Following Friday’s round of player price reveals for the new Fantasy Premier League (FPL) season, there was more activity on Saturday.

READ MORE: Every Fantasy Premier League player price revealed so far

Liverpool were first up this morning, with Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson among the Reds priced up.

Manchester United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Aston Villa and Fulham then followed in the afternoon.

KEY TALKING POINTS

LIVERPOOL

Mohamed Salah will set FPL managers back £13.0m for 2022/23. That is the Egyptian’s highest starting price since 2018/19, the season that followed his record-breaking, 303-point debut campaign at Anfield. He did reach the heights of £13.3m in the spring of this year, however.

Salah is also still a midfielder, the most emphatic confirmation yet that we’re not about to see FPL Towers radically rejig the positional classifications for the new season.

Luis Diaz (£8.0m) is £5.0m cheaper than his teammate, while Diogo Jota and new signing Darwin Nunez both come in at £9.0m. Jota is now a forward after spending much of last season playing through the middle of Jurgen Klopp’s 4-3-3 system. By our calculations, Jota would have ended up on 159 points had he been reclassified last season – enough to finish as the joint-second highest-scoring forward alongside Cristiano Ronaldo. The arrival of Nunez gives him even more competition up top, of course.

There is no price rise for Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) despite his 208-point campaign, with that total falling just short of the all-time Fantasy Premier League record for a defender.

Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) and Virgil van Dijk (£6.5m) remain steady at their 2021/22 starting prices, too, while Alisson surprisingly drops to £5.5m despite finishing as FPL’s highest-scoring goalkeeper – a move that may well challenge many of our preconceived ideas about opting for a £4.5m budget shot-stopper. Indeed, the best-performing possible ‘ghost squad’ of 2021/22 (that we’ve seen, anyway) had a £5.5m-rated goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris, between the posts.

There’ll be much less interest in the other three Liverpool players priced up today, with Harvey Elliott (£5.0m) and Thiago Alcantara (£5.5m) Fantasy footnotes. New signing Calvin Ramsay is the first £4.0m-rated defender we’ve seen so far, matching what Kostas Tsimikas was a year ago. Ramsay is a back-up at right-back and was a prolific chance creator in his breakthrough year at Aberdeen but it’ll take a serious Alexander-Arnold injury for him to enter our thoughts and even then, Klopp might still opt for Joe Gomez or James Milner initially given that Ramsay is still only 18 years old.

MANCHESTER UNITED

Manchester United’s miserable 2021/22 has seen many of their players subsequently tumble in price.

Cristiano Ronaldo (£10.5m) and Bruno Fernandes (£10.0m) have both dropped £2.0m from where they entered the game last season, potentially making them affordable third premium options for the upcoming campaign if Erik ten Hag can perform miracles and rejuvenate an ageing, stale squad – and that’s a big ‘if’.

Ronaldo was, it should be stressed, the second-highest-scoring FPL forward of 2021/22, finding the back of the net on 18 occasions as United slumped to a sixth-place finish.

Fernandes was a huge disappointment last season but racked up more points than even Salah in 2020/21, so any signs of recovery under ten Hag could present us with a few bargains in FPL.

Jadon Sancho (£7.5m) has also dropped by the same margin as his two aforementioned teammates and experiencing an even bigger price plunge is Marcus Rashford (£6.5m), who was £9.5m before last season got underway. Rashford flopped in the last 12 months but he registered a combined 47 attacking returns over his previous two campaigns, so there is some now-dormant Fantasy pedigree there.

Anthony Elanga (£5.0m) hasn’t changed in price, meanwhile, despite 2021/22 being his breakthrough year at United. Of the Red Devils’ squad, only Fernandes, David de Gea and Diogo Dalot started more league matches than the young Swede from Gameweek 22 onwards.

In defence, Luke Shaw (£5.0m), Raphael Varane (£5.0m) and David de Gea (£5.0m) drop half a million after a dismal campaign for United’s backline in which they kept more clean sheets (eight) than just four other teams.

Alex Telles (£5.0m), Fred (£5.5m) and Donny van de Beek (£5.5m) round off the United price reveals.

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS

There aren’t too many eyebrow-raisers with the Wolverhampton Wanderers price reveals.

