Scout Scribbles- Mancini Talks Rotation

As Roberto Mancini talks about rotating his forwards, Sir Alex Ferguson sets his front two their goal targets for the season. Tony Pulis and Andre Villas-Boas both praise their defences, while Harry Redknapp explains his decision to drop Rafael Van der Vaart for Spurs’ Europa League squad. Here’s some Scribbles for this morning, folks:

Roberto Mancini brought up the dreaded “R” word yesterday. The Italian admitted rotation will play a large part going forward, particularly when it comes to his forwards. Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero have both scored six goals in the first four league games but Mancini has already shown last weekend, that Dzeko’s recent form meant nothing as he sat out the game with Wigan. Mancini said:

I count myself very lucky to rely on four strikers, especially in a situation where the team needs to play every three days. I can have a good turnover of the strikers. For now Mario will have to adapt to the situation, he will not be playing for the next few matches.

Dzeko and Aguero are great players and Tevez has nothing to be afraid of. He is a player who always gives 100% performance and doesn’t need to prove himself. He has already done so.

Sir Alex Ferguson has set his front two their goal targets for the season. The United boss laid down the gauntlet to both Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez, suggesting fifty goals between them is what he’s aiming for. Given the duo’s start to the season, it seems more than feasible- they have already hit ten from a combined total of five starts:

Two years ago Wayne’s target was to go over 30 and he reached it very quickly. If he gets to that target again I will be absolutely delighted because with Javier’s ability to score we could have two goalscorers well above 25.

Tony Pulis took time out to hail his defence yesterday. Stoke are unbeaten in eight games in all competitions and have chalked up six clean sheet over those fixtures, with just one goal conceded in the league so far. With home clean sheets against both Chelsea and Liverpool, Pulis reckons the experience brought in over the summer has made a crucial difference:

Begovic and Shawcross are exceptionally good players. Last year we maybe lacked a bit of experience and Upson and Woodgate have got the experience we didn’t have. I think one of the reasons we have done so well is we have had that cool experience at the back.

The big difference has been having a Woodgate or an Upson at the heart of defence. We have benefited so far from having one of them in that slot.

Following on from this, Pulis has omitted Jonathan Woodgate from Stoke’s Europa League squad. The Potters boss reckons too much travelling may trigger a recurrence of Woodgate’s previous injury issues and has omitted the centre half in order to preserve him for Premier League duties.

Andre Villas-Boas also took time out to praise his defence. Not so much for their resilience, however, more in relation to their ball-playing abilities. David Luiz grabbed a goal on his first start of the season last night and Villas-Boas explained that his philosophy is starting to show signs of fruition in matches:

It’s not the first time this season that you’ve seen our centre-halves breaking through, driving with the ball. I’m happy. It means the idea that we’re putting over in training and taking hold. These players have the technical talent to take it out on the pitch.

Harry Redknapp moved to pacify Rafael Van der Vaart yesterday. The Dutchman was upset after not being told he was to be left out of the Spurs Europa League squad and even went as far as to express his annoyance on his own website but Redknapp explained his decision:

The first diagnosis on Rafa’s hamstring was that he would be out for six weeks – at least. We might as well put in some of the other lads who can play. The game he would have come back for would have been the game out in Russia and it would have been a long journey for him.

I wouldn’t have slapped Rafa out on that long journey probably anyway. He’s a very important player for us. If we get through the group he can come in then.

Sunderland could well have to do without Phil Bardsley for the next few games. The FA have charged the Black Cats full-back with violent conduct after he appeared to stamp on Juan Mata during Chelsea’s weekend win at the Stadium of Light. Bardsley has already been sent off this season and reports suggest he could be facing a four match ban, meaning he’d miss the showdowns with Stoke, Norwich, West Brom and Arsenal.

Similarly, West Brom will miss the services of Gabriel Tamas for the next three games. The Baggies defender accepted a charge of violent conduct from the FA after elbowing James Vaughan in the 1-0 win over Norwich on Sunday, and will sit out the upcoming league matches against Swansea and Fulham.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    found this on brunt

He picked up a knock on his knee in training on Monday. It is nothing serious, it is more precautionary.

I also had Cabaye penciled in for gw 6, but unless something changes in his position that he plays there is no way I'm going near him.

He was disgustingly poor vs QPR, and played so far back I thought he was a defender.

