Fantasy Premier League Focus – Gameweek 3

Once again, we take time out to analyse the consequences of another Gameweek in Fantasy Premier League. Looking at the performances of the top five in the Scout League, we also cast an eye the current transfer trends, with bandwagons picking up pace over the international break:

Scout League Standings

Asriel Chen not only remains at the top of the Scout League, he climbs to number one overall in the world – despite transferring out Santi Cazorla as part of a four point hit. The decision to part with the Gunners’ playmaker helped fund a move for Robin Van Persie and with captain Carlos Tevez, Michu, Yaya Toure and Thomas Vermaelen all producing the goods, Asriel boosted his total to an incredible 303 points to proudly sit atop the standings ahead of the two-week international break.

Renior Buffon moves into second place in the Scout League and sixth overall after scoring 81 points in the Gameweek gone by. Captain Van Persie and Tevez were the main protagonists, while Hatem Ben Arfa and Moussa Dembele also chipped in from midfield along with Toure – Renoir will be happy with his wildcard after a strong contribution from the new acquisitions.

Alex Henshaw edges ominously into third place after returning 105 points in Gameweek 3 – the only member of our top five to register triple figures. Six of his front seven – Van Persie, Tevez, Ben Arfa, Michu, Toure and Cazorla – all grabbed goals, while at the back, Ciaran Clark and Guy Demel registered 17 points between them, though he’s yet to acquire Eden Hazard ahead of Chelsea’s trip to QPR next time out.

Moving onto fourth position, we find Kelly Gosson. Once again, the Van Persie-Tevez combination worked wonders, while Toure and Nathan Dyer produced the goods from midfield. Kelly racked up 77 points over Gameweek 3 and sits in 77th overall, with a wildcard now played. Darren O’Connor makes up the top five after returning 64 points last week. Going against general consensus, he opted for Lukas Podolski alongside Tevez up top, while Thomas Vermaelen and Michu also helped boost his tally to 275 points overall – enough to earn 94th place in the FPL standings.

Finally, the Scout Contributors league has a new leader. Big Dunc’s decision to take a four point hit paid off handsomely, with the usual suspects such as Tevez, Van Persie, Toure and Michu, joined by Cazorla and Jermain Defoe, helping Dunc rack up 93 points – he now sits on 240 points overall, and in 9,044 place in the rankings.

The Market Trends

With wildcards continuing to be wielded at a frantic pace, player prices are more volatile than ever. Eden Hazard is the most popular player this week – over 105,000 Fantasy managers have picked up the Chelsea midfielder after a blank Gameweek 3. Hazard has already leapt 0.6 in price and looks set to rise again, with a week and a half still left before the Premier League kicks back into action.

Carlos Tevez is hot on Hazard’s heels, with over 91,000 grabbing the City striker. Tevez has scored in three of his side’s matches so far and has accrued 33 points, more than any forward – that price of 9.8 continues to rapidly escalate. Top scoring player in FPL, Michu shows little sign in slowing down after yet another goal last weekend – the Spaniard has acquired over 83,000 transfers in and has found a place in over 31% of Fantasy teams thanks to his endeavours thus far.

Certainly, it’s no surprise to see Robin Van Persie amongst the most popular players around. With a hat-trick against Southampton, the Dutchman’s steady climb in ownership shows no sign of abating – he’s been snapped up by over 80,000 new owners and is a massive armband favourite for the Gameweek 4 home clash with Wigan.

Elsewhere, Yaya Toure (50,000) and Fernando Torres (46,000) are tempting plenty, while the cut-price route into the Arsenal defence offered by Carl Jenkinson has seen over 70,000 Fantasy managers scramble aboard the bandwagon, despite the imminent return of Bacary Sagna at right-back. Gareth McAuley and Winston Reid have also received significant investment at the back after both returned goals and clean sheets last weekend.

For transfers out, Gareth Bale has taken the biggest hit this week, with over 54,000 Fantasy managers losing faith in the Spurs midfielder. The Welshman’s failure to produce in the first three Gameweeks, despite a kind schedule, has already seen his price drop to 9.4; with (rdg, QPR, AVL) amongst his next four, though, the potential is clearly still there for Bale to produce.

David Silva and Samir Nasri have been sold on by a combined 57,000+ with a sideways move to Yaya Toure offering a cheaper and more consistent alternative in City’s midfield. Many have also lost patience with Shinji Kagawa, despite a home clash with Wigan up next – 30,000 have moved the former Dortmund man on as midfields are drastically re-assembled.

At the back, City’s failure to produce clean sheets has seen many dispose of Gael Clichy and Vincent Kompany’s services, while Sir Alex Ferguson’s decision to drop David De Gea was enough to convince over 20,000 to sell off the United stopper.

Newcastle pair Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse have been slow out the blocks this season and, after a blank apiece against Villa, the Magpies pair have been dismissed by over 64,000 teams. While a Gameweek 4 trip to Everton looks tricky, the following two fixtures – (NOR, rdg) – still look prosperous for Alan Pardew’s side.