Raul Jimenez (£7.0m) drops half a million after an underwhelming season in which he scored on just six occasions, while Jose Sa holds steady at £5.0m after an impressive debut Premier League campaign in which his heroics helped Wolves to 11 clean sheets.

Bruno Lage’s side sit top of our Season Ticker for fixture difficulty in the opening six Gameweeks, although they finished 2021/22 in dismal form.

There are a couple of potential bargains for that early-season run: Jonny comes in at £4.5m, while Pedro Neto is down to a cut-price £5.5m after an injury-affected campaign.

Neto was sidelined for the first six months of 2021/22, being gradually reintegrated into Lage’s first-team squad and making five starts before the season’s close. He was also effectively playing up front in a strike partnership towards the tail-end of the season, so he is very much one for the watchlist after delivering 13 attacking returns in 2020/21.

The versatile Jonny meanwhile scored twice after his own long lay-off and would appear set to start 2022/23 at right wing-back with Nelson Semedo (£5.0m) looking unlikely to be fit for the beginning of August.

Elsewhere, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Max Kilman also stay at £4.5m but Conor Coady joins Semedo at £5.0m after an impressive 2021/22 in which he finished as the 12th-highest-scoring defender in FPL.

Hwang Hee-chan has been reclassified as a midfielder and is listed at £6.0m, with Daniel Podence (£5.5m) and Ruben Neves (£5.5m) unchanged from where they were a year ago.

ASTON VILLA

The pricing is probably just about on the generous side of ‘expected’ at Villa, too.

Matty Cash, the top-scoring FPL defender outside of the big-six clubs last season, certainly stands out at £5.0m.

Cash delivered seven attacking returns and 13 clean sheets from the same starting price in 2021/22, starting every single Premier League game for the Villans. The hope will be that, with centre-half Diego Carlos (£5.0m) and defensive midfielder Boubacar Kamara (£5.0m) added to the squad, Villa can improve further when it comes shut-outs in 2021/22.

Lucas Digne (£5.0m), that most tempting but frequently underwhelming of FPL assets, and Emi Martinez (£5.0m) are the same price as Cash.

Ollie Watkins, the club’s top goalscorer in the last two seasons, is Villa’s highest priced asset at £7.5m, exactly what he was 12 months ago. Danny Ings (£7.0m) and Philippe Coutinho (£7.0m) come in half a million cheaper, with the Brazilian’s run of 10 successive blanks between Gameweeks 29 and 37 no doubt helping keep his price down.

Jacob Ramsey is no longer the bargain-bin option he was last season, meanwhile, with his breakthrough campaign resulting in a rise to £5.5m.

Midfielders John McGinn (£5.5m) and Emi Buendía (£6.0m) were the other two Villa players priced up today.

FULHAM

Aleksandar Mitrovic was the headline-grabber from Fulham’s crop of price reveals, with a £6.5m tag about what was expected.

The Serb hasn’t yet fully convinced at Premier League level but he plundered a record-breaking 43 goals in the Championship last season and this Marco Silva incarnation of the Cottagers is considerably more attacking than the side managed by Scott Parker in 2020/21.

Harry Wilson was another who shone in the English second tier in 2020/21, delivering 29 attacking returns in 41 league appearances. The set-piece specialist, who last popped up in FPL while at Bournemouth in 2019/20, assisted more goals than any other player in the Championship last season and re-enters the game at £6.0m.

The winger who mostly operated on the opposite flank to Wilson, Neeskens Kebano, gets a £5.5m listing. He wasn’t quite as secure a starter as his fellow wide-man, with nine of his 40 run-outs coming as a substitute. He also delivered only half of what Wilson did in terms of attacking returns, registering nine goals and six assists.

There’s probably not too much Fantasy interest elsewhere, with a quartet of defensive assets – Tim Ream, Tosin Adarabioyo, Kenny Tete and goalkeeper Marek Rodak – all priced up at £4.5m. The west London side were only joint-sixth for clean sheets in the Championship last season although did lead the way for fewest expected goals conceded (xGC). Still, they’re seen as a more front-foot team and there aren’t high hopes for their defensive options in FPL this season.

Rodrigo Muniz (£5.5m), Tom Cairney (£5.0m), Bobby Decordova-Reid (£5.5m) and Ivan Cavaleiro (£5.0m) weren’t even nailed starters at Championship level, meanwhile, so will be irrelevant unless they have an unexpectedly barnstorming pre-season.

