  1. West Bromwich Albion's defence assessed ahead of FPL return in 2020/21 1 day, 22 hours ago

Wolves have a lot of merit especially if they are not in Europe next season. With rest between games their press and possession game should lead to a decent amount of cs. I think there may be value in Brighton defence too if they get a bit luckier with injuries next season, crystal Palace as well should they have a decent off season and a bit better luck with injuries also. » Read

Excellent article red, not a whole lot of interest in this particularly weak group of clubs that have got promoted this year but fixtures and prices might change that slightly. Mitro has potential depending on favourable run of fixtures, potentially Leeds def depending on reinforcements, price and favourable rotation » Read

Used to be a bit of research, a fixture ticket and some excel stats analysis gave you a big advantage and top 10k was very achievable but these days anywhere inside 50k is probably the equivalent. The chips really haven't helped either as the luck factor jumps » Read

  5. United set to face fragile Leicester defence ripped apart by Kane and Spurs 21 days, 12 hours ago

Excellent comments, that was more or less what I was thinking with the perils of going for big defenders and having the suck on your rank for ages if they are not getting the returns you predict them to get. This season has been brutal from a big teams defenders point of view even with all the help from var chalking off goals for spurious handballs and offsides. I guess thats the randomness of the thing though, next season we could have several big defenders on 150+ points. We will likely have Jose defenders 5.5m or less next season after spurs poor performance this season, same for arsenal, united, chelsea and city (to an extent) so could be great value without having to go big big at the back. Interesting next season ahead me thinks. » Read

Interesting comment re pool defenders, I was on the verge of selling VVD before fabinho injury then I looked at pools cs while fabinho was out last season and decided I'd hold on and see how they go without him again. Sure enough a string of cs followed then fabinho got back in the team and the cs dried up again. Not sure if its just coincidence but its happened in two seasons now. So basically if fabinho is fit I won't be doubling on pool defence next season. » Read

Thats not strictly true though as you have to have 3 midfielders at least. You are firstly comparing defenders to other defenders so how much extra points will you get from your defender spot over the viable cheaper 4.5m/5m alternative and then you fill out the rest of your team. Once you have all the slots filled you can question whether its worth putting in another exp defender and playing one less cheaper midfielder. There are lots of exp defenders who haven't scored as well as mid priced midfielders too and if you are sitting on a big priced def from a team who aren't getting cs it can be very draining on your rank. » Read

Red is excellent to be fair, I love posts where someone backs up their hypothesis with some numbers. Obviously numbers don't tell the whole story and can often be misleading due to context etc but at least its not one of those "eye test" comments which never sit well with me, not many Alex Fergusons on here! » Read

There are still some really knowledgeable and decent posters on here its just hard to sort the wheat from the chaff with all the should I go with kdb or sterling type comments. These posters who never add anything but take as much information as they can. Used to be a great community here of people who offered genuine insights into the game and there are still some posters who do that but as I say it can be hard to find them. » Read

Once upon a time there were loads of discussions like this on here but then it got really busy and they used to get lost. Then Mark and his team made a hot topic section so that interesting discussions could be picked up and added to. Unfortunately for some reason the mods are just filling up the hot topics with stuff they want to discuss now which is mostly hardly worth talking about. I've flagged a few posts over the past while but they ignore them for some reason which means I hardly ever come on here anymore. Thanks for the great post » Read

The value of forwards has always been questioned but in seasons like this one when the premium forwards almost all fail to beat 200pts then value is the way to go. The thing with forwards is intuitively I think they are more fixture dependant so they can't hit massive ppg over a kind run of fixtures and become serious cap options for those runs. Even if you don't cap them at least if you have them it doesn't damage your rank massively. Also there are loads of premium defenders that didn't score well for no apparent reason, Chelsea, Spurs, utd, Leicester went on a miserable run between gw16 and gw28. It can be much harder to predict when defenders will score their points. Hence the investment in attacking defenders and hoping for cs » Read