The transfers out continue to rack up for Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero. Both could well be huge differentials if they return to action over the next few weeks; at present, they have 6.9% and 6% ownership respectively, compared to Van Persie’s 29.2% and Tevez’s 47.3%.

Anyone who's not from the Balkans, think that Popov is going to walk straight into WBA's defence?

Ridgewell's competition right? Ridgewell has looked quite good so far in a WBA shirt so we'll see if Popov slides into a less familiar spot in the defence possibly

He can play as LW right. He also takes some set pieces and penalties even in Cyprus. Has scored few headed goals too.

I am from the Balkans an gonna say: No he is not gonna walk straight in the team. Maybe something like Raylor - Santon last year?

    So, How is everyone today?

Here are today’s three pictures, this time however they are all from the same place, Mumbai, which was requested last night by Lateriser

    ● Gorai Beach, Mumbai: http://i.imgur.com/yZZ8L.jpg

    ● Slums of Mumbai: http://i.imgur.com/6zXjl.jpg

    ● Upper Gorli, Mumbai: http://i.imgur.com/5nSQy.jpg

There were better looking pictures than the second, but I thought I couldn’t do pictures of Mumbai without including a large view of the slums, especially with the skyscrapers in the background.

The third picture was shot from a restricted abandoned fort inside which, photography was not allowed. The photographer could only take 2 pictures before they threatened to confiscate their camera.

Thanks mate, went topheavy but really want Hazard while possibly keeping Bale. Still have 2.0 in the bank, so can downgrade DDG and Zab to get enough funds to do Noble to Hazard...

Exactly the 2 players I was looking at downgrading, could allow me to do Pienaar to Hazard. I don't think mine is a great move though since Pienaar looks good.

Hazard will surely score a lot more point that Noble. Depends how you rate Nobles prospects??

I've mentally prepared myself for it. Not sure whether I'd by him straight back tbh. On the one hand, it could be a start of a streak, on the the other I think he's too inconsistent for the price and other options.

Remember Nani last year in contrast to 10/11? How many transfers did people use to shift him in and out? How many points did they gain from him?

Spurs have various sources of points. Everything Chelsea do goes through Hazard, everything Arsenal do goes through Cazorla. Everything City do goes through Tevez. Everything Utd do goes through RVP.

Repost since i got only 1 response
    How does my team look?
    Freidel-federici
    Rafael-Fabio-Fonte-Cuellar-hangeland
    Larsson-Cazorla-Hazard-Pienaar-Noble
    RvP-Tevez-Graham

As a Goalie instead of Friedel whom should i get (5.5 and less not 5.6)
I still have 2mill in the bank for a rafael—>7mill big hitter(hopefully vermaeln in gw7)
Still hoping that larsson’s price rises back to 6.5 so i can do Larsson—> AJ

    Am I thinking straight mates?

    Begovic, Jaask

    Demel, Hughes, Baines, Raphael, Cuellar

    Cazorla, Hazard, Maloney, Michu, Nolan

    RVP, Tevez, Lambert

Think is I want Yaya instead of Nolan. Any ideas of how to get the £2m needed? Preferably with keeping the Caz, Haz, RVP, Tevez, Michu, Baines.

Saylor - despite Swansea's good start, I'd still say we're a better side than them and will keep more CS's over the season. Add in Saylor's goal threat and BP magnetism, and he's a better option imo.

Taylor's good in the air, he'll get a few goals whilst the fullbacks will struggle to get any.

And Santon gets forward more than Simpson and is better on the ball and is quicker.

That said, Santon's final ball often lets him down so he doesn't get as many assists as he should.

I don't know about that, but for VFM he's great.

The 4s are rubbish. Demel is injury prone and he's pretty much all there is.

That leaves the 4.5 range and he's the best in that bracket. Hughes, Fig and Wilson are decent, though.

    Adebayor to RVP

Would be for an 8pt hit as ive already done Sigi to Carzola

Cant afford to wait as I wont be able to afford RVP by the time the next transfer week opens.

Would you do it if it were your team?

City plays United at the Etihad on my 21st bday. Too bad it'll be 7am where I'm at. Maybe I'll just get smashed the night before and still be drunk during the match haha.

Indeed. I set one every weekend for 4:45am to catch the early matches. Won't be doing that for Norwich v West Ham haha

    Any Toon fans here?

How nailed on is Santon at LB after Raylor's injury? Does he have competition for the spot? I know Anita can play LB too.

Should be nailed on, turning into a very good full back.

Although should he have a few bad games in a row, Pardew didn't seem to have too much faith in him last season and took him off at half time or benched him a couple of times.

He might have just been taking him out of the firing line for a bit, he's only 21 and has now had a full season getting used to the PL.

So in short, I'd say he's nailed on enough. Though Saylor would be my Toon defender of choice.

Good to see Dembele rising. If he can produce some goals/assists, then he will be a very good differential considering his 7% ownership.