Someone said they’d cracked the code (based upon league positions apparently).
If that’s the case, tomorrow will be:
Chelsea, West Ham, Newcastle, Southampton and Bournemouth
        (In that order)
        Then Monday will be:
Spurs, Leicester, Palace, Everton and Forest.

But please note, this is not a prediction by me, just someone who said they’d cracked the pattern (and successfully predicted Fulham).

So… if I’ve understood it correctly… (and they switched City/Arsenal so as not to lead with the most wanted team), they’ve based it on last season’s league positions (with promoted teams taking up 18,19,20)
            Thus far they’ve gone:

            Friday: 1st 5th 9th 13th 17th
            Saturday: 2nd 6th 10th 14th 18th

Right you are then. As a matter of fact, I've lost all my Spurs assets from my latest draft. In fact, just one player to go (Chilwell).

            Kulu is my only Spur.
Still intrigued to see Kane/Son’s price though.

And yes, if Chilly/James come in at 5.5 it becomes really tricky to pick!!!

I think James could be 6 with Chilwell at 5.5

But given how much James was rotated/injured, he could be 5.5

Both of course. But if it has to be one, City fixtures may make it too hard to ignore Haaland. I'm going that way for sure because it will enable me to downgrade to any forward I want if necessary (I only want one playing forward to spend funds more efficiently in other positions), but will be hard to upgrade to Haaland if necessary later

Because Baines and Vidic were terrible value at 8

It seems that in the past 10 years they've set the cap/ceiling for defenders to 7.5 rather than that previous 8

This is where I’m currently at, some thoughts for the price points but only included names which are pretty nailed at this point:

    5.0-4.0
    Trent - Cancelo - 5.0 - 4.5 - 4.5
    Salah - 8.0 - 8.0 - 5.5
    Haaland - 4.5

With a 7.0 and 4.5 between mid and fwd to be decided leaving 0.5 ITB to find early bandwagons

Foreseeable things in preseason that could alter this structure:

James or Chilwell being surprisingly cheap
Rashford becoming a clear ETH mainstay
      Injuries

4 premium defenders just leave you too fragile elsewhere.

With so many 7-8m midfield choices - neither of these midfields will be able to compete

But some very good midfield options will appear - they always do and your only realistic route to getting them is to downgrade your defence, so it’s 2 transfers immediately waiting to happen.

You have also locked yourself out of Liverpool attack so again not leaving yourself any flexibility.

My thinking was Benrahma is a 6.5 already. If that first back up striker becomes another 4.5 I can easily turn Benrahma into a 7.5M midfielder.

Saka is an easy sideways if necessary and the potential rotation at Liverpool is leaving me not to fussed about picking up a Liverpool striker when I think I have the three best value for money players in that team

I mean option 2 looks a lot better than option 1 - although there are much better options than Benrahma for my money at that price.

I think you are just locking yourself out of a lot of players - city / Liverpool attackers and strikers predominantly.

Diaz is not a cover for Salah really at all though.

In many ways given he’s likely EO against Fulham - it almost doesn’t matter if you think he’s a waste it’s just too much of a risk to be worth the punt.

Been like that for the past two seasons at least from my memory. If you're referring to the bonus points system that decide who then get the bonus points (I argued part way through the season why midfielders assists are weighted more in comparison to other positions on the pitch)

Not seeing a lot of love for Son in any drafts. Admittedly tough to fit in three premiums, but Haaland is going to have to hit around 26g 8a to get close to Son’s numbers in the last two seasons. Probably can’t afford to start without him but is the Prem still a number 9’s league?

    Raya
    TAA Cancelo Perisic(5.5?) Cash Gabriel
    Son(11.5?) Salah Wissa Neto
    Haaland

    4 4.5 Undav 4.5

Terrible bench but adjustments are possible (Robbo, Tomiyasu, 4.5 def). Interesting to play around and wonder if Son might be cheaper if they are watching the drafts.

Agree a very good first season would be 25g 5a say from 30 starts. And that would be roughly 100+15+60+25 for goals/assists/appearances/baps. So still some way off Son/Salah numbers. Far from saying avoid, but interesting discussion point.

