The Knee Jerk

The Knee Jerk – Double Dilemma

Having failed to notch away from Craven Cottage this calendar year, many a Fantasy managers’ plans for the upcoming double Gameweek 36 had centred around getting rid of Clint Dempsey. This afternoon at the Reebok, the American give us plenty to ponder as a brace ended Bolton’s recent winning run and sent the US international to second behind Robin Van Persie in the overall points rankings.

Prior to today’s display, Dempsey’s notoriously poor away form had produced just three goals, compared to 10 goals and six assists in front of his own fans. With a blank Gameweek 34 on the horizon and trips to Liverpool and Everton in Gameweek 36, the decision to transfer him out made plenty sense; Fulham had scored just eight on the road all season before today, after all. Now, however, many have a dilemma.

Given his current form, those still holding Dempsey will surely look upon Monday evening’s upcoming home clash against Chelsea as another potentially strong opportunity of points. The visit of Wigan in Gameweek 35 affords him the chance of a substantial home haul, with the option of the captain’s armband a definite possibility.

While Gareth Bale and David Silva (without a goal since Gameweek 24 and Gameweek 16 respectively) stumble towards the finish line, Dempsey – handed a role up front in light of Pavel Pogrebnyak’s absence – simply shows no sign of letting up as he forges further ahead of his fellow-midfielders in the Fantasy running.

Transfer plans may now be postponed or ripped up altogether as we look for ways to hold onto the American. That straight swap for Theo Walcott before Arsenal’s trip to Wolves on Wednesday that many had in mind, or the move to Stephane Sessegnon for Sunderland’s home game with the midlanders in Gameweek 34 may never see the light of day now. With form the clear winner over fixtures as the season heats up, can we really afford to run the risk of moving out such a potent source of points?

Maybe, but I don't think he'll get the full 360mins with Eagles and Miyaichi also battling for places on either wing. He'll start one of those 4 games on the bench i'd imagine...?
I'm suprised i'm saying this, but what about Mark Davies...? He has achieved double figures twice this season already, Petrov is yet to do so.

Main reason of shipping Dempsey is blank GW34.

Walcott has every chance of scoring more than Dempsey next game, along with a nice fixture in GW34 too.

Wouldn't lose any player before a derby, especially Dempsey with his form and especially his home form.

My problem with getting him this week is:

          1) He gives me only 10 players in gw34. So he needs to outscore Demp (CHE) + Bendy (WOL) in one game vs BOL.

          2) Even if I get him in this week, I'm going to have a severe benching dilemma - who should I bench from this lot? Roo RVP Sig Val Demp Walc Bale.

    Right, here’s the plan

    Task 1: Get a full XI for GW34 ✔

    Vorm(BLA)
    Vermaelen(WIG) • Evans(AV) • Turner(WOL) • Caulker(BLA)
    Valencia(AV) • Walcott(WIG) • Sigurdsson(BLA) • Sessegnon(WOL)
    Rooney(AV) • RVP(WIG)(C)

    Subs: Sorenson(N/A) • Cisse(N/A) • Bale(N/A) • Simpson(N/A)

Task 2: Get a decent amount of DGWers ✔

    GW34: Save
    GW35: Walcott + Vermaelen → Kaboul + Dempsey(Captain vs WIG-H)
    GW36: Rooney + Turner → Adebayor + Baines -4

    Vorm(WOL)
    Baines(FUL,sto) • Kaboul(BLA,bol) • Simpson(wig,che)
    Bale(BLA,bol) • Dempsey(eve,liv) • Sessegnon(BOL) • Sigurdsson(WOL)
    RVP(sto) • Adebayor(BLA,bol) • P.Cisse(wig,che)

    Subs: Sorenson(ARS,eve) • Caulker(WOL) • Valencia(mc) • Evans(mc)

    Bank: £1.0m

    So, what's you thinkin?

I'm afraid Raylor seems to have lost his starting role on the right wing to Ben Arfa for now at least.
      Possibilities against Bolton....

Raylor starts on the left wing instead of Barfa = Unlikely
Raylor starts in centre midfield, Cabaye moves over to the left wing and Gutierrez plays at left-back at the expense of Santon = Unlikely
Raylor starts at left back instead of Santon = Could happen...
Raylor starts on the bench = Probably what will happen

I agree, go for Williamson. Too much doubt over Raylor starting in my opinion.

        Thinking:

GW33 - no transfer, team is okay
GW34 - Kelly to Turner or Sagna or someone thereby fielding 10
GW35 - Maybe Turner/Sagna to Collins for DGW
GW36 - Maybe RVP or Rooney to Ade, Evans to Baines thereby fielding only 7 DGWsers

11 in GW34 is a must for your team. You get there easily with 2FTs for GW35.
Nice FT for GW35. Would you play him in GW36?
Sess, McClean & Larsson are all good options. Sess will be the most popular out of the 3. 50-50 on the upgrade, watch both next game. McClean played very well as did Sess. Good trades in GW36.

              Cheers TM.....

Collins probably only play GW35 so might do him for Baines for 36 instead of Evans who might be better for remainder of the season.

Don't know who else to ship for 34 in order to field 11, as has a knock on affect. Any suggestions?

Bale or Dempsey are options but you will probably want them back. Someone may get injured to make that decision easier. Saving the trade is a good option too.

Yes I was thinking that an injury would help considerably, not that I wish that on anybody, of course.

You reckon the Collins option is decent or were you joking? Just think at home to Bolton and Sunderland ain't a bad shout....

It's a 1 week punt. Easily 4 points if they defend well plus it's all free. Better to sell him than Evans though for GW36. I don't want any injuries as I am struggling for 11 in GW34.

Your front 8 look okay, don't think transfers are necessary.

Perhaps upgrade kelly to ARS or MCI defender. MCI plays nor in GW34 and wol in GW35

The Captains Poll this week will probably only have a couple of hundred votes...

If one was such inclined, one would stand a better chance of manipulating it this week to hilarious effect...

If, for example, one were to vote for Andy Carroll and persuade enough others to do the same - whereby Carroll came out on top, one would find that extremely amusing...

    😉

Spare a thought for the scouts . Mark has Dempsey on the bench and Granville and I took out clint for Walcott. Going to need a good score from Walcott over the next 3 weeks and from capt potato head today.

Wow. Are you able to field a decent side in gw34 despite that?

Boy, at this rate, I'll be the only non-Cisse owner left. 😕
I'm going with 5 decent mids (B/Sig/V/D/W) this week and in gw35, hence not feeling the need for Cisse. I feel like I've missed the boat on Cisse.
