City Issue Aguero Injury Update

Manchester City have confirmed this afternoon that Sergio Aguero is expected to be sidelined for the next couple of Gameweeks at least. The club’s official website gave Fantasy managers a handy injury update on a trio of their stars earlier this evening, with the Aguero news the most crucial to our transfer planning:

Roberto Mancini revealed the player has undergone knee scans and has since been assessed by medical personnel. The City boss was optimistic over a quick return to action for his star forward, with a possible comeback for the Gameweek 4 trip to Stoke on the cards:

“I don’t think Sergio will be out for long and we are hoping he will be back after the international break which is obviously fantastic news for him and for us. We were very worried a couple of days ago because we feared he could be out for six months or maybe even more which would have been very bad news. It looked like a very strange injury at the time and because it was his knee, we were obviously very concerned so this news is a relief for everybody.”

The news will no doubt speed up the transfers-out over the next few days, with Carlos Tevez the obvious trade. Aguero has already been shipped out by 132, 000 Fantasy managers after he was stretchered off against the Saints on Sunday – Tevez has been acquired by more than 94,000 in anticipation of a possible absence for his compatriot and is on the verge of rising in price for the second time this week in FPL.

Mancini also revealed that Gareth Barry and Micah Richards will remain on the sidelines for the time being. Barry could well join Aguero in returning for the Stoke clash but Richards may be out for a longer period – this promotes Pablo Zabaleta in our Fantasy thinking, with the 6.0 priced Argentine’s role at right-back looking nailed-on until Richards comes back into contention:

“Gareth will also be ready after the international break. “He hasn’t played any games for almost four months and he needs to build his fitness up, but he is training again and I don’t see him being out for any longer than one month and hopefully, maybe just a couple of weeks. Micah’s injury is more serious and he could be out a little longer, but having said that, with rest and the right treatment, we are hopeful he could be ready in about one month, which again would be great news.”

I'm loving Kagawa. Would just like to see a shot or 2 from him. All I've seen on clips are Messi-like goals, so he might be more of a Silva than a Nasri.

Doosra you online? Just was reminded by Eduardo's comments today of how many assists Song got last year - 16, the most assists at Arsenal. He was truly fantasy football material when he left, I can't believe people were skeptical of him.

But almost all of those assists were to RVP. He had an amazing connection with him. As soon as RVP left his stock fell through the floor imo.

Should check out his amazing assist for Walcott in the final goal of the 5-2 win over Spurs. I've heard the "he can only assist RVP" argument before and it just seems absurd to me, like a convenient way of reassuring oneself you're not overlooking a great player. The more important factor was his amazing long balls, not the recipient.

Anyway now he's gone, it's gonna be Cazorla doing that! All aboard 😉

      1) Don't know. Prob not. Fergie likes Valencia and can include him by playing him at right back.
      2) Looks good except weak defence. I'd upgrade at least one, maybe two of them (rafael & fabio) to swansea (williams) / everton (jags) / arsenal (gibbs) players.

Torres -> Rooney or Lampard -> Michu and Torres -> RVP for a hit?

I will obviously wait until the match tonight before I do anything, but feel RVP will have the best chance for goals and that Lampard is basically not going to be getting anything unless there are a few more penos. He seemed to be playing very deep on Sunday. I could also do Lamp -> Kagawa but that would be a risky move.

I'm reading this quite bemused too! City played a 442 with Nasri and Silva on the flanks...

Could be rotated with Milner and now, possibly Sinclair, but while his form is good, he'll start.

How? Nasri and Silva aren't exactly competing for positions are they?

Adam Johnson will be gone now so I see that as possibly more gametime for Nasri.

I took a punt on Nasri and will hold him, but I'm not sure I would waste a transfer from YYT to Nasri, if that's what you meant?

If you're transferring one of them in, I think Nasri has better upside and will get gametime based on GW1's City lineup.

Tevez for me. Not at all sure about what kind of balance Rooney and RvP will strike.

Too many unanswerables :- pens, free kicks, roles etc.

Wait for a couple of weeks and go for Tevez

Saylor/Santon for the low ownership rate. Preferably Saylor. If you want someone who is nailed on, Colo it is. But he's still injured I assume.

Aguero's injury has quite a few consequences for the FPL season:
    1) When he's available again his price will have lowered, quite possibly to below 11.0. This could be all the difference between having two big forwards and three big forwards
    2) When he's available again the Champions League may well have started, bringing the dreaded striker rotation with it
    3) Balotelli or Dzeko may establish themselves as credible options in the interim
    4) Penalties?

      4) Silva will need to step up his game if he doesn't want Kun coming back as the main taker.
