FPL

The best FPL goalkeepers for a Gameweek 28 Wildcard

With Double Gameweeks 28 and 29 on the horizon, many Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers intend to use their second Wildcard chip over the coming days.

It’s a chance to aggressively attack the Double Gameweeks yet have the squad depth to survive Blank Gameweek 30, if a Free Hit can’t be used.

Below, we look at some of the better goalkeeper options for the final stretch of the season – relevant to both Wildcard activations and normal weekly free transfers.

All stats and graphics included in this piece are taken from our Premium Members Area.

Jose Sa

 1

The game’s joint-highest scoring stopper, Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Jose Sa (£5.3m) has been a fantastic replacement for Rui Patricio. When Wolves went through a binary period whereby every score between Gameweeks 12 and 21 were either 1-0 or 0-0, their defence kept six clean sheets out of a possible eight.

However, just as FPL managers started to commit to their Molineux asset, this form slipped and only one clean sheet has been kept in the six matches since.

No team has conceded fewer than Wolves over the past 16 Gameweeks yet their expected goals conceded (xGC) tally is vastly higher, ranking in the worser half for both this and shots conceded. A huge reason for this overachievement has been the 56 saves from Sa, bringing in 14 save points and eight bonuses.

A promising Double Gameweek at home to both Crystal Palace and goal-shy Watford is a great way for Wolves’ back line to get back on track. Five of their next six fixtures have the best possible ‘Fixture Difficulty Rating’ score.

Aaron Ramsdale

Xhaka and Moura recalled as Ramsdale starts again

Arsenal’s number one is still popular and for good reason – the Gunners have established themselves as a strong, budget-friendly defensive side. Only Ederson (£6.1m) and Alisson (£6.0m) have kept more clean sheets than Aaron Ramsdale‘s (£5.1m) 11, with Arsenal never going more than two games without one since his Gameweek 4 debut.

Five were kept in the seven matches between Gameweeks 16 and 24 but a goal was conceded in their last two against Brentford and Wolves. Therefore, going by statistics, Arsenal are due another one at the weekend against Watford.

Beyond that, Ramsdale has a Double Gameweek 29 against Leicester City (h) and Liverpool (h), whilst they are currently one of only six teams to definitely have a Gameweek 30 outing, as both they and Aston Villa are already out of the FA Cup.

Remaining fixtures are steady, so Ramsdale offers both the safety of having Arsenal defensive coverage and the reliability of having the optimum situation over Gameweeks 29 and 30.

Currently looking at a -12 to BB and get rid of Bruno - Bowen - Edouard - Idah

Pretty set on the two forwards to bring in as Adams and Jimenez, but a little bit unsure on the midfielders as I'm prepping for GW30 w/o FH. Here are the four im thinking:

Raphinha - pretty set on bringing him in. Hopefully new manager realizes Raph is the key to keeping Leeds from the drop
JWP - nice double and if West Ham beats Southampton in the FA cup, I think he's a lock to come in too
Maddison - good fixture this week and in GW30. if Southampton doesnt get the GW30 fixture might just get Madders
Willock - two doubles, but unlikely GW30 fixture. If Stoke beats Palace somehow I think I'd be tempted

    Am I missing anyone?

I like the list of mids - all of them are under consideration for me too.
      I'm also looking at a -12 for a BB.
      Webster > Rudiger/KWP
      Bowen > Ramsey
      Foden > JWP/Willock/Mount
      Idah > Adams/Broja

Different combinations all in play - hope to get 2/4 right at least.

I'm jealous you have room to get in a Chelsea defender. I have a backline of TAA Robbo Cancelo White RAN and cant seem to justify any of them out for a hit to Rudiger. I think Rudi will pay off massively

The midfielders and forward slots are the key to gaining rank rn imo

I'd prefer Webster wasn't injured - but there's an avenue for me at least.
          I have Robbo, TAA, Tierney & Ait-Nouri
No Cancelo...that will hurt at times for sure.

I think there’s always rotation, but RAN is de facto first choice, so will play more often than not. Also not keen on 4 big hitters on defence atm with TAA Robbo Cancelo already in my team

Planning to BB28..currently have 8 doublers + 7 sgw players (who dbl in 29) but can't figure out best way to get Chelsea cover

    Dubravska --- Ramsdale
Taa Robbo Saiss --- Kilman Digne
Salah Son Raph JWP --- Saka
    Broja Jimmy -- Laca

A: Save FT and avoid chelsea
    B: Robbo >> Rudi...back to Robbo in 29
    C: Robbo + Saka >> Rudi + Coutinho (-4)...

Any love for Weghorst if he ends up playing in 30? On a WC but can bench him in 28 (with 4 doubling mids + Salah), play vs Brentford in 29 and hopefully a game in 30 as well with Norwich to follow a benching in 31. Think he offers value and don't really fancy Jiminez who seems to be the alternative at a similar price point.

Current team a mess and losing value (see above) - have just enough money to do this WC team:

    Sa
    Cancelo TAA Schar Rudi
    Salah Jota Willock Coutinho
    Kane Adams
    Bench: Foster Ramsey Broja White

Pushing button now and review as this weeks FA Cup games are played.(re GW 30)

    Any final suggestions?

If set on WC, keep an eye on prices and remove players that you don't want and dropping price. Also bring in players that are rising.

How sure are we, if we are at all, that James starts both games in the double for Chelsea? So enticing but feel I may just go riskless and go Rudi..

Injuries could push James to start both games.

Christensen, Ziyech and Azpi (may have came off injured in the final) all could be injured.

On the injury front, Hakim Ziyech (£7.3m) failed to make the squad for today’s match, along with Andreas Christensen (£4.6m) who has an issue with his achilles. Elsewhere, Cesar Azpilicueta (£5.6m) was forced off shortly before the hour mark with an injury

I would not be confident. He's just back from an injury that kept him out for a fair while. Even if Azpilicueta is out for a bit, CHO is still there and Tuchel has shown he's willing to try other options in a variety of positions. They've missed James so he won't want to rush him I'm sure

Yeah must admit that's the way I'm leaning. Wouldn't be so bad but I'm pretty sure Chelsea will get 2 clean sheets so I'm waving by to 6 points if I do go James over Rudi, that's all.
