The Weekend Team News

Alan Pardew reveals Demba Ba’s shin injury “looks fine” ahead of Sunday’s clash with former club West Ham. Nani is ruled out for the next 10 days for United, while Jonny Evans remains a doubt for tomorrow’s trip to Villa Park.

Roberto Di Matteo has confirmed John Terry is in a “good position” to be involved for Sunday’s game with Liverpool, though the clash is “probably too soon” for Ashley Cole.

David Platt took over press conference duties for City today and revealed David Silva, Joleon Lescott and Maicon are “all available for selection at this moment in time” ahead of Spurs’ visit on Sunday.

James Collins and James Tomkins face fitness tests for the Hammers, though Guy Demel will return to the squad, according to Sam Allardyce.

All today’s news has been collected and rolled out along with our predicted lineups, over in the team news section.

We’ll continue the updates up until the eleventh hour, with tomorrow’s Pre-Match preamble offering the teamsheet views from the press.

As always, keep an eye on our Twitter feed for the very latest.

Ibra gets a decent number of assists to go with loads of goals. Having watched him every week for two seasons I know he does a great deal for the team, despite his whining.

Am I blind or are there no stats concerning what the opponent does during the games in the custom stats tables? I would like to look at teams who deserve clean sheets but aren't getting them, so a "shots conceded inside box" would be kind of obligatory.

Yes, we need to add those. I've had Ed full-time on the comments system but I'll get him to have a look at that on Monday. Won't take long to add.

Have you guys done some research on how to predict clean sheets based on stats. I find it really difficult. For example United last season conceded a lot of shots but still got a ton of CS. Chelsea and Arsenal Liverpool on the other hand were an opposite if I remember correctly.

The stats only tell you so much. A team can restrict their opponent to a lot of shots outside the box. In this case the stats would suggest a leaky defence but in reality none of the shots were threatening.

As always, its better to work out which teams are solid defensively from watching them play.

I agree, that is what I have been doing so far. But as a firm believer in stats, I think there must be some way to work out a formula. 😀

Its very simplistic but clean sheets in previous seasons, split home and away, is useful for reference.

Many people will double up Stoke defense this GW but i see QPR will do something there...

    - QPR's last win away from Loftus Road was at the Britannia
    - Stoke were also the only team that Rangers did the double over last season and that statistic, coupled with QPR's excellent record in the Potteries – four wins from their last six visits

          expect nothing then 😉

Seriously, question to ask is does your rivals all have him? If so you'll lose ground each week when he bangs them in.

You can't expect him to not score each week, the guy's in his prime and a goal machine playing for a quality team who lay it on a plate.

He is very unlikely to start , might come down to the 1st sub.
Whom do you think should be 1st sub ?

I wonder how many of these posters going on about how essential RVP is are the same ones claiming he wasn't worth the money a few weeks ago

I've seen a few completely change their mind. Owner and defender of his value since GW2 here.

Keep Defoe or ditch for Ba? Defoe on form but tough fixture. Ba only jus back from injury but gd fixture.

Have i got my bench right?

Im kindof stuck playing ivanovic due to his early expoits.

    Begovic (Jaaskelainen)

    Baines - Ivanovic - Rafael - Simpson (R Nelson)

Cazorla - Fellaini - Ben Arfa ( Sterling - Granero)

    RVP - Ba - Berbatov
