Introduction to the Article Type

With so many RMTs on site, we’re going to start collecting them in these RMT Community Articles.

To start, site regular and moderator Spencer has given us his team, and some explanations of his choices. Feel free to comment on his team.

This is also a place for you to post your team, and please respond to a few others while you’re at it!

Mods have been alerted, and will spend some time on these pages responding.

Let’s try to keep the main article pages free from RMTs!

Spencer’s RMT

Fabianski – Bettinelli

Mendy – Robertson – Luiz – Boly – Tomkins

Salah – Mahrez – Pedro – Deulofeu – Stephens

Aguero – Arnautovic – Zaha

Goalkeepers

  • 9.0 on goalkeepers.  Fabianski with FPL pedigree.  Unsure on Bettinelli, but rotation with Fabianski looks good.
  • First 10 games: CRY – BOU – BUR – WLV – eve – WAT – eve – bha – cda – BOU

Defence

  • Mendy/Robertson/Luiz/Boly/Tomkins
  • Most I’ve spent in defence from the start – I normally play just one big hitter and 4 rotating cheapies.
  • All defenders with potential for attacking points.
  • Mendy a risk worth taking, looked brilliant before his injury.
  • Luiz a risk, so will keep a close eye on the Community Shield.
  • Tomkins looks to be the best 4.5 for me.

Midfielders

  • Got to start with Salah.  Can always downgrade.
  • Mahrez was brilliant at Leicester.  Playing with better players at Man City, I can only see him getting better.  Another one to look out for in the Community Shield.
  • Pedro is a risk, but if he’s nailed he will get attacking points.
  • Watford fixtures look favourable.  Deulofeu looked grerat when on loan from Barcelona last season.
  • Stephens is my 4.5 bench player.

Forwards

  • Aguero is world class.  Possibly some doubts on whether he starts or not.  Keeping an eye on the Community shield.  Will swap to Aubameyang if there are doubts.
  • Arnautovic ended last season in spectacular fashion and this has continued into pre-season.  Made the mistake of not getting him in last time around.
  • Zaha also reclassified as a forward this season.  Does this mean more bonus points?  Doubts over who his strike partner will be at Crystal palace, but I see him returning points regardless. Will need to reconsider if he moves.

1.0 itb to use in an emergency.  eg upgrade Mahrez to Mane, or Deulofeu to Doucoure.

Conclusion

The Key here is flexibility.  Setting price brackets for positions and then finding the right players to fit in.  eg I don’t know if Pedro is the right 6.5 to have, but can easily switch to Jota, Richarlison, or whoever else.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Where have I gone wrong, and where have I gone right? What do you suggest I change?

      Id be looking at Sanchez and a 5.0. There arent many good options in midfield under 7.0 in my opinion, but Cairney and Costa have been touted as potential bargains for 5.0

    Ok, after much tinkering I have this........

    I will swap KDB to another city player for GW1 or 2 (after I have seen the CS) Also will review Luiz depending on CS

    Ederson - Stek

    Luiz - Robbo - Tomkins - Kabasele -Wan Biss

    Salah - De Bruyne - Rich - Jota - Kenedy

    Auba - Arnie - Zaha

    What do you guys think? Can I improve anywhere?

        Yeah its a concern, any thoughts on who you would change him to? He's only going to be benched anyway but I want someone with attacking threat who will actually play and I thought he seemed a good option in case of an auto sub.

      I don't think Cedric will start GW1 and seen today Saints have been linked with a new RB (Kevin Malcuit) so not sure what that means for him. I'd also be temped by Mata > Richarlison or Pedro. Otherwise I like it quite a lot!

      Looks good, if it was me, i'd be downgrading firmino for Arnie, and using the 2.5m to strengthen your midfield. Mahrez will be a rotation threat, and Mata isnt even guaranteed gametime, 2.5M is the difference between Mahrez and Mata, to Mane and any of Pogba, Silva, Ramsey or Mhki.

      I'm not sold on Mkhi to be honest. If Hudson starts even 1 or 2 games that's a money ball right there! I went for Tomkins over Cedric, more attacking for a better team and he's had a preseason.

