that was Sergio Aguero.

This latest episode conducts a full post-mortem, as the aforementioned Granville is joined by Jonty, Andy, and Az to contemplate another #Kanexit scenario with the clamour for Man City “nostalgia pick” intensifying.

I miss out with flu. The kind that creates bleary-eyed selfies in Swansea City centre Marriot hotels. But unlike Kane’s notorious Gameweek 22, I fail to make a 17-minute appearance, and instead listen in while the quartet tackle more community questions, creating their own motley crew of characters along the way.

In the midfield chat, Az spits bile in the direction of “JLings”, while Jonty fancies Shaqiri “Ironside” as a poor man’s Hazard. Lukasz “Lidl” Fabianksi turns up in the debate on goalkeepers, while the team are unanimous on the fate of Andreas “The Curse” Christensen.

NB: this ScoutCast was recorded prior to confirmation that Manchester City’s fixture with Arsenal is likely to remain in Gameweek 28. Oh, and Az was off the mark when he said that City play Basel after West Brom, that first leg tie follows the Gameweek 27. Don’t panic Aguero owners. Leave that to the rest of us.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

I standardised it so they're all in order of best-to-worst defensively - so most clean sheets is 1st, but least goals conceded is 1st, and so on.

Yep, all pretty impressive. I didn't get the chance to say this on Tuesday but in the notes I sent to the guys, I said that I didn't think that WBA were going to be quite so easy to knock over as Newcastle.

Much depends on the FAC line-ups though - if WBA go full strength and City rest their top players, it could change things.

Much depends on the FAC and who gets minutes. I'll likely go Salah but I do worry about Liverpool again.

Wagner's team have done well vs United and City and he knows how Klopp will play. It's all on the early goal.

Agreed. We know City can tear apart anyone on their day, though - Liverpool had conceded 4 in 11 at Anfield before City scored 3 there without even playing well.

There's a general sense that Pardew can't set up a team defensively, but I don't think it's true. He kept plenty of clean sheets the season Newcastle finished 5th.

I think he's really just a manager that tries to play to strengths of the team he inherits, rather than imposing any preferred style. No surprise what he's done with a Pulis team.

If the team in question was any other team than City, I would really consider changing my captain after seeing these stats but City at home scored 5 against LIV (well, against 10 men), 4 against TOT, 3 against BUR (at their best), 3 against ARS and even in the matches they struggled most (SOT, WHM), they scored 2. That statistically means to me that City at home would score at least 2 against any opponent (EVE being the only exception). In average they score 3,5 goals at home (42 in 12). I also think that, with Kun nailed in last games, he seems to be playing more central role in City attacks than before, having the ball more, shooting more, etc.( it is just my observation, no stats to back that)

On the other hand, I think that LIV can easily score 4-5 against HUD but their form is more fluctuated comparing to City. I also think that they would not fail twice in row so they will do good against HUD and Salah will take his part on that as usual.

I will captain Kun but If I did not have him I would give the armband to Salah with the same comfort. Both are good candidates. That being said, when I first captained Salah @GW17, he blanked first time after 8 games and it was against WBA of Pardew at home 🙂

      Is Evans staying ?
One win in the 10 games is not good.

Fixtures have been reasonably kind over the last 10 games against poor attacking teams and next 3 games include a trip to both City and Chelsea

One to watch in 3 weeks time for me

Folk will say 'but firmino blanked at Swansea' but in reality he was a bawhair away from a brace - tad unlucky with the handball in the first half and 9 times out of 10 he scores the last min header - just felt like one of those nights for Liverpool - certainly wouldn't expect lightning to strike twice next week

It mentions last updated Jan 19th. We are updating tomorrow as it happens but I will remove Danilo now in lieu of that.

Yeah I'm rightly pissed over the TV, it was a plastic hammer so I'm confused how he could have broke it.

When I gave out to him for doing it he turned round and said I was a poop - head.

So I'm a poop- head without a TV.
