Set-piece and penalty takers for final World Cup Fantasy matches

We are left with the same four teams for the final round of World Cup Fantasy matches, with two more fixtures making up Gameround 7.

That includes the third/fourth place play-off that Belgium and England will play in on Saturday.

So, for one last time, we’ve collated all the relevant set-piece data so Fantasy Football Scout members can work out which nations are the best to focus on for their transfers.

It still looks like England are the most likely to score from set-piece situations despite their exit from the tournament, while Croatia remain susceptible to balls into the box.

READ NEXT: Our transfer tips and stats for the final round of World Cup Fantasy matches

Our research includes the penalty and corner-takers for each country, based on who has taken them either in Russia or, in some cases, in qualification. If there is no number next to a player’s name it’s because they took at least one in qualifying and/or warm-up games but are yet to take one at the World Cup itself.

We’ve also calculated which teams concede the most fouls and attempts from set-plays too to help you work out which nations are the most likely to get set-pieces in the first place.

To clarify, the ‘Attempts from set plays’ section combines those who have shot from direct free-kicks or those who have latched onto the end of a corner.

The deadline for Gameround 7 is at 15:00 BST on Sarturday July 14, so make sure you sort your team in time.

World Cup Data

We’re delighted to offer World Cup data as an early addition to our regular season offering to help those playing Fantasy games over the summer.

We’ve secured Opta data, not only for the tournament itself, but also from the Qualifying Rounds for Europe and South America and for international friendlies involving the participating nations. This includes all the matches played right up to the tournament kick-off.

Just to stress, this World Cup offering comes packaged with the regular Fantasy Football Scout membership.

      Thoughts!

      Pick
      Young Coleman Mee
      Sane Salah Mahrez Walcott
      Zaha Firmino Wilson

      Speroni Diop Tompkins Stephens

      0.5itb

I will gamble on young as united cover in defence. Same for wilson. Wilson had a poor season and still scored as much as king. I could get wood instead of king to kick the season off. I would like aguero also..

Is anyone considering Sorloth (5.0) as a budget attacker?

He seemed very popular on these forums for the final few weeks of the season and came with an excellent pedigree.

Whilst that didn't necessarily transfer into points (I think he ultimately got injured), I'm surprised that he appears totally off the radar.

After he scored in preseason, he is in my radar. Was great in his previous club in Denmark, I feel Roy will give him more chances this season.

Think Tomkins and Cedric are good shouts - and Dunk and Duffy represent decent value too.

Doherty for Wolves is worth considering too. Decent attacking returns last year from a wingback position - and their manager comes with a history of defensive stability.

Yes they do - Douglas at 5.0 is an even better pick in my opinion. Worth considering if you can afford him.

Most number of assists in the championship last year (14).

Which teams in FPL are most likely to go 3 at the back and thus use the wingback system? I think this is a good starting point before picking our defences.

Southampton under Hughes adopted such a system. Chelsea, with a change of manager, may change their system. Marco Silva had very forward full backs, I think, when he managed Watford, he may use something similar for Everton.

I couldn't have miliv as a starter. Lukaku is a big no no for me, Auba and Aguero are pure quality in comparison! Don't think Bailly will be first choice, Smalling and Jones for me but it's hard to know hence why i went Valencia as united cover.

Going with a cheap front line as there's so much value there, Arnie, Zaha, Wood, King, Austen etc etc, what do you think? I always like cover from the top 6 hence the Alonso, Valencia and Ramsey picks. Alonso and Valencia offer defensive cover and some attaxking threat which i really like. Will monitor pre season and decide between Neves and Cairney?

    Ederson
    Alonso Valencia Robertson
    Salah(c) Eriksen Sane Ramsey Neves

I currently have a city and united defender (will decide based on pre season) and Robertson as my starting 3 at the back.

I've got Ward and Peltier to complete the back line and Cairney as a 4th mid.

Am I giving myself too much of a bench headache having Cairney and Ward rotating?

    Begovic

    Salah, Mane, Mahrez, D Silva,
    Arnautovic, Tosun

    Fabianski, Peltier, Stephens, Kamara
    (0 itb)

Going for highest value players because I'll most likely captain Salah every week. Could use Firmino instead of Mane in a 433 but this seems to have less flexibility because of the lack of forwards this year.

      1. T Money
        • 8 Years
        5 years, 9 months ago

I just can't see myself playing with 3 forwards this year. Most of last season I used 3 heavy hitters up front (kane, firmino, aguero, auba, morata, lukaku etc.), who didn't justify their price, mainly because I didn't captain them. Given that I'll captain Salah from the off this season I don't think the heavy hitters are worth it compared with the value that can be found in defence and midfield.

