The ScoutCast – Episode 255 – Wilder

Wildcards are very much active among the ScoutCast crew, and while only three of us make this latest episode, all five are in play ahead of the Double Gameweeks.

Not surprisingly, our rebuilding programme dominates the discussion as Jonty and Andy join me to reveal our current squads and our chosen strategy leading into the remaining seven Gameweeks.

In an exhaustive and in-depth episode, the three of us also look back on the success of the Free Hit in Gameweek 31. Then we attempt to offer a balanced view on the variety of chip tactics from this point on, with a team-by-team analysis of the player targets to consider.

We fail miserably of course, with our own bias no doubt shining through, though the conclusion is an uplifting one: whatever your chosen route with the chips to Gameweek 38, we will all win out in the end.

Unless you don’t have your Wildcard and Free Hit, in which case you’re now consigned to spending the next two months behind the sofa and hate us all anyway.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday evening. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

        Firmino, Vardy, Wilson

Just brought in Mahrez & Vardy, so leaves two weeks to fill up on DGW 34 players. Butland & Baines > DDG & Stephens on the cards.

    What option is better?
    1) Lukaku, auba, tarko, Mustafi for now, and do auba and Mustafi to Vardy and alonso before gw34

Would 10 dgw 34 BB and 8 plus transfers be enough to navigate 35 with no FH?

If you have no FH you're always going to be up against it. Sounds like you might be limiting the damage well yes. For people in your situation the trick may be to have a differential or two over the next few weeks. Man City and Liverpool options could be good. Most wildcarders will only on Salah in my opinion.

    Which looks the better option?

    A. Smalling. Enough in the bank to bring in Kane with 1ft in gwk 36

    B. Bailly but will need 2Fts (or potentially 1 hit) for Kane in Gwk 36

I can see Smalling's name a lot. Is he really going to play twice in either double? Are people just taking that risk? Surely there's too much competition with Bailley and Jones first choice earlier in the season, plus the likes of Lindlelof and Rojo in the background.

Why no Smalling now Andy? You thinking like me that he just isn't secure enough? Have you considered going cheap in the Smalling position then upgrading Vert to Valencia? That's what i'm currently on but still worried about rest/rotation.

Whenever someone asks me who is the most nailed Man United defender (CB) my initial thought is Bailly.

He's now back from injury. Jones is too (who was first choice for nearly all season).

Smalling has played a lot but I think most of those matches were when one of the other 2 were injured. Just not sure I can trust him.

I do only need him for GW34 - after that the rest of my defenders could potentially carry him through to the end (or I can transfer out). It's a tempter but will be frustrating if he's benched.

Did you see my Valencia option? If you have someone like Dunk in the Smalling position you can upgrade Vertonghen to Valencia. Let's be honest double Utd defence was your initial idea.

I agree that Vert is a good option and one i'm considering. However he may only come good from GW36 onwards. With the double Brighton defence you should only really need to play both for GW33 (HUD) and the DGW34. I'm having this same decision at the back so just thinking out loud.

I was in the same situation, Mustafi will be a rotation risk 3 days after playing in Russia, Christensen isn't reliable to play 3 in a week.

Just stick with Smalling, like you said, as long as he's ok for GW34, you don't need him after that.

I have exactly the same defence andy and exactly the same issue.

        Currently on mustafi

        But now looking at cedric

He is 4.7m nailed with 2 doubles. I'd be willing to play him this weekend at West ham.

And the cash saving will be incredibly useful as it means I will then have enough to get Kane for 34 if I want....moves would be gros and auba to gudm and Kane.

        Views on cedric?

    How does this wildcard/plan look?

    De Gea Ryan
    Alonso Vert Smalling Morgan Lowton
    Salah Mahrez Son Willian Gross
    Auba Vardy Barnes
    1.6m ITB

    GW34: Gross/Auba ➡️ Gudmunsson/Kane

If I transfer in Lukaku instead of Kane in GW34, I'll upgrade Lukaku to Kane GW36 for free.

Please help me pick one, all options involve Auba to Kane in 34:

    A) Christenson, Smalling and Vardy

    B) Chilwell, Smalling and Lukaku (Son To Gudmundsson in 34)

    C) Chilwell, Christenson and Lukaku (Son to Lingard in 34)

Think I should be ok to get away with this. Won't be the best team you see on here but should be enough to take the leader in my ML.

    DDG (Ryan)
    Lowton, Tarkowski, Morgan, (Christensen, Vertonghen)
    Salah, Willian, Mahrez, Kenedy, (Son)
    Auba, Lukaku, Barnes

    BB34, FH35, TC37 £1.0m itb

GW34 Auba to Vardy, still leaves some wiggle room if I want Kane back without a hit...

I like it. Very similar except I've gone Alonso

Thanks Rash, appreciate the reply. I had planned on doing GW34 Auba and Christensen to Vardy and Alonso but I want to keep my options open for now with Kane on the horizon and that's what I like about this WC it gives me so much more flexibility than my GW31 team.

I'm thinking you went Alonso>Christensen? Great shout, nice move, but I'm a pauper so have to be a little more punty lol

          Ddg pope
          Alonso smalling lowton Mustafi mariappa
          Front 8 the same.

I have no FH and I plan to do pope to 3.9 in 36 to fund kaku to Kane

Wow a fellow Kenedy picker! Nice team, with flexibility and strategy in mind too!
I did tinker on Smalling (was in my team before WCing) but just too risky for me with Jones, Bailly and Rojo floating about. Still reckon he's favourite to start this GW but maybe a transfer waiting to happen.

Getting Kane is I feel will be a must at some point as those GW37 double fixtures might just be too good to ignore with a TC chip...

I've ignored smalling all season as I'm not is biggest fan but he's playing on merrit. Jones was awful before injury so I can't see him coming straight back in. I will be putting the TC on Kane in 37 for sure

                Fair play, true that.
I can't imagine the size of the sofa those who have used their TC in GW22 are gonna need come 37 😆

DFS will be spiking in profits 😆

Oh just seen you're benching son over Barnes? Is that more because Barnes is playing baggies?

Yeah purely that and I fancy Kenedy to get a return v Huddersfield too. Bit of a punt but worth the risk I think...

Worth going Mkhi over Son, with a transfer on Son in mind?

Is it crazy keeping Firmino on a WC, transfering in Vardy for DGW - or should I get Vardy now?

Worried he'll go crazy in those upcoming fixtures. Might be telling myself that just because the value tied up in him, though.

In the same boat mate thing is on the dgw firmino has an easy fixture too.

That sure complicate things. Can field a decent team even with the price difference between Firmino and Vardy - but the extra cash going Firmino > Vardy leaves me with some better options.

In the same boat. Still dont know what to do. My ML leader still have Firmino.

This is a factor here, too. It's very close between my team and a couple of others, and both have Firmino still.

Yeah but I saved at least 0.9 wildcarding then than if I were to do it for GW33

I've got free hit left and bench boost.

So I'm using my bench boost in gw34

Would it be best to use my free hit in gw35 or gw37? Ive wildcarded so can try plan a team for 35 or 37 and just free hit 35.
