I started the season with 4 premium defenders (TAA, Robbo, Zinchenko and Coleman). The Alison injury followed up by watching Liverpool play Saints (Saints season ticket holder here) convinces me to WC after GW 2 and go cheap at the back and pump funds into my front eight. The Laporte injury reaffirmed my thinking. IMO Liverpool and City are the only reliable defences in the PL and both have been compromised. This game is about responding quickly to changes and I felt I made the right move. I have a front eight of Salah, Sterling, KDB, Mount, Cantwell, Firmino, Rashford and Pukki. Since mr WC in GW 2 I have climbed 1m places so that I’m itself feels like justification. I do think it’s important to note however that premium defenders will come good. Once Allison and (eventually) Laporte return I will be moving funds back into their defences. » Read
I think Cantwell is a factor here. I went 343 with my eight attacker being Cantwell, a player who is useful. A 4.5m striker doesn’t have the same upside IMO. I’m rolling with Salah, Sterling, KDB, Mount, Cantwell, Firmino, Rashford and Pukki and it’s working quite well. » Read
Follow your gut instinct. A few of us went cheap at the back a few weeks ago and were largely ridiculed on here. It’s not a “season keeper” decision (at least for me). I made the decision after GW2 to pile funds into my front 8 because IMO there are only two excellent defensive units in the PL, Liverpool and City, and both have been significantly hampered by injuries to key players (Allison and Laporte). This for me was an important development. » Read

I’ve been rolling with 343 since my WC after GW2. I have Rashford, Firmino and Pukki. I also went light at the back (and got well and truly slaughtered for it). OR has improved from 2.3m to 1m since WC so ok to date. The only premium defender I want is TAA. It’s nice to see the return of strikers! » Read
