Fabregas Set To Miss Out Against Birmingham

Arsene Wenger has all but ruled out Cesc Fabregas for Saturday’s Emirates clash with Birmingham.

In his usual Thursday afternoon update Wenger stated that match fitness was a concern with his skipper stating…

“Cesc is very, very short and unlikely to be involved [on Saturday]. He has a little chance for Tuesday.”

The news will come as a major blow to Fantasy Managers who will have preparing their squads for the return of the Gunners playmaker ahead of Gameweek 7. Fabregas is currently riding high in our Captain poll with 24% of the vote.

Given that Fabregas will now likely make a Premier League return against City at Eastlands in Gameweek 9, it now looks as though we will be afforded a couple of weeks of breathing space to muster the funds required to bring in the inspirational Spaniard. That will be little consolation to those who have already made the move, or played their wildcards this week to manufacture the transfer.

Samir Nasri – in strong form and possibly deployed up in support of the lone striker, now looks a lot good prospect against Birmingham. Crucially Nasri started on the bench in Tuesday’s Euro Qualifier with Luxembourg, only appearing on 63 minutes.

In other news from the Emirates, Wenger confirmed that Nicklas Bendtner will make a return to the squad – a development that immediately puts Marouane Chamakh under threat as a Fantasy prospect. Bendtner is likely to start life on the bench against Birmingham but clearly will be a factor from this point on. Wenger had this to say on Bendtner’s return…

“Apart from the fact he went to the World Cup we have not seen the real Nicklas Bendtner for a long, long time. He is the closest he has been to his best for a while. He was really, really handicapped by groin problems but they have gone now.”

Theo Walcott could also figure; he is set to be assessed following Friday’s training session. Kieran Gibbs is available and could start with Gael Clichy rested with Tuesday’s Champions League tie in mind.
Thomas Vermaelen and Bacary Sagna remained sidelined and Wenger has cast doubt on their return against City…

“Sagna is ten days, Vermaelen is ten days”

Manuel Almunia will likely be in contention for the City game while Robin Van Persie remains “a bit longer” away from a return. We’re all too familiar with that particular prognosis when it comes to Van Persie.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Gerrard = 11.5m defensive mid for a team 18th in the league. Wouldn't go near him.

hes on set pieces for a team that has one of the wriggliest bad boys up front, how do you stop him, you foul him and give away a set piece

a la his point haul against united!

With the news Fabs for GW10 seems the best option...

    Thoughts on GW8 team?

    Krul (Foster)
    Alcaraz Mummy Toure (Dann Jara)
    Bale VDV Malouda Nani (Adam)
    Berbatov(C) Drogba Carroll

    Sub Order: Adam Dann Jara

Then do the transfers in GW10:
Toure > Simpson (hopefully in first 11 by then)
Bale > Fabregas (if Bale and VDV are both having stormers then I'm not sure who I'll transfer out)

Because pre Chelsea game Wenger said Fabregas was unfit and wouldnt play in the game ruling him out.

Here he said it was "unlikely" for the weekend. He didnt rule him out like he did with others which was strange in my view.

I reckon he will see some minutes but whether he will start is up for debate.

All this negative press on Rooney on SAF is kindof making me wonder whether Rooney might not be rested this weekend, with Macheda and Berbatov getting the start. His authority has been challenged by Wazzer and he will want to prove who is really in charge, still considering it mind, but being slightly put off, no smoke without fire and all that.

I have exact same back 7, a little concerned that Boateng might not have shaken off his flu during the week, but I want him long term. That team is good and you have a plan to bring Fab back, that's a bingo.

I think that every week there have been a bunch of posts by members who think Wazza is "due a goal" or "he will come good" (or variations thereof).

Now he's just gone and pissed off SAF, and that's not a smart move at all.

So anyone playing him this GW would have to be taking a really wild punt. If you are waaay behind in your mini leagues then it may be worth the massive gamble, but that's the only reason I'd have him in my team.

What is Newcastle's first choice back four when everyone is fit?

Is Williamson now a mainstayu of that team and is Sol (at his age) competing with Collocini to partner him?

Asking this cos Enrique for roughly the same price I don't gives any extra value in returns (goals, assists) whilst Williamson could get a goal or bonuses.

So can that effective continue week on week.

You have 2, use 1, therefore you get 2 week after but use 1 again and (repeat) until you use the 2 in one GW.

Ha, Nani has had 2 internationals and Utd have an easy home game, it's not THAT farfetched.
