Scout Scribbles – International Round Up

Luis Suarez grabs a goal and a pair of assists in Uruguay’s win over Poland. Juan Mata provides an assist in Spain’s rout of Panama before making way at half-time, Christian Benteke is amongst the goals again for Belgium, while Sergio Aguero plays the full 90 minutes in Argentina’s goalless draw with Saudi Arabia. Here’s a quick round-up of last night’s game time for the Premier League protagonists:

Luis Suarez’s scintillating form shows little sign of letting up. He had a hand in all three of Uruguay’s goals last night, providing two assists and scoring the third in a 3-1 win in Poland. With a home clash against Wigan on the agenda, he’s already been snapped up in huge numbers – having come through last night’s match without injury, more investment can be expected.

Spain’s 5-1 win in Panama saw Juan Mata maintain his recent form by supplying an assist for his side’s third just prior to half-time –his Fantasy owners will be delighted to hear he was given just 45 minutes and was replaced at the break. Santi Cazorla’s owners will be even happier to discover the Arsenal playmaker was an unused sub last night, though both face a long-haul flight back home.

Having opened the scoring for Spurs at City last Sunday, Steven Caulker demonstrated his eye for goal by grabbing England’s second in last night’s 4-2 defeat by Sweden. Danny Welbeck also found the net for the visitors, while Jonas Olsson, Seb Larsson and Alex Kacaniklic all started for the hosts.

England Starting XI: Hart, Johnson (Jenkinson 75), Cahill, Caulker (Shawcross 75), Baines, Gerrard (Huddlestone 75), Osman, Cleverly (Wilshere 62), Sterling (Zaha 84), Welbeck, Young (Sturridge 61)

Newcastle’s Yohan Cabaye was an unused sub in France’s 2-1 win in Italy. Reports suggest the midfielder is now doubtful for the Magpies weekend home clash due to a groin problem sustained in last Sunday’s home defeat by West Ham. Hugo Lloris, Laurent Koscielny, Patrice Evra and Olivier Giroud all started for France, with the latter subbed off just after the hour mark ahead of Saturday lunchtime’s north London derby. Mario Balotelli played the full 90 for the beaten hosts.

Newcastle fans will be pleased to hear Cheick Tiote came through unscathed in Ivory Coast’s 3-0 win in Austria. Yaya and Kolo Toure both featured for the visitors – the latter was handed a 20 minute sub appearance in a match than also saw Villa’s weekend goal hero Andreas Weimann climb off the bench for the hosts.

Villa’s Christian Benteke continued his eye-catching recent form with Belgium’s opener in a surprise 2-1 defeat away to Romania. Simon Mignolet, Vincent Kompany, Jan Vertonghen and Marouane Fellaini were also amongst the starters for the beaten side, while West Brom’s Romelu Lukaku replaced Benteke just before the hour mark.

Sergio Aguero, Fabricio Coloccini and Pablo Zabaleta all played the entire match in Argentina’s bore draw with Saudi Arabia – the most notable event being the a debut for Wigan’s Franco Di Santo. The latter’s team mate Jean Beausejour started for Chile at home to Serbia; the visitors won 3-1, with Branislav Ivanovic and Matija Nastasic playing from start to finish – and Aleksandar Kolarov was withdrawn at half-time. West Brom’s Gonzalo Jara also featured for the hosts, while United’s new forward Angelo Henriquez climbed off the bench to notch his side’s consolation.

Brede Hangeland came through the full 90 minutes for Norway as they clinched a 2-0 win in Hungary. Fulham team mate Mark Schwarzer also played the full game as Australia triumphed 2-1 in South Korea, while Liverpool’s Nuri Sahin was subbed off five minutes from the end of Turkey’s home draw with Denmark.

Germany’s goalless draw with Holland saw a couple of Premier League centre-halves go head-to-head. Ron Vlaar and Per Mertesacker played the full match, while Lukas Podolski made an 18-minute sub appearance for the Joachim Lowe’s side. Spurs’ Emmanuel Adebayor scored the only goal in Togo’s win over Morocco.

