Captains

Captain Sensible – No stand-out candidate for Double Gameweek 34

With no standout favourite in the captaincy debate for Double Gameweek 34, Fantasy managers have been handed an opportunity for sizeable green arrows.

The lack of an obvious option to turn to in the wake of Harry Kane‘s (£12.6m) injury, it means that his support will be split among other candidates.

In order to find the best one for this latest Double Gameweek, we have undertaken some extensive research for the latest Captain Sensible article.

Captain Poll

Because of that injury to Kane, we rest the captain poll half-way through the week in the build-up to Double Gameweek 34. We took that decision because at the time of his knock, the Tottenham forward was enjoying a healthy lead, which he would be unlikely to follow through on with him not expected to play against Huddersfield.

We recorded the results at the time of the reset so that we could document what Kane’s injury had done to the captaincy debate.

The captain poll results before Kane’s injury

As you can see from the picture above, Kane was absolutely running away with the captain poll before he got injured. He was enjoying a 49.95% share of the vote as he was expected to wreak havoc against a recently relegated Huddersfield side. His backing was probably so big because he was the least likely attacking Spurs player not to be rotated after Champions League action.

In second place was Shane Duffy (£4.7m) but he was a long way off with just 14.38% of the vote. The support for him obviously stemming from Brighton’s Double Gameweek. It pits them against Bournemouth and Cardiff at home, two sides that have struggled on their travels this year.

After his 16-point haul against Huddersfield in Blank Gameweek 33, Jamie Vardy (£9.2m) was in third place on 5.97% backing, just ahead of Brighton forward Glenn Murray (£6.3m) on 5.11%.

Captain poll results after Kane’s injury

As you can see from the new results, it would appear that Son Heung-min (£8.6m) has soaked up a lot of the support for Kane, but not all of it. He is the new poll leader but with a much smaller clearance between him and Duffy.

The South Korean currently has 32% of the votes, while the Brighton man has risen from 14.3% to 20.6%.

Vardy has also benefitted from Kane’s injury, jumping from 5.97% support to 11.3%, but is still ranked third right now. Murray’s rise has been even smaller, with an increase from 5.11% to 5.98%.

The last remains of Kane’s support appear to have moved to Sergio Aguero (£11.7m) and Christian Eriksen (£9.2m), who currently have the backing of 4.8% and 3.95%.

    Ryan

    Duffy Robbo Digne

    Salah Hazard Pogba McNeill

    Vardy Jimmy Wilson

    Subs Dubravka TAA Almiron AWB

My one FT was to bring in Duffy so any more changes will cost me points.

I am 40 odd points clear in ML but he will play WC this week and BB following week. I will play BB same week as him.

Worry is he will go heavy on City and probably Spurs.

Question is should I hold tight or take a hit?

    All responses very welcome. Thanks

I would hold tight and see who he picks. You can then decide if you want to take hits

BEWARE WATFORD ASSETS! Consider the curse of the non-top six Cup finalists:
Watford look like they have some decent fixtures coming up... but history tells us that non-top six sides traditionally see an alarming dip in league form as they gear up for the Final. Look at how these five finalists got on after winning their semi-final:

Palace, 2016 – lost three of their last four, with a 4-1 beating at Southampton in GW37.
Villa, 2015 – lost three of their last five including the last two, with a 6-1 thrashing at Southampton in GW37.
Hull, 2014 – got one point from five games after the semi-final and conceded 13 goals in 5 games.
Wigan, 2013 – one win in seven after the semis saw them relegated, with defeats shipping seven goals either side of the final itself (which took place before GW37).
Portsmouth, 2010 – won only one in five league games after the semi-final.

Just, you know, putting it out there...

After the last DGW not going so well, it’s a great that the looming one is destined to be amazing and will rocket me up the ranks. Such a relief. What could possibly go wrong.

Nothing really except blanks, cards, own goals, conceding goals, reduced play time and injuries.
      So it will be okay

    My Team (-4 Point Hit)

    Etheridge
    Duffy-Ake-Van Dijk
    Mane-Hazard-Maddison-Pogba
    Jiminez-Rashford-Murray(c)

    Patricio - Jorginho - Schar - Rice

Any thoughts on another player? I have 6 million in bank, but I want to keep this to building a stronger team next gameweek.

    Start Schar Over Ake?

Used my wildcard and it was terrible with 36 point

    Ryan
    Dunk Duffy(c) laporte
    Son eriksen sterling mane
    Deeney aguero jiminez
    Bench: TAA valery delefeou foster

So i was planning to use my bench boost but now i am not quite sure about using it.

Valery is doubtful to play, delefeou is still yellow flagged, deeney is red carded. So 1 is out, 2 are doubtful, only left is foster. I can leave ryan on bench as i already have 2 other brighton defenders

So probably i can just play
    Foster
    Laporte duffy TAA
    Mane son eriksen delefeou sterling
    Aguero jiminez
    Bench: ryan dunk deeney valery

And don’t use bb at all now and probably use it next week with 2 FT.

    What do you guys think?