Nope, I see Liverpool and Man City smashing it again this year, and:
Arsenal and Chelsea - uncertainty over new management
Spurs - Tired from world cup
United - Far too defensive last season to justify the attackers prices

    3. Eden Wizard

Most teams play 1 striker so ultimately the pool of players will always be 1/5 * midfielders.

      5 years, 9 months ago

I certainly agree with your philosophy and spread of value.

I'm not sure how many of your first choice midfielders will start the first couple of game weeks so you might need more certain budget starters on your bench.

        1. Andy_Social
          • 11 Years
          5 years, 9 months ago

Well I do think City/Liverpool will be 1-2 next season and will try to triple up on both - not nec GW1 though. The problem for me is City's overabundant midfield. For that reason 2 of my City choices will be Ederson and Mendy. I think there will be too much rotation in midfield and for me the most secure is De Bruyne. I think Sane is good for GW1 but maybe not long term.

          1. T Money
            • 8 Years
            5 years, 9 months ago

Yeah I agree long term there will be a lot of rotation in city's midfield/forwards, especially now with Mahrez (although last year I think they still provided the best value/points despite the odd benching). Ederson and Mendy sounds good for security, but what if there are one/two injuries in attack? It would be a pain to make the transfers to get the nailed city attacker. Also, can't we be pretty sure of Silva, Sane, Mahrez starting the first couple while De Bruyne and Sterling will be recovering?

            1. Andy_Social
              • 11 Years
              5 years, 9 months ago

Yeah, maybe. I've got an ideal 15 in mind and a GW1 15 in mind. I'm sure there will be last-minute changes post Community Shield and as it becomes apparent who's ready. It's just too early to know at this time.

      I like it 😉
I have looked at something similar. I just don't fancy the strikers at the moment. Most due to the fact, that they need some rest after the WC. I will hand Salah the armband anyway.

      Current team:
      DDG
      Robertson - Bertrand - Holebas - Daniels
      Salah (C) - Sané - Mané - Martial
      King - Zaha

      (Begovic - Walcott - Coleman - Kamara)

I know my money is too spread out, but I kinda like that until I use my WC (then I can load up on pricy players and get a cheaper bench). The lineups the first few weeks will be wierd.

Even more than last year, I think we are going to have to assume rotation is happen - and not just City.

Paying more attention to my bench this year, and taking inevitable rotation on the chin. I think he should provide significant value, even with rotation.

Better pick city's most nailed players
For me, it's ederson + mendy + kdb(after he comes back)
        Currently on mahrez

Same here. I am tempted to go with him though and have a decent bench to cover the eventual rotation. I think he can have big scores even if playing 3/4

I'm most comfortable with 343 as a standard for me this season.
I may be the odd 352 or 442. I'm liking the fwd options

best ratio of chances created per minute last season and now with auba and laca to put them away, think he could be a good option

    Thoughts!

    Pick
    Young Coleman Mee
    Sane Salah Mahrez Walcott
    Zaha Firmino Wilson

    Speroni Diop Tompkins Stephens

    0.5itb

I will gamble on young as united cover in defence. Same for wilson. Wilson had a poor season and still scored as much as king. I could get wood instead of king to kick the season off. I would like aguero also..

What about Shaw? Rumours of him putting in the hours to get fit, and at 31 I can't see Young starting the season after being at the world cup to the end. One to watch through preseason I guess.

        Young is 33 now.
Shaw is in my team to start the season. As long as pre-season confirms he's at least got a chance.

Is Kamara actually going to be playing for Fulham?

They only seem to have a dozen players total and Kamara is the only forward?

We'll have to see. They seem to be bringing in a bucketload of players by the day at the moment though.

Was just looking at Mata at 6.5, and got me thinking.

What inter-premier league transfers do you want to see this summer, for purely FPL reasons?

Mata (6.5) and Fabregas (6.5) are my initial shouts. Both got more to give, can be leading men at the right club and dominate set pieces.

Both more than than likely to go abroad than move to another PL club.

Fabregas may have some involvement - new manager etc just need to see.
Mata seems to just get less and less time now.
I see him leaving also. He still wants regular 1st team football and he wont get it at united.

    A) Eriksen Peltier Kamara
    B) Redmond Mendy Wood

    rest of the team:

    Foster Fab
    Robertson Coleman Tomkins Cedric ___
    Salah Mané Mkhi Cairney ___
    Kun Tosun ___

    A gives a stronger 11 but B a strongest squad