Right to clear some thing up. I have Bardsley who it looks like is out for 4 games and Martin who isnt getting back in th enorwich team barring injury. on total fpl thier % is

    Bardsley 43% to a drop
    Martin 59% to a drop

Martin has a 0.2 ownership and Bardsley has a 4.5. I'm assuming Bardsley will get red flagged and drop drastically and Martin will stay pretty stagnant because of his low ownership. So it would be wise for me to sell Bardsley over Martin.

well of the pace in my mini league but not too worried, Think Silva will play every week and Aguero and Dzeko too much of a rotation risk although the way they are scoring when they play you ca afford them to be out every 2nd game. I wonder why Osman isn't in anyones plans. Spearheaded a front 3 behind the striker and scored last match with Arteta gone (not to mention 2 bonus points aswell). Considering captaining him against Wigan and then getting rid of him next, saving my transfer to downgrade A.Cole and then upgrade Osman for a big hitter. Makes sense.

I think he's a season keeper, I'm going to try and get him in in the next few gws, he scores a lot of goals from midfield and has really taken on Pienaars points since he left. By the way, was Pienaar to spurs not one of the most pointless transfers in prem history?

As a Spurs fans, 100% yes. It's not that he's a bad player it's with the midfield we've got he doesn't fit in anywhere whatsoever. Yeah his versatility is nice, but so is Kranjcars.

A season keeper eh? I did think that but i guess i'll see how he does against Wigan first. With the pan i suggested above it'd have anywhere from 9.7-10.7 to spend on my midfield.

Pienaars points. What points? He was always the assister to the assister and rarely got any more than the obligatory 2 points, so was never really an option in FPL. Osman on the other hand is playing central and does a lot more direct attacking so is a good shout.

I love that Pienaar is rotting on Spurs bench - personally I hope he stays there all season and leaves for a Saudi Arabian side in the summer, the money grabbing swine.

Hard to say... depends on how Vellios and Straqawotsit get on. For him to fit into the side, he'd need to play up front on his own or just behind Saha in a 4-4-2. Moyes looks set to go 4-2-3-1 and so he doesn't really fit as the middle of the front 3, it needs to be a more creative type like Osman for it to work.

For now though, he looks set to play up front on his own so is probably the best option from Everton at the moment (except Baines of course)

When i downgrade Bent for Adebayor, i could field

          Mata, Arteta, Osman, Silva (Dyer)

I just don't want to get Silva 'cause i've already missed a lot of his points and reckon he'll get rotated soon enough.. He's the only what i'd call a big hitter above 9.5.

Not really, before the start of the season everyone was talking about Hernandez being the better by because of Rooney's positioning. No reason to think that Hernandez isn't a better buy now, a couple mil cheaper and he's just got 12 points his first start back.

Good idea imo, although I'm not that brave!

I wont do it until funds are needed, even then i may not!
But i think Hernandez will score just as many, all he does is sit around the goals waiting for a pass or run and then scores 😀

What is the general consensus over here regarding the mancity forward situation... which 2 are the favs for the weekend.. aguero and dzeko or dzeko or tevez or aguero and tevez???

I reckon the Champs League match tonight will give a good indication of who will play this wkend. If Macini starts Dzeko tonight it could mean aguero has dibs against Fulham. Just a thought.

There's lots of chat about Brunt a few posts up. But I think he'll play, he's an important player for WSB

Ok im keepng brunt for now knee jerking has doen me no good in the past.

if he misses a few more games i can play dyer and if swansea do score soon he may get an assist or 2 you never know.

Brunt is west brom captain so surely he will be back in soon ,
so im going to stick with him because if i knee jerk and sell him sods law says he will get a few assists or a goal in his next few matches .

    Simpson/De Laet/Bosingwa/Enrique/Woodgate?

Provided Woodgate is fit im thinking of playing him alongside Bosingwa and Simpson, and if he's out then put in Enrique, but pretty worried that all my defence are playing away!

    Keeper is Vorm (Krul)

Nice of the CL fantasy organisers to give all my players clean sheets. Apart from poor old Oleksandr Rybka....

With the substitutes, if I bring in Maxi Pereira for Gotze, and Pereira then doesn't play, will Gotze be restored to the starting line-up? Also, if I make the Gotze > Pereira sub now, and then the teamsheets come out and Pereira isn't playing, can I manually put Gotze back in?

Nope you cant put Gotze back in, I want to know if it still does autosubs.

I have transferred out one of my clean sheet defenders, gutting to see the loss in points but I would hope it is only temporary this clean sheet ting

yes that's right. Once you change your captain, it's done. Once you sub a player out, he's done. Even if you only sub 1 player, then auto-subs are cancelled. Of course who knows knows what will happen atm...

I set up a team but when push came to shove last night, I found myself not caring a jot about CL games. Frankly, I think the CL is over-rated and over-exposed and I wish broadcasters would ease up on the hype.

Get to the knock-out phase, fair enough, but group games are so often dreadful. Europa League the same, too many meaningless and poor entertainment games - time football eased up on fixtures for its own good and stopped trying to milk every last penny from fans, or it'll do a pop, and eat itself.

        Boo CL...