The argument with Haaland against Bournemouth GW2 is a bit like Salah against Fulham GW1 - their EO is going to be so high against a newly promoted team it’s just not worth the risk. Unless you are thinking of having KDB in instead, that’s an option but not one I’d be looking at

It's almost a shame that City have great fixtures after GW1 for those of us that like to see how any new acquisition performs in the FPL before quickly jumping on the bandwagon (like BrunoF and Kulusevski) or laughing from the sidelines (Werner etc)

Yeah I get that - in my mind there’s a whole season to chase differentials - given the fixtures and how highly owned they will be I think:

              Trent
              Cancelo
              Salah
              Haaland

are near must haves for GW1 with the added bonus that if it doesn’t work out they free up a huge amount of a budget for future transfers with more info.

Ah it was the third option I should have listed Canceloless …

We have similar drafts but I’ve sacrificed a 8m mid down to 5.5m to giving my a 5m gk, Cancelo and a rotating 4.5m 5th defender

Although I could go Cancelo and Neto

Don’t think this shows a fat lot to be fair. These stats show me Saka consistency and that Mount was a better performer then Diaz. Not saying I’m not picking him just these stats would not be what makes him a must pick

I will just take the top 3 or 4 mpgi

Anyway the point was 4g and 3a in 957 is excellent at 8m

So I should get Mount and Kulusevski mids and be free to choose Robertson as my 3rd Liverpool player instead of Diaz.

I would go with all 3

I'll struggle fitting in two £8M mids with my current structure, let alone three, but thanks for the analysis.

      Thanks!
Curious to see Mane's stats? Him priced at
12.0 last season was one of the biggest jokes.

This puts me off him tbh. Kulu and Mount’s returns per minute better and over more minutes.

Same feel I overlooked Mount, hope he comes in at 8

I still think regardless of the stats Diaz is the best footballer on that list. Also playing in the best team (barring Foden arguably). I think FPL have done great with the pricing here

Yep love him, have in a team at some point every season, he won't be I start with though, but having 3 8m gives the option to get him, thanks for adding him

VVD for £2.5m less, easy decision.

Don’t know where you’re getting your stats from. FPL says the following:

      Saka 11g 9a, so 149

      Kulu 5g 9a so 90

      Mount 11g 11am 107

      Foden 9g 6a so 132

As for Diaz, albeit he’s likely a good option, the sample size of 13 GWs (excluding the ones where Liverpool had no fixture) or 957 mins is very small. Wissa’s return with 7g 2a in 1260 mins last season is actually more favourable.

But don’t come on here posting stats that you’ve made up!

Just seen some of the new FPL prices, can someone explain why TAA is the same price he started at last season? Yet another lock for everyone in GW1 zzzzz

When you look at points total relative to other premium defenders it kinda makes sense. 8m could have been justified but 7.5m is fine.

It’s fine that he will be 60% owned and his points irrelevant for the entire season, just like last?

That’s not really my point. His points total last year doesn’t warrant being more than £1m more than Cancelo or Robbo or £2m than Dias etc as I say I think £8m was justified but how much difference would that £0.5m have really paid. If he was more than £8m we would all just own Robbo instead and you’d have the same complaint …

    Raya
    TAA, Cancelo, James, Cash, Jonny
    Salah, Saka, Coutinho, Neto
    Haaland

    4.0, KDH, Johnson/Awoniyi, 4.5

Did a 5-4-1 draft and decided I liked it.

Roughly 0.5 ITB I think… hopefully the rest of the prices clarify that soon! I’m happy with a slightly stronger bench initially but will see if I can move funds into the eleven if there’s a player I want.

Do you think Sanchez/any 4.5 and Diaz outscores ederson and Martinelli?

If so a slight tweak to my earlier team gives you

    Sanchez/4.0
    Cash Cancelo taa chilwell tomiyasou
    Salah Diaz Saka Madderson/Kulu
    Haaland

Think getting 3 options at 8m in the middle gives lots of cover, much to ponder! Oh it’s fun to tinker again. Just a bit of a fun before somebody else comments asking what’s the point.

I’d say yes but also perhaps more importantly I expect one of the city midfield to emerge as the best value pick anc ederson locks you out of them

Good point also, wasn’t sold on any but if I’m covering 3 8m mids likely to be sooner rather than later I get one. Thanks
