The Scout Head to Head Leagues 2011/12 – Draw Results

When Fantasy Premier League (FPL) opened its doors a couple of weeks ago, we weren’t far behind. Fantasy Football Scout got the ball rolling on our Head to Head leagues for the 2011/12 season by creating another two more and asked you all to stick your names in the hat for entry.

You kindly responded in your droves and after many man hours of wading through the entries, and a glamorous draw which took place on Saturday morning, we have had over 60 new leagues places to hand out to the lucky few recipients of our draw. The results (click to enlarge) and final figures on the nine Head to Head leagues (new entries highlighted) are as follows…

As you can see from the graphic above, there was at least one extra place in all of our leagues – be it from people dropping out or not claiming their spot in time. Firstly, if you see your name highlighted in that peach melba colour then you should have already received an email response to that which you entered with your respective league codes – if not, then whizz me over an email and I’ll sort things out for you.

Impressive Tackle and Back on the horse are the healthiest recipients who have jumped all the way up to FFS H2H 1 thanks to having the superior ranking of all our draw winners – Impressive Tackle finished a mind-bending 14th in the world last year.

Gooner Dave wasn’t far behind so takes up the single space left in FFS H2H 2. Four new managers get to take on Fantasy Football Scout head honcho Mark in FFS H2H 3 – Have they got what it takes to beat “The Scout”? I’m sure they’ll relish the challenge.

LawnDart jumps right into FFS H2H 4 on his own while FFS H2H 5 sees three new managers get to compete with Fantasy Football Scout super scribe Sir Paulos, podcast jockey Granville and differential destroyer (and my main rival) Big Dunc – without doubt the most Scout heavy Head to Head league.

Our Stateside Scout Da Beeeez is joined by three new faces in FFS H2H 6 with guiness416, Heisenberg and pompeyfan getting a jump up into our league structure.

FFS H2H 7 was our bottom league last season so sees a fair few new faces join its ranks thanks to a whole load of relegations – our comment-board regulars will perhaps recognise the likes of Johnny Unitas, Horizontal and RaspingDrive in amongst the qualifiers.

Scout business brain El Fozzie is heading up FFS H2H 8 (the first of two new leagues which has nineteen new faces) – Greeny was the best ranked manager of this bunch at a very respectable 17,284th place last season.

Certainly, 17,284th is more than I could have ever hoped for, which perhaps explains why I am heading up FFS H2H 9 – or what I am now dubbing “The Underachievers”. You will notice plenty of recognisable faces from long time caller Pasqualinho to King Nil Miss with a certain Westfield Irons inbetween. The Irons are the team managed by none other than Jon Reeson, winner of the whole 2009/10 FPL campaign and Marks’ Radio companion. Last season saw Jon struggle to keep up appearances following his banner year but is back ahead of the 2011/12 season and will undoubtedly have 19 Head to Head rivals eager for the victory scalp of an ex-FPL champion.

For those of you needing a reminder of how our promotion/relegation works then have a gander at the following graphic and work out just where you need to finish to survive and/or prosper.

This, of course, indicates that we know we need to cater for many more than just the 180 managers in our Head to Head leagues above. So without further ado we also christen the opening of the Fantasy Football Scout Reserve League (code: 759-148560).

If you were unfortunate enough to not have your name pulled out of the hat in the draw/got relegated/left it too late to claim your place then the Reserve League is open to anyone wanting to enter. Your league code (759-148560) should allow you the chance for 38 Fantasy Football Scout endorsed Head to Head fixtures and the shot at promotion into the aforementioned structure – just make sure your team finishes in the top 45 places and then keep your eyes peeled the following summer if you do.

Stick around for sporadic League updates through the season whenever we can squeeze them in, I’ll hopefully have a short graphic based one up in the early September international break and our first comprehensive movers and shakers report in the following October break.

Congratulations to our 60+ draw winners. Get joining our Reserve League if you’re not in on the action. I’m going for a stiff Ribena, am glad all that work is almost over until next summer. Good luck. Except to those in League Nine- I need all the help I can get in that one.

Kompany ... are you all paying attention?

Last season, classed as a midfielder, he scored 95 points, including 6 bonus points. That total included 18 points for 18 clean sheets. His net total is therefore 71 points. If he had correctly been classed as a defender, he would have acquired 18x4=72 on top, making his net total 143. This would have place him second after Baines, in the NET table.

In the EA Rankings, he is estimated second, after Vidic. I do not see the prospect of him suddenly acquiring more than his original 6 bonus points under the new system. In my opinion, he may well receive less this year, because he is, despite being ever present, not the dominant factor that either Vidic, Baines, Huth or Hangeland are ...

Tis a nice sheet MMW. However, I disagree on the boni. He is still ranked in the top 10 of the EA index even though he got no goals. He should tehrefore be nailed on for boni in low scoring games.

He doesn't have to be more dominant than Vidic et al, he has to be more dominant than the rest of his team mates.

              Also he costs 6.0.

Vidic index score 551, Nani 471. Vidic got 9 bp, Nani 25.

