Watchlist

The Watchlist- Martin Petrov

While a recent run of results has seen Bolton plummet to the bottom of the Premier League table, an upturn in their forthcoming fixtures offers hope. Though six straight defeats have left their opening day win at QPR a distant memory, the form of Martin Petrov has been the one shining light for Owen Coyle’s side.

The Bulgarian has been an ever-present in the Trotters side to date and, playing every minute of their campaign, has already notched up 4 assists- just one less than David Silva and more than the likes of Nani. Given that we’re just approaching Gameweek eight, this is a significant step up from the form of last season, where the Bulgarian managed a total of five and is indicative of his flourishing role in Bolton’s attacking play.

A total of 32 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points to date has seen Petrov cement his position as a viable mid-price option this term and is all the more impressive considering he’s faced five of last season’s top six from Gameweek two onwards. He’s also found the net, scoring a penalty in the absence of regular taker Kevin Davies in the 2-1 defeat by Norwich.

With a run of games that reads (wig, SUN, swa, STO, wba, EVE) kicking off as of this weekend, Petrov firmly establishes himself in our updated Watchlist rankings. His delivery from out wide- he’s third top for successful crosses this term- and set-piece duties only add to the appeal and it’s obvious that if Owen Coyle is to orchestrate a climb out of the drop zone, his left winger will be crucial to the Trotters’ fortunes.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Aguero, Odemwingie and Adebayor is an awful front three at the moment. Doubts surrounding every single one of them. Only have one free transfer too so can't really fix it. Crap.

I took another 8 point hit this week to sort mine out. I believe Aguero - Dzeko will be worth > 4 points, particularly if you captain.

Wow yeah that is harsh mate and quite unlucky. I've been fairly fortunate with injuries so far this season (touch wood) although i do have RVP so i suppose it's only a matter or time

        It stinks, really.

Looks like it will have to be a 4 pointer to fix it. I'm almost sure I will do Odemwingie->Sturridge, which then leaves me with the option to sell either Aguero for RVP or Adebayor for Suarez. Both have their merits, and although I don't love the -4 I only really have Dyer to come on as a sub so can't have two attackers missing out 🙁

Sounds sensible to me. I have both Suarez and RVP at the moment (i'm not boasting... honestly) but if i had to choose i'd go for RVP. Of course that means losing Aguero which is hard to take but perhaps you can work him back in by the time GW10 rolls around

looks like that -4 is better than the alternative

aguero for RVP - not because adebayor is certain to play, but because RVP promises more points than Suarez

Hi Meelight. We rolled out a fix for IE this morning so the issues should have cleared up. If you’re using IE7 or 8, the load time on the Members Ticker in the sidebar will be far longer than in IE9 or other browsers, but it should load.

Can you mail me at support@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk with details of your issue and your browser version.

It's typical of their mentality, club over country. They are also always popping up with phantom injuries before midweek international breaks, Fletcher is probably the worst culprit. He is almost as bad as Stevie G in that respect.

Fantasy Champions League update - FC Basel are about to lose coach Thorsten Fink to Bundesliga strugglers Hamburger SV (for whom Frank Arnesen is currently interim coach). Basel want Fink to wait until the winter break before leaving, HSV want him now - which means he'll probably go.

Shaqiri is looking really good in the league for FC Basel at the moment, Bob, as is his fellow Swiss U-21 midfielder Fabian Frei. They're going to have a very good national team in about four year's time with this crop of youngsters - see also Sommer, Xhaka, Mehmedi, Inler, Lichsteiner etc.

So Switzerland's failure to qualify for Euro 2012 this week has been accepted by everyone as the inevitable consequence of integrating the new generation after the older stars (Alex Frei, Streller, the Yakin brothers, N'Kufo) headed for retirement. Just the lack of a goal-scoring strikeforce is a cause for concern.

Any advice on this team? I got 2 free transfers and nothing in the bank.

    Vorm, Given
Bosingwa, Kompany, Gabbidon, De Laet, Simspon
    Sinclair, Ramsey, Moses, Silva, SWP
    Rooney, RVP, Suarez

Would you sell Rooney? I really need some cash to improve my squad elsewhere and selling Rooney looks like the easiest way to raise some £££.

De Laet has to go but i'm not sure this is a priority at the moment. My initial thought was to replace Rooney with a cheaper striker (Sturridge, Bent, Adebayor, Drogba etc) and then upgrade De Laet or SWP. Now i'm thinking maybe hold fire this week and then target the likes of Enrique and Bent for GW9.

Any suggestions will be most appreciated! Cheers boys.

Trouble with selling De Laet as well this week is that i have to use my extra freebie just to raise the money to upgrade him. Having said that i am quite keen to sell SWP this week actually regardless of his 'good' fixture against Rovers. To me he seems to be suffering from playing too far forward.

Are you eyeing up Bent for GW9? WBA sun NOR is a nice little run of games. Plus Enrique has NOR wba SWA as well from GW9 which looks tasty.

Definitely looking at getting Enrique in, may even do it this week.

Not convinced by Bent. Aside from the one game against probably the worst team in the league (I'm sorry), he's looked totally ineffective, and is kind of expensive for a forward playing under McCleish!

Got RVP (will be Rooney in 2/3 weeks), Adebayor and Dzeko as my forward line, which I'm happy with, and if Dzeko gets dropped/Adebayor's injury keeps him out for a bit, Suarez will be my first choice replacement. Can't justify spending more on Bent.

