Watchlist

The Watchlist – Nikica Jelavic

Prior to his arrival at Goodison last January, there were plenty who questioned whether Nikica Jelavic could produce the goods in the Premier League. The Croatian’s superb scoring record for Glasgow Rangers was dismissed by cynics, who deemed the level of Scottish top-flight competition far too lightweight to judge a player’s real potential. Fast forward four months and Jelavic’s Everton record of nine goals from 13 appearances was proof enough that David Moyes, finally, had found a first-class finisher to lead the line for the Merseysiders:

Steven Pienaar’s loan return for the second half of last season also proved critical. With the South African’s left flank understanding with Leighton Baines producing a potent source of creativity which Jelavic was all too happy to feed upon, the Toffees customary climb up the table earned them a seventh place finish. As the lone frontman in Moyes’ favoured 4-5-1, Jelavic, from just 10 starts, had returned 11 bonus points in addition to those nine goals in the Fantasy Premier League games and accrued 69 points; a clear indication of his Fantasy potential.

With Pienaar back on a permanent basis and Marouane Fellaini terrorising defences in support of Jelavic up top, Everton have already beaten United and eased past Villa before succumbing to West Brom at the Hawthorns last weekend. While the midfielders have picked up plenty of suitors thanks to their eye-catching performances, Jelavic has crept under the radar somewhat, despite getting off the mark in the Gameweek 2 win at Villa Park.

In part, it’s down to Robin Van Persie and Carlos Tevez. With FPL managers desperate to install both in their frontlines, the need for a cut-price forward to balance the budget means 8.5 priced Jelavic currently has just 10% ownership. In the Sky Sports game, it’s another matter entirely, though – with just 30 transfers to make over the season, the Croatian is fourth most popular forward thus far – a real show of faith in his consistency.

Moyes will be keen to bounce back from the Baggies loss and, looking at the fixture ticker, Everton have a superb run of fixtures on their agenda over the next couple of months to profit from. Between now and Gameweek 13, Jelavic will welcome (NEW, SOT, LIV, SUN, NOR) to Goodison and with Baines’ creativity, in particular, a real stand out feature of the Toffees play right now, the Croatian could well be in line to rack up the goals and offer a viable value alternative to those brave enough to overlook the services of the free-scoring Manchester duo.

Need some assistance here- will only make transfers after the internationals due to injury potential.

Doing quite well, ranked up at ~18000.

    1. P. Cisse -------> jelavic (or Berba?)

    2. P. Cisse + Podolski ------> RVP + Di Santo/ Pog?

          Current squad:

          Vorm Begovic

          Clichy Rafael A.Cole Gibbs Cuellar

          Michu Yaya Hazard Kacanicklic Coleman

          Tevez P.Cisse Podolski

1.3m in bank, still got the wildcard. Will get rid of Coleman in GW 5 for Routledge.

Tempting, but Sun-Liv will not be a high-scoring game- it will be tight.

Despite Fletch doing so well last week, MON said that he is not 'anywhere near match fit'!!

I might wait on him to heat up, or for a more favourbale fixture.

You lot talk about Laudrup registering a 25 man squad, hence no replacement. As far as i remember, there is a clause for a season-long injury, so a new player can come in.

I know you like Torres, but to me and a lot of others, he's a huge liability.

If you're going to make any transfer, ship Bale and Torres to get RVP and then captain him at home v Wigan. Otherwise hold tight. RVP will only continue to rise in price as he continues to score goals. While Torres will be inconsistent.

RVP is a must for sure. You won't be able to afford him without breaking your team if you don't act soon. I got him at 13.0 and he's 13.4 right now.

Does anyone else look at their FPL player's scores in a sort of accumulative way in order to justify keeping them for another week/keeping the faith longer. For example, if your defender performs really well one week and gets you 10 points, do you, like me think to yourself, ok this means that if he gets me a 2 next week that's 12 over two gameweeks which is roughly the most I could have wished for over 2 gameweeks for a defender (6 and 6 for CS's). Whereas if he outperforms himself again then its simply a bonus. What I am basically saying is that if they keep their average up by over-performing with an assist/goal/Baps you can allow them to get 2's every second week. This all might sound really obvious but I'm just wondering if others think the same way.

P.s I know I'm a little simple, you don't need to point it out.

Thanks, I guess what I'm getting at is that I do this to stop myself knee-jerking. It's very easy to apply this thinking with defenders as your general hope is they get 6 at least a week. So 12-18 over a 3 week period is good form and a 2 may not always be enough to panic over if you know they will outperform every 2/3 weeks.

Hi I’m new here and thinking about using my WC and wondering if you guys have any tips? Just discovered how helpful the comments are, fair play to everyone

    Current team:
    DDG, Rudd
    Coloccini, Clyne, Kompany, Rafael, A.Cole
    De Guz, Michu, Kags, Yaya
    Ade, Tevez, Pog

Been reading these replies and think WC is best option, What do you think of:
    Foster, Jussi
Demel, Ridgewell, S Taylor, Clyne, Davies
    Michu, Hazard, Cazorla, Sterling, Barfa
    Fletcher, Tevez, RVP

A reply would be much appreciated

Your wc team is obviously better but you have a decent team anyway. If you wc now you need to get the price rises to make t worth it. You've already missed a few so if your not bothered about religiously checking prices to make the mst of it I would say hold on to your wc.

Thanks, its just that IMO RVP and Hazard are the 'must haves'. Im trying to fit baines into my WC team with little success, is he really worth it at 7.1? Cos I'm wary of having defs and gks at the lower teams

I think rvp is a must and baines and hazard are worth it. It's up to you. What I'm saying is many people wc now cause the international break allows you to make lots of transfers and increase the value of your team. If your not doing hat I'd hold onto it because there'll be better weeks to use it. Eg. Come march/April there could be a week with lots of double game week teams playing. Having a wc then could be more valuable.

Thanks for the advice really appreciate it. I played my WC because i needed RVP and Hazard. Not having them would only make me fall further behind. I dont really follow the price rises much tbh I never really thought about it. Would you be able to shed some light on the logistics and how to use the price rises to my advantage?:) Id be very grateful.

Fiso.co.uk and totalfpl.com show you when individual players prices will rise or fall. They are 95% accurate approx. Fiso seem better this season so far. Say you have Torres and yo want rvp, by checking his price you don't ave to make the transfer immediately. Do it when he's on 90%. That way you ay miss out on him getting injured in training later in the week for eg before buying him. Now you've wc you could buy and sell lots of payers to make money. If you buy someone and he goes up .2, when you sell him you make .1 so you can make approx 1m in this window if your lucky. It doesmt matter who you buy as long as you end up with the team you want. Hope this helps

Ok thanks a million, I think i get it after reading the fiso CTC faqs 🙂 So I probably paid more than I would for these players a few days ago, but less if I had done if I waited a few days 🙂 And yeah I get the money making thing too but it seems very hard to work with 😛
