  2. Expected goals part two: the pros and cons for FPL 6 days, 20 hours ago

My take on xG is that it may not be the best way to assess the whole team but I find it very informative for assessing players. For example the rebound problem doesn’t concern me at all in terms of assessing individual players. If a player happens to be at the right place at the right time to anticipate the rebound to me it is equal with a clear cut change from normal play. » Read

That’s good news FPL-wise. I’m also considering Lanzini from GW2 if he’s fit and the price is right » Read

This is normal if there isn’t a big summer tournament (World Cup, Euros) and before new season’s prices are released. You’d wish it was this quiet when you start seeing a swarm of casual RMTs from mid-July » Read

  6. Wesley more likely to boost Villa colleagues than provide FPL value himself 11 days, 10 hours ago

That’s a big yes from me. That 0.5m rule at the start of the season makes it easier for casuals who don’t have the expertise to squeeze each 0.1 out of the budget the way we would » Read

I agree, PL teams have top managers, I think managers are attracted by bigger budget for players and the higher level of control over transfers for managers at PL cubs in comparison to other European leagues preferring more of a coach role » Read

I’ve always associated Rice with more of a DM role, similar to Dier for example, rather than a creative llyer that can dictate the tempo. Winks seems more suited to that role and could florish next year if Eriksen’s decided to leave Surs. With Erik still in the team Wink’s role may remain limited » Read

I did post last week here that Winks could be the answer for England in CM. Rice has been poor for England and West Ham. He must’ve been promised some play time in order to switch allegiance from Ireland. First team should be picked based on form, not on massaging someone’s ego, or their bank account for that matter. » Read

  16. What to expect from Aston Villa's attack in FPL as Smith forced to recruit 16 days, 15 hours ago

I absolutely hated the CL with two group stages. Even stopped watching for some time. I do like the World Cup format allowing ‚exotic’ pairings. It’s a magic of the World Cup that football fans all over the world are glued to the screen watching Saudi Arabia v Egypt or Panama v Tunisia that ‚normal’ people won’t understand » Read

UEFA went towards your suggestion of ellite ‚league’ by creating the Champions League in current format that allows more than one team per country. Call me old fashioned but I enjoyed football more in the old days (I mean 1980s and 90s) when a club like Cervena Zvezda Belgrade had a realistic chance of winning the European Cup. Back than it was pure Cup of Champions, one team per league from each country under UEFA, doesn’t matter how good the league was. European football has moved on since than, there’s much more money in it now and it was the Premier League that’s lead a way in commercialisation of football in Europe » Read

I followed most of the NL’s group stage matches and watched the semis and the final, so for me that’s been a great addition to the calendar. They should scrap the NL 3rd place match though. That’s a most pointless game I can imagine » Read

  20. What to expect from Aston Villa's attack in FPL as Smith forced to recruit 16 days, 20 hours ago

For players and supporters of Peru, Saudi Arabia, Costa Rica or Panama it does matter they are represented in the World Cup. By your line of thought we should scrap all European leagues to get rid of rubbish teams playing against the ellite, just one European super league as advocated by the richest clubs. I guess you don’t see a point in ManCity or Liverpool playing Norwich or Burnley unless it’s in the FA Cup » Read