West Ham’s Winston Reid was handed 77 minutes in New Zealand’s 1-1 draw with China, while Russia’s home clash with USA saw two Premier League regulars feature. Mark Schwarzer lasted the full match and Stoke’s Geoff Cameron was replaced after 87 minutes. Shola Ameobi made his debut for Nigeria in a 3-1 win over Venezuela, furthering his chances of appearing in this January’s African Cup of Nations.

After several midweek call-offs, Scotland fielded three Premier League players for last night’s win in Luxembourg, with Darren Fletcher, Steven Whittaker and Steven Naismith all playing the full match.

Republic of Ireland handed four Premier League players the full 90. John O’Shea, Ciaran Clark and Seamus Coleman featured in defence in the 1-0 home defeat by Greece, while James McClean was afforded a chance on the flank. The likes of Glenn Whelan, James McCarthy and Shane Long were subbed off in the second-half, while Wes Hoolahan was handed a chance to impress from the bench.

Northern Ireland drew 1-1 at home with Azerbaijan in a World Cup qualifier. Gareth McAuley, Aaron Hughes, Chris Baird, Shane Ferguson, Chris Brunt and Steven Davis all came through unscathed. Elsewhere in World Cup qualifiers, Ali Al Habsi and Maya Yoshida went head-to-head, as Oman lost 2-1 at home to Japan.

Chelsea’s trio of Brazilians – Ramires, David Luiz and Oscar all started in Brazil’s 1-1 draw with Columbia. While the former pair played the full 90, Oscar was subbed off with three minutes remaining. Man City’s Edin Dzeko and Stoke’s Asmir Begovic turned out for Bosnia in a farce of a game in Algeria, played out on a waterlogged pitch – the visitors eventually won the game in the final minute.

No idea what to do. Ranging from banking it (as it's not the worst team for the week) through to 8 point hits to get in Suarez/Berba/Others

      Could easily be banked.

Otherwise, if Mata looks like he could be rested, you could downgrade to Fellaini, and upgrade Crouch (to whom is subject to how much money that would leave you).

      No panics overall though.

I agree, that's what I mean - look to ditch Mata ONLY IF it looks like he will be missing this weekend.

I think he'll play TBH, but the long flight, plus the important midweek Juventus away game puts a small doubt in my mind.

I've only missed out once this season. On Sterling's biggest haul. Wasn't a biggie though since pretty much all of my rivals missed it too. Concentrating more on my ml than the overall game. I am currently doing ok overall, but I think it'll chancge 😉

Really starting to consider Ba to Suarez for a hit...

I know it's ludicrous but Suarez is in a real purple patch. Was planning to get him in GW15 but he has Wigan at home and looks fixture proof as well. Also, his price will only rise unitl then...

Having said that, Ba is still the Newcastle's most prominent avenue to goal and has ridiculously good fixtures starting from this GW.

What to do, what to do...

I keep telling myself that but he could most definitely go BANG this week.
        This would mean two things:

        1. Miss out on a big point haul that would well and truly justify the hit
        2. A guaranteed 0.3m rise next week and probably the week after as well

Good on ya, would be a good position to be in.

I wouldn't say he has been disastrous though. As I said, Ba is still Newcastle's best bet for a goal and his form has looked worse because of his injury. Then again, Suarez is absolutely dominating at the moment and his price is skyrocketing..

the fact BA has swansea at home means he could easily outscore suarez without taking into account the 4pt hit.

I don't normally ask for opinions on who to play - this may explain my rank of over 100,000 - that or all the transfers!

Anyway my dilemma is 2 out of Demel, Shawcross, Hughes.
Begovic and Baines have the other two places.

At the moment I have Demel on the bench as he is not guaranteed to start.
    is this the right move?

Depends if you want to double up on stoke away. Wait for team news, but if Demel doesn't start he isn't likely to come off the bench so your sub will come on anyway.

      Small chance.

I also have him, so I'm hoping he holds on, and then gets some points to stave off the wolves.