      Auba/Aguero, Zaha and Arnie seems to be the template front 3. Im not sold on Zaha, this transfer talk could get to his head, have you considered downgrading him to King to free up 0.5? I have mhki in my side aswell, im debating upgrading him to Ramsey, defence looks good, same as mine bar Cedric - Dunk.

      Like the Eriksen pick, he's integral to the team and v consistent. I'm not 100% on Bailly tbh and wary of Bednarek.

      I like it. One thing to note is that Ryan will be out of action in Jan as in the Asia Cup with Australia. Also saw on Reddit that Ederson's wife/girlfriend is expecting in Jan! So might want to watch out for that.

        Cheers, Luiz could be Bellerin a Burnley defender, Coleman etc. I’ve tried to be fairly segmented with my price points to allow flexibility

      Good side. I'd avoid tge promoted sides in attack personally. Wealth of prem-experienced alternatives to Jota. Like the Sanchez pick. If he scores two v Leicester at home, people will struggle to get him in.

    I was keen to avoid Zaha as my third striker because I'm trying to avoid being too template but I'm not sure I can see any alternatives.
    Everton are having a poor preseason, which raises questions around Tosun. Chris Wood looks quite good but Burnley are hardly likely to haul. Josh king has only two goals in preseason, just like Tosun. Already have Arnie. Mitrovic hasn't convinced at PL level, so that leaves me at either Zaha or playing two up front.

      So it’s 352 or 343

      Only time will tell who’ll do better:

      A) Zaha + 4.5 mid OTB or
      B) 4.5 forward OTB + 7.0 mid?
      C) 4.5 forward OTB + 6.5 mid and 0.5itb

      I’ve avoided A. I don’t see him out performing last year. Wouldn’t be surprised if he did.

          I’ve had a few. I’m not seeing what isn't there. Maybe I’m just happy to see someone not starting with a 4.5 player.

          That said, I don’t think anyone cares about covering Spurs attack in the first few weeks.

          We can all switch Mane to Sane or PEA to Aguero. I don’t care about that.

          I forgot the bench! Ward, Hudson-Odoi, 4m gk, Bis-W. Eden, thanks for your comment - I think coverage is a myth. This is why I've gone double Liverpool. I would have Kun and Dilva were it not for rotation risk. And I have Davies, who may as well be a Spurs attack. Same for Mendy!

              But that’s with Mahrez at Leicester. So assuming Kdb is nailed you’d have to divide sterling and sane points out between those three giving 408/3 = 136 per player

      He was nailed in my squad but Everton have been poor defensively in preseason, and his last good season was about 6 years ago.

      5.5 just seems too much for a player not on any set pieces or anything.

        Wood just got injured. Can't be arsed faffing around with Wood v Vokes v Barnes v Europa League. He's such a good pick if fit though.

      Looks good. If Mahrez starts CS I would keep. To fund Mane could downgrade PVA to Tomkins and you would have .5 to improve bench. Gunarsson to Cairney or Hughes

      Only issues I see are not being able to get a Pool attacker in if Mane or Firmino go mental. Mendy might not be nailed/fit so monitor and downgrade to PVA if that's the case.

        Thanks. Actually if Mendy not playing that would allow me to go Ederson over Alisson and free up space for another Liverpool attacker down the line. Ederson PVA and Mane would be option to replace Alisson Mendy and Mahrez.

    ATTENTION all Ederson owners: I assume this will be your set and forget defensive City pick, and that you plan on having two offensive City mids/forwards?

    So what do you do if Mendy starts off on flyer, or Stones continues his WC goalscoring form? Would require major surgery to do a City GK --> City def.

        No plan. I fancy Auba after gw2, but im hoping we learn that auba and laca are both secured starts, then I can swap firm with laca.

        Everyone from City is a rotationrisk IMO. Think ill try and get KDB for Silva/Mahrez around gw4

      Problem here is, Trippier and Vardy probably wont start after the world cup. Shaqiri might just be an impact sub.

      I like the Gross pick, and Luiz is the best defence pick atm imo