Kompany index score 518, Silva 406. Kompany got 6 bp, Silva 20.

I think these will even out this season.

    Hi Everyone,

What does everyone thinks of Downing?

I have watched a few of Pool's pre-season and he seems their best player going foreward. I dont think he would be a bad way into the pool's attack. Obviously Suarez is there too but without knowing if he will start I just wondered what the general consensus on him is?

I like Downing and had him in a few drafts but I just wanted to wait and see how he/Liverpool do at the start and I have a sneaky feeling Suarez will start the season. He's in my team and he aint moving until I hear Kenny say he won't play

I am thinking very seriously about Downing. I can see the Downing /Carroll combo being effective for Liverpool At 7.5 it would be a no brainer. 8.5 is a tricky pricing point. It is a lot of cash for a non captain choice. Is he worth the extra over Nzog?

Bent is known in these parts as Mr 4 ppg. Reliable, consistent, etc but just not quite the heavy point scorer we'd like him to be.

RVP is fixtureproof. Manure's fix are arguably much worse.

            Options:

1)How about I spend the first 4 weeks with Bent/Rooney where Bent has incredibly easy fixtures and once Arsenal's tough fixture go away, I bring in Suarez and RVP on GW4?

2)Or do you think I can switch Bent to Suarez now and use the remaining 0.5 for a better defender?

            Are you serious?!

Given will probably get more save points that Cech. Both Given and Cole are likely to pick up a few more bonus points. Cole will get more assists and/or goals.

As it is, I've got Warnock as well as Given.

Save points normally means his goal is getting battered a lot!
Therefore will be letting in a goal or two, maybe even -1 points!

I'll save the 0.5m and spend it elsewhere, but I do see your and everyone else's argument.

(watch Given get injured in GW3, and everyone panic that there are no replacements!)

I honestly hope that this works out for you but I don't see Cech getting more than 6/7 points in most games. What about Young's attacking threat? Does it even exist? What are peoples thoughts on Malouda?
I'm fairly sure he'll start but my major worry is that he is a prime candidate for being substituted a lot. With Kalou, Benayoun, Sturridge and of course the oft benched Torres sat with splinters in their bums, is Malouda worth the risk at 10.5?

Love the gyan pick if he is fit, apart from GW1 have great fixtures in an attacking team on the up with not many striker choices.

I would downgrade Luiz or hangeland to Jose Enrique than upgrade bale to silva.

Maybe try to find an extra 1 to go aguero as he might not enjoy the physical nature, or play off either balotelli, tevez(eto'o)

I thought I read somewhere Jarvis might miss the start of the season as well.

Its different. Not very generic. The problem I could point out is the lack of players who I would feel comfortable captaining.

I would also say that your defence is to expensive. Downgrade 2 of the 4 starters and upgrade gyan to Rooney/RVP since you dont have any coverage of those teams.

Anyone else thinking of going big on defence this year?
With the high prices of even some mediocre fpl mfs and fwds I think it could be the way to go.
Given/Begovic will give you a decent chance of a cleanie every week, much more likely than a combo that includes the likes of Ruddy or Kenny imo.
I am also looking at having Cole, Lescott and Baines and playing them every week. Good cleanie prospects and I believe that with attacking potential from all three, they are likely to return more points than their 8m, .5m and 6.5m mf or fwd counterparts.

Jafs - I need some advice on defenders. Let's assume BK and Simpson are 2 of the 5.

Would you then "risk" Luiz over Cole? I was considering Hughes a 5 mill, but then I feel I should play him every week for the start based on fix. Would it then be wise to get anoter 4m def, eg Orr?

    Or is 2 x 4.5m def better

That's what I'm thinking too, Inze. Luiz, if starts, will be a much better bet than Cole.

That leaves me with a defensive combo of Bad K, Luiz, Orr, Briggs and Simpson.

So, you play Luiz and Bad K every week which means all you have to do is rotate the three ubercheaps around.

I can see you coming in the top 1k this year, boy 😉

I would get rid of Gervinho, Rodallega and Downing.

Gervinho will most likely be playing in midfield and competing with Walcott, Arshavin and Nasri, plus he is unproven in EPL.

Zamora is a better option than Rodallega for his opening run of fixtures, and is cheaper.

Downing as a good prospect, but I don't think Liverpool will start the season strong. I would wait on see with him.

Perhaps get Malouda into the midfield with the cash you save up top. Or get Bent instead of Gervinho.

I'd upgrade Albrighton or Pratley. N'zog is a more obvious choice for Villa for starters.
If (and its a big IF) Rafeal plays consistently then him and Clichy rotating with one from the other 3 looks a decent cheapish defense to me.

Yeah, definitely. However, he could make up for that with assists/goals. But only at Arsenal.

Since everybody seems to be considering an expensive defense what do you think of this.

    A.Cole + Baines + Ferguson

    or

    Oshea + Tate + Malouda

Malouda or A.Cole is the only Chelsea coverage. I could probably find 0.5 more to upgrade ferguson to a suitable 4.5 midfielder, even though they are hard to come by.
