City Issue Aguero Injury Update

Manchester City have confirmed this afternoon that Sergio Aguero is expected to be sidelined for the next couple of Gameweeks at least. The club’s official website gave Fantasy managers a handy injury update on a trio of their stars earlier this evening, with the Aguero news the most crucial to our transfer planning:

Roberto Mancini revealed the player has undergone knee scans and has since been assessed by medical personnel. The City boss was optimistic over a quick return to action for his star forward, with a possible comeback for the Gameweek 4 trip to Stoke on the cards:

“I don’t think Sergio will be out for long and we are hoping he will be back after the international break which is obviously fantastic news for him and for us. We were very worried a couple of days ago because we feared he could be out for six months or maybe even more which would have been very bad news. It looked like a very strange injury at the time and because it was his knee, we were obviously very concerned so this news is a relief for everybody.”

The news will no doubt speed up the transfers-out over the next few days, with Carlos Tevez the obvious trade. Aguero has already been shipped out by 132, 000 Fantasy managers after he was stretchered off against the Saints on Sunday – Tevez has been acquired by more than 94,000 in anticipation of a possible absence for his compatriot and is on the verge of rising in price for the second time this week in FPL.

Mancini also revealed that Gareth Barry and Micah Richards will remain on the sidelines for the time being. Barry could well join Aguero in returning for the Stoke clash but Richards may be out for a longer period – this promotes Pablo Zabaleta in our Fantasy thinking, with the 6.0 priced Argentine’s role at right-back looking nailed-on until Richards comes back into contention:

“Gareth will also be ready after the international break. “He hasn’t played any games for almost four months and he needs to build his fitness up, but he is training again and I don’t see him being out for any longer than one month and hopefully, maybe just a couple of weeks. Micah’s injury is more serious and he could be out a little longer, but having said that, with rest and the right treatment, we are hopeful he could be ready in about one month, which again would be great news.”

So, I'll ask this again as last time people seemed to think David Silva didn't play in Man City's last game.

Do you guys think Nasri will be less of a rotation risk this season?
Is he a better option than Yaya Toure?

With City seeming to settle on the 4-2-2-2 this offers both Silva and Nasri starting roles unlike last year when Nasri often had to compete with wide midfielders. So yes I'd say Nasri is less of a rotation risk now, might even be touching nailed on. I see him as a better option than Yaya, more consistently advanced, no defensive duties and plenty of efforts on goal. He may even be a better option than Silva.

Yeah, deep down I think we have all mentally downgraded Silva anyway. I'm not sure anyone I know has him. It's not even about tiredness, Mata is in everyone's team

I'd rather have Nasri over Silva, purely because of his lesser price.

lol, I saw some of the comments earlier, didnt even bother to explain things... *s*

Nasri played 2/3 of the season (in minutes) last season, and I really think he could nail on a place.. still some rotation tho to stay fit and rested..
Looks like he is in good form atm, and right now a better option than Yaya imo..

I think Mancini learnt by his mistakes by overplaying David Silva last season, and will more often rotate him. This will offer more minutes for Nasri. Nasri is still less nailed on than Toure, but imo a better option than Toure, especially as he is predictable and a decent captain option.

This has been a funny first gameweek. Most of my team failed to deliver points (Michu saving my score pretty much single-handedly), yet I'm alarmingly comfortable with my team at the moment. Usually by this point I want to make ~15 subs.

rotation is overrated. none of your rotating teammembers would ever be a part of your team long enough to prove the rotation fruitful. At least thats how I play the game, front 8 stay fairly constant and i transfer in the best defensive choice every week

that tactic worked for me last season. I can say that at least 4 our of every 5 transfers were bringing in an expensive defender. The other 4 defenders were extremely cheap nonrotating defenders and i just picked the best 2 of them to play each week. This allowed my front 8 to be very expensive and consistent.

Why would you want your front 8 to be consistent? This isn't a REAL team you know. You try and get in form players, particularly in form attacking players!

It's an interesting strategy, but attacking players and their teams go in and out of form so regularly that I can't see a constant front 8 over three GWs, let alone a season. Most people barely managed two successes from their front 8 this week, it's very hard to pick one for even a single GW.

My front 8 look fantastic to me and i wont be changing them for quite a while.
The only change I see happening is VDV to someone like kagawa incase VDV doesnt start the next 2 matches.

                Michu(fixtures) Yaya(bargain) RobsonKanu(cheap) Lampard(bargain) VDV(big bargain)
                Graham(fixtures) RVP(fixtures) Tevez(bargain)

plus on the bright side, I never have the problem of 'i sold him one week too early' 🙂

Vidic marked him well - Which opened things up for Fellaini and players off him. I'd say it was part of a tactic to occupy their key defender to make space, and not a reflection on Jelly's time on the ball.

If you want the risk, Nasri, if you want to play it safe Yaya. Yaya is more effective at home, or late on in away games when City are not winning and he gets pushed further up. Nasri will only ever play in an advanced position and has started well, but once the CL starts every City player bar Hart, Kompany, Yaya and maybe Lescott (and Zabs if Richards isn't fit) will be subject to rotation

Good answer, thanks JK. I suppose right now is the time to have Nasri if I'm going to do it. I do prefer to play it safe though so Yaya would be my option for the majority of the season.

Saying that though, I'll probably end up with Silva again at some point if he starts to show good form again! 😀

It's true but it was broader question. I've taken all that into account but now want to see which out of Yaya or Nasri would be more popular in a poll.

I'm kind of thinking Nasri would outscore Yaya if they both had the same amount of gametime, but the thing is they probably won't.

I agree with that. Exactly what I said above. Nasri will bring home bigger scores, but Yaya will play far more minutes. Nasri could be rotated with Milner, Sinclair or even Tevez/Balotelli

who is the Saints defender, Clyne or Fonte?

I'd be more likely to pick them as they're a newly promoted side. They will play without fear as they did v City and teams won't have figured them out yet. Clyne is massively attacking and could grab an assist, Fonte is a threat at corners, especially with the quality that Fox has.

actually this is why i like it...it gets me paying attention to games i possibly wouldnt care less about.

There's a lot of folk looking to this fixture for some love.

I'd happily settle for 0-0. Fed, Cole, Lamps and Guthrie would all benefit. So many with Torres© that it makes little odds for me.

I've been a fantasy football addict for the last few years and been on this site for 3 seasons. This season I've been busy and have taken my eye off the ball a bit. I didn't do nearly as much planning as I'd have liked. I've also done a fantasy draft / auction game which I've focused on but is more long term so I haven't looked closely at rotation and fixtures.

I've ended up with this (after already brining in Michu)

    De Gea Fed
    Zabaleta Cole Clyne Cuellar Demel
    Noble Michu Lamps Kagawa Guthrie
    Tevez Torres Aguero

Not feeling it at all. Do I sit tight, take a 4 point hit or go with an early wildcard?

      Aguero > ? for a 4 point hit.

Then get rid of one of the Chelsea next week and you should be ok, no need to wildcard.

He won't get an assist every week. For 7.5 there are many better options, Graham for one, Petric for 2, Ba for 3, maybe Fletcher as well.

What's this, Vertonghen *and* Rafael didn't play?

Miyaichi is just behind him, but he's looking the other way and is missing a boot.

Clyne last in line, proudly holding on to his solitary point.