People who can afford it are swapping Pienaar ---> Fellaini, which is understandable, but also doesn't mean that Pienaar is a bad pick if he's all you can afford.

He may drop in price this game week. I can totally understand if people have the £ they will get in Fellaini as he is on absolute fire. BUT pienaar will get in among the points regularly. Well at least i hope. I am sticking with him at the moment.

                  Not cheating? NOT CHEATING?!

He stopped a ball going into his goals with HIS HANDS! That is breaking the rules, therefore cheating. It wasn't accidental or reaction based, it was not in the spirit of the game.

"Everyone else in that situation would've done the same thing" So all football players don't like winning by fair means? That is simply not true...

Diving is cheating and is far worse because you are attempting to deceive the ref in order to get a fellow professional booked.

Cheating is trying to deceive the referee. It is no more cheating than a foul. It was against the rules and he was punished accordingly. If your team was going to get knocked out of the world cup and the ball was right next to you, you would stop it if it meant your team had a chance of progressing.

Have exactly the same strikeforce and Tevez(c) is tempting. If he starts with Dzeko then Tevez will have spot-kicks until Balotelli/Aguero come on.

In fairness it's a good problem to have and they all could score around 10pts.

    Morning/afternoon/evening all.

Can't help but feel I've got myself in a bit of a pickle. This is my front 8, after I just got in Silva and Cuellar for Kightly and Vermaelen

    Silva Hazard HBA Morrison Sterling
    RVP Jelavic Berbs

I have 0.6m, but a bit worried by my lack of Arsenal and Spurs attacking cover. Is it essential? I know I can do Hazard > Mata as the latter is becoming more and more essential, then there's the likes of Michu, Fellaini & Nolan who are scoring well. No FT left this week.

    Should I be worried?

Thanks guys, I'm happy for this week, but beyond that should I be thinking of switching it up? Btw, bench Sterling over Morrison?

nothing you can do now i guess. just leave it and see what happens on the weekend. I assume you'll be bench rotating sterling/morrison? why not do Morrison > maloney and upgrade hba next week. will give u a 3rd elite.

Arsenal and Spurs cover are not essential at all. At least one of Michu/Fellaini/Nolan is fairly essential long term but you can easily bring one in for HBA after the good fixtures.

Aside from the Michu/Sterling dilemma, does this team look ok for this week?

    Jaaskelainen
    Cameron - Hangeland - Baines
    Pienaar - Sterling - Silva - Bale
    Ba - Berbatov - Van Persie (c)

    Federici - Michu - Cuellar - Rangel

Havent been able to crowbar suarez into my front 3 (ba/RVP/berb). So as a compromise i've just backed him to be top goalscorer in the premiership this year 🙂 he's 5/1 on ppower for anyone interested. That should take the sting out of his goals from now on from a personal perspective... Although assists may be a spanner in the works

5/1 is a good price i think btw, he'll surely be in the shake-up come may.

I'm in a similar boat, though just for this weekend. Playing Sterling over Morrison, so will stick £5 on Morrison anytime goalscorer 🙂

On that note, im considering morrison>silva for a FT... morrison has served me well fornthe 6 weeks ive ownednhim but am getting temptedmto upgrade him now that aguero>berb has improved my budgetbsituation...

Whats the prognosisnon morrisson long term, will he score well?

I'm not the best person to ask, though what I will say is he is pretty central to everything West Brom do at the moment. BUT they aren't gonna score loads and loads of goals this season, where City will. I plan to remove Morrison too in the near future, for someone with more firepower who can last the season,

pick 2 out of following 3 that you would want long term:

    felliani
    michu
    nolan

You can play Fellaini and Michu ever week and have high expectations, Nolan, despite last week, is mostly a big game player at home. I expect the former 2 to hit 15 goals each this season.

Very tricky. I think long term I'd have Michu and Nolan because they're more natural goalscorers. Fellaini is tearing it up at the moment but I don't expect it to last.

        michu felliani bale mata nolan