Hadn't looked at the fixtures when I replied, so knowing that SWP has Blackburn means I'd definitely keep him. I guess getting rid of Rooney isn't the worst idea, especially when you can get him back relatively easily for RVP in a few weeks.

Everytime i look at potential transfer moves it always comes back to selling Rooney. Not quite sure who to get in as a replacement though. I guess i'll have to keep an eye on the team news coming in this week but Sturridge is very high up on the list. What's your opinion on Sturridge? Worth a go?

Yeah i think Suarez is a very good replacement for Dzeko/Adebayor. He's one man cover for the Liverpool attack really.

Do now think that Sturridge is definitely worth a gamble. Wasn't convinced initially, and still don't actually rate him that highly as a player, but AVB seems to like him out on the right, and with Mata on the other side, we need someone like him in the side to provide some width and directness.

                Yeah I feel the same.

In the end a Chelsea striker who plays for 6.5 is more likely to be worth the money than not.

          Hmmmmmmmmm. It's a bit tricky.

The other strikers you'd get would probably have to outscore him by 8 points in three weeks if you want to get him back when their fixtures turn good. MUN go on a massively good run in 3 weeks and I reckon everybody will want Rooney at that stage.

I think you may be spot on after having a little look at the rules.

"If you do not use your free transfer, you are able to make an additional free transfer the following Gameweek. If you do not use this saved free transfer in the following Gameweek, it will be carried over until you do. You can never have more than 1 saved transfer."

Looks like i will definitley be making a transfer or 2 this week then! If i had some money i'd just swap De Laet out but i don't much like the look of the £4.0m replacements except Taylor and i already have Vorm.

    Just an observation on Petrov...

His pen v Norwich came with both Davies and Klasnic off the pitch.

Davies is first choice but Coyle has already shown he is not a certain starter this year so I thought the prospect of taking penalties very worth factoring into Petrov's potential to score points. However, it was the game where Klasnic was sent off-and given he is a pure-bred finisher-that does place a question mark over Petrov's pen probability.

Any Bolton fans with an opinion?

I don't expect him to keep penalty duties when either of those two are on the pitch. Nonetheless, he's looking like a solid pick

If it hadn't been for the extra wildcard in GW2, many managers would have spent the early weeks of the season in replacing some of their random selections from GW1, and might also have retained more of their different initial choices. But because of that extra wildcard in GW2, many squads are more similar than usual, leading to the same players being bought and sold in the same gameweeks in greater numbers than usual, and thus causing the prices of these players to rise and fall more rapidly than usual. The players whose prices have dropped the most are those who had a good GW1 and were selected in large numbers for GW2, but who did not retain their form in subsequent gameweeks.

Last season, squads did not become so similar until after the January wildcard.

Sounds like a fair analysis. So, based on that, having a good hunch for a differential will have more impact this season than before?

A good differential is the quickest way to make up a big points deficit, but bad differentials are the easiest way to drop back again. Many differentials turn out to be bad ones, but they are great if used sparingly and wisely and they come off. Easier said than done!

Last season, long-time leader Chicarito caught up with the leaders from way back by captaining Berbatov (rather than Rooney) and Bale for home matches against Blackburn. Bale had been on a run of 2 pointers at the time. A rival described this as outrageous luck, but I would call them successful gambles.

As a Villan I am not convinced by Hutton so far. If you want a Villa defender better off with Warnock. Alternatively, the fixture favours Stoke so Shawcross (or Woodgate if you can't afford him) would be a shrewd move. Other than that team looks good to me...

That's very close to my current thinking. Except i'm going with Baines (as a differential) and Anderson instead of Nani as I'm miles behind in my mini league and my main rival has nani. I'm also thinking of Nasri instead of silva as my rival has silva. Also bosingwa and S.Taylor as I have had them since the start instead of enrique and kompany. Thoughts?

Rooney or Aguero (plus 1 million to spend) as my big hitter? My rival has both.

Thanks a lot mate. In the end the result was down to a variety of factors, most notably that Holland really didn't need to win which showed after we went 3-2 up with 30 minutes left. Still it's the biggest win for me as a supporter in a long long time.

To Funkyav: Denmark seem to be a real force at home especially. They also managed their generation change already which is nice.

WC dilemma. My current team is:

    Begovic/Krul
    Enrique Simpson Bosingwa Kompany Taylor
    Ramsey Nani VdV Dyer Silva
    Ade Sturridge Rooney

I am concerned with my lack of Liverpool coverage (given their favourable run of games after GW8). However, with the uncertainty surrounding Ade I am reluctant to sacrifice VdV so was leaning towards possibly swapping VdV for Adam in GW9.

Can anybody see any better options? Such as swapping any one of my forwards for Suarez perhaps?

I had been planning Nani to Silva for thid week to get some City coverage.. other option was Mata to Silva but fixtures say that isn't a great idea.

Now got Brunt and Adebayor doubful.. 0.9 in the bank. Have Moses as first sub so not a complete disaster if one of my doubts misses out completely, but don't want to risk it happening to both. Can't see much that tempts me in Brunt's price bracket but Adebayor to Sturridge is an option.

Is that a good move? Other strikers are Suarez and RVP. Thanks.
