The ScoutCast – Episode Eighty Three – Kids

The latest episode, created mid-afternoon today, was not recorded amidst a playground, although, at times, the background noise and smutty innuendo would suggest as much.

While the fruit of our loins play merrily in adjacent rooms, Granville and I retire to find some quiet and systematically pull apart another week of Fantasy football with all the usual regulars thrown in. Granville has a 22-point lead to show for his efforts, while I’m doing all I can to remain calm after what can best be described as a false start. The green arrows are coming. Surely they’re coming?

Right, regarding the Suarez still can't finish stereotype. Certainly suffered from that last year. Just used the compare tool to compare 2011/2012 Suarez to 2012/2013 Suarez. He's absolutely thrashing last year's Suarez, leading in 7/10 key stats and 77% of all stats. His play is quite similar, but he's having more attempts on goal. Most importantly, the percentage of shots scored has gone up from 8.6% to 13.9%. So his finishing has improved. Perhaps the quality of chances has improved - instead of the ball being constantly crossed and hoofed under Dalglish, he's getting passes to feet that are easier to convert.

True, his finishing was absolutely exemplary in the Norwich game. Just compared Suarez GW6 against Suarez GW1-5. In GW6 50% of his shots were on target and 50% went in - ie. every shot on target went in! The good news is that his shots per game were identical in GW1-5, and his penalty box shots per game very close.

Looks a different player this season.. court case out of the way, happier on and off the pitch. Don't over analyse it imo, treat Suarez as though you're seeing him for the first time. Not many complete strikers in his league.

Yep, just treating him as another striker. I remember on the morning of last Saturday I decided to get Tevez and injured Berbatov out, and did compare tool comparisons for all of the options - Fletcher, Jelavic, Ba, Suarez, Lambert. Suarez and Lambert came out on top and were tied against each other. Seeing their fixtures I got them both in.

Ha, I did the same! Had to do a double take when I saw Lambert's involvement and stats AWAY at Everton. Looks promising for this week and the Fulham game.

I'm pretty content with Ba and Suarez, so would have to lose RVP to bring in Lambert or Berbatov now (am sorely tempted tbh).

Great minds... says something about Lambert that I was disappointed not to see him score away at Everton, a place United couldn't score at with RVP, Rooney, Kagawa and Nani.

Ba may well be fixture proof... it is some regret to me that I didn't have the faith to get him. Will use the saved money to get another elite midfielder in hopefully.

The nagging question for me is whether to double up on the insane Southampton attack with Ramirez...

Ba at 7.5m was, frankly, ridiculous value... couldn't wait to get him in after Newcastle's tough 2 opening fixtures to the season. 🙂

Regarding Southampton, I can see goals (especially at home) but surely Lambert is the stand out value pick? 6m edges into Pienaar territory (at his starting price, anyway) who should offer greater returns with better players around him.

Am really enjoying the choice of players this year, and how fixtures sometimes play out over form (Liverpool @Norwich). Got burnt last season bringing in players against a weak defence only for a surprise result.

I don't agree with your conclusions on Liverpool. Have been watching the "Being: Liverpool" show and been mightily impressed with Brendan Rodgers man management. He has a lot of average or very young layers there, and it's going to take time.

Thing is, even though Liverpool haven't been getting the results, there football and possession has been better. It's a work in progress but Luis Suarez is already benefitting.

I know this has been debated a lot , but since I'm thinking of wc over break I'd like any opinions on dropping Rvp .
Put simply because of his price , there's at least 5m to be saved by dropping down to Jelly / Ba / Fletch / Berbatov , No rotation , all nailed on for 90 mins when fit and the funds saved can you access to access to some more quality Mf / Df .
Surely your cumulative score say of 3 quality players eg Cole/ Pinnear/ Berbatov (20.4m) scores more than Clyne / Noble / Rvp (22,4) these are just typical examples and I even think you can still upgrade the first scenario or add it on elsewhere.
Admittedly he's always a decent capt choice but we've already seen him rested/rotated IMO his current price is more suited to when he was at Arsenal and the team was built around him. Rvp at united should be valued at 12 m I believe.

What about when Rvp hits a hat-trick and 30% of all players have him as captain? Just some food for thought.

I do like the 3 better players option though. I won't drop Rvp now as he is my best united cover, but if i was wc'ing it would be a good thing to consider.

True that... it is gonna be something too look into when my WC comes around but if he is still gonna provide me with goals and assists I aint complaining, since having him in I have been going up the rankings, and I dont think my team has suffered too much around him.

With Rooney dropping deeper, he is going to be almost a lone forward for Man u so could generate large points return. I see your logic but he is the only player you could almost captain every week regardless of fixtures and expect a return. All those other options are likely to have dry goal scoring period and RVP didnt last year. That why he is so expensive, which is good in one way as everyone would have him if he is 12m

I don't disagree with what your saying in the slightest in fact all the above makes sense , and that's my problem - " trying to decide " on Van in a wildcatd team or not ?
I've been wc both ways and of I'm honest I'm slightly edging towards non -rvp team as it seems to have less filler if you get me , but I'm still not 100% there's definatley a niggling doubt.

Who is your united coverage in a non Rvp team though? Kagawa? He will hardly be consistent and might be favored for UCL games i think (because of SAF's seeming preference for a passing game in europe) meaning he might miss a few league games.

So planning my transfers ahead of time. Looking at 2 options for big team front 7 coverage. Let me know your thoughts on each option please:

    A) Bale / Mata / Gerviniho / Silva
    Rvp / Fletcher / Lambert

    B) Bale / Nolan / Gerviniho / Silva
    Rvp / Torres / Lambert

    C) Kacaniklic / Nolan / Cazorla / Hazard
    Rvp / Defoe / Aguero

I have sterling as my 5th mid. Not a fan of any other Liverpool coverage for now. Have Baines for Everton.

Vertonghen? Dunno how much you'd have to spend on the defender after getting Suarez, but Vermaelen, Kompany, or Vertonghen are the best options IMO

I think just do tevez to Suarez for now. Don't take the hit as sunderland are likely to be very defensive away to City this week.

Then drop lescott next week due to his rotation issues. Not sure who to replace him with. But you might want to go cheap and upgrade your mid.

(I don't back suarez to be consistent at all though btw, but that is your choice)

Still, i think Lescott will probably get 6 points this weekend (although as a united fan with family supporting sunderland I hope not 😛 ).

Next week you can maybe use those 2 transfers and see what happens over the international break. Never know, big injuries could occur.

Nay, your team does look pretty good. I think haz and tevez might be good options to transfer out (for their teammates), as seen in my above post. But that is really a matter of opinion. If you are happy with those 2 then just stick with your team i think.

I would leave it and enjoy the fact that you can afford to do so!

Mannone lost out the minute Shez was fit so you dont want to be stuck with a keeper that doesn't play. I have been tinkering with my team since wk2 and I think next week is the first time, I can start looking at transfer in rather than having to get rid of people, queue injuries this weekend.
