The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Tuesday

Sunderland seal a crucial win over Reading to drag themselves out of the drop zone. James McClean and Steven Fletcher grab the first-half goals, while Stephane Sessegnon leaves his Fantasy owners frantic before finally slotting home a late third.

On the Up

Stephane Sessegnon
Over 68,000 FPL managers drafted in the Benin international prior to the double Gameweek deadline – Steven Fletcher, Adam Johnson and James McClean had a combined tally of around 36,000. With seconds to go, we were cursing our luck as it seemed he was to disappoint but Sessegnon duly delivered to put a smile on plenty Fantasy managers’ faces. With United, City, Spurs and Liverpool in his next five, though, many will be already planning an exit.

Steven Fletcher
Martin O’Neill was particularly cagey over the forward’s chances of starting tonight after his recent ankle injury. Fletcher missed out against Chelsea at the weekend but managed to shrug off the problem to notch his seventh strike of the season. Now up to 74 points in FPL, he’s ahead of the likes of Wayne Rooney but the above-mentioned run of upcoming fixtures is likely to deter many more from investing.

Adam Johnson
The former City man benefitted from an “FPL” assist earlier this evening. A corner from Johnson was cleared by the visitors defence but only as far as James McClean – the winger’s converted attempt boosted his fellow wide man’s double Gameweek haul. Johnson has now produced attacking returns in five of his last seven appearances, though his owners were denied the chance of further points after he was subbed off at half-time with a leg problem.

James McClean
Prior to the double Gameweek, the winger had managed a single assist all season and had started just two of Sunderland’s previous six. Having provided an assist for Adam Johnson’s consolation against Chelsea at the weekend, he needed just one minute to open his account for the season and suggest he’s starting to come into form after a poor first half of the campaign.

Going Down

Kaspars Gorkss
As expected, Sean Morrison failed to recover from the ankle injury sustained against Southampton last weekend. Surprisingly, though, it was Alex Pearce who was given the nod to start alongside Adrian Mariappa, suggesting the Latvian has slipped even further down the pecking order for a spot at centre-half.

Phil Bardsley
Having started the previous six, his place at right-back seemed assured since recovering from a hamstring injury. It was something of a surprise, then, to see Bardsley dropped to the bench, with Craig Gardner preferred at right-back instead. He came on after the break to replace the injured Johnson but lasted just 31 minutes before limping off injured.

Sunderland Injuries
Martin O’Neill has plenty concerns ahead of the weekend trip to United. Danny Rose joined Johnson and Bardsley in limping off – in a defensive reshuffle, Carlos Cuellar finished the match at right-back as Titus Bramble entered the fray at centre-half. If the injuries are carried into the weekend, Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney owners will be even more confident of returns.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Kinda regret doing early transfer in order to save a mere 0.1 🙁

Did fletch to defoe before city vs man u match. Probably should have done sess to sub 5 and fletch to rooney to get rid of 2 DGW players with just a single hit.

Now gotta live with a front trio of suarez, rvp, and defoe haha

Every gameweek is a learning journey lol.

my rule is never do an early transfer unless you cannot afford it due to rises/falls etc.

you never know how the week will turn out and suddenly players are flagged etc.

Mata over Torres for me........Torres is far from a reformed character. Okay four in two games but he's had this false horizons before. I need to see about four or five games of goals before i'll properly consider him.

Great score & great rank TL.

I'm also now looking to ship See, but not sure Taarabt is the answer. I've now started two season with him and also had him two or three seperate times during the same seasons. He has never delivered for me.

He is so hit & miss - one decent score in ten at best - proceed with caution, is all I'd say. Better (safer) players out there...

I suppose i should really get Fellani in , however that would rule out Torres or any otehr Chelsea coverage.
Problem is having Sterling Michu Bale and Carzola kind of rules out a chelsea mid.
Once Arsenals favourable fixtures out the way Carzola to Mat might be best bet

I'm probably going to go for Caz to Mata next week......., seems like a bit of a wasted transfer but on last nights performance, Arsenal have real problems now and their easy fixtures don't even convince me.

I'm also concerned Santi might get rested soon. Don't know why...just do

Yes , more i think about it Carzola to Mata looks good , avoids the need to bring in Torres and dosent add to the midfield budget.
Might not make a transfer this week , then with two to play with next week the situation should be much clearer

That Sess goal in the last minute of the GW basically saved me. Mignolet picked up his CS, Cuellar a CS & assist and Sess the 8pts (non capt).

Right now to start offloading all of them, I've had enough of Sunderland I think....oh and Gorkss also.

Anyone else contemplating getting rid of expensive defenders to ensure cash is spent in attack for the holiday period? Looking at the leader boards on FPL and I am struck how the bands of pts distribution are so tightly packed between defenders vs. how spread out they are in attack:

Leading Forward RVP is 35 pts ahead of tenth place Long
Leading Mid Michu is 35 pts ahead of seventh place Nolan
Leading Defender Ivanovic is 35 pts ahead of 47th place Gallas

To me, this strongly suggests getting as much money as possible on the elite attackers, 78-80m, especially with weather and rotation, since 23-25m should get you a near elite defense.

What exactly is the rationale for big hitting defenders again, since with bad weather clean sheets will be on the rise across the league? Is it chasing OOPness or spot kick duties? Or is it with Michu, Fellaini, and Puncheon/Sterling, we have the money to spend?

Last season spawned the era of cheap defs ftw with possibly maybe 1 big hitter and I've continued it this time round

I'm usually a fan of big defs in previous seasons but times a changing in the PL with everyone conceding left right and center..

Cheap defense and all out attack is the way forward so far this season... the big boys will tighten up a but but don't think it's that necessary to invest in them totally yet

        Here is my thinking.

        Foster(should be back)/Federice
        Enrique/Cuellar/Cameron/Hughes/RBennett.
        Michu/Fellaini/Caz/Sterling/McAanuf
        RVP/Suarez/Fletcher

        3.5 bank

        1. Decided that i am sticking with Fletcher until after sot match GW19
        2. I really want Mata in GW18 but i need to raise 0.5
        3. to do this, would either mean Enrique > Sagna or Cuellar>4.0

        Any suggestions?

Does it seem like Mancini seems to favour Clichy over Kolarov most of the time?

      komps - big head

      nasty - nice price

clichy - seems to be doing the main LB dutues

      zab - very decent fello

I personally wouldn't want to touch their defense. Too much rotation. Nastasic seems to be as nailed on as it gets now. Clichy as well - even if Kolarov plays, he plays midfield. I don't think Clichy has not started a game that he has been healthy for in a long time.

Of course. Kolarov can't defend. Clichy will start 99% of the time unless he is injured/unavailable.

Nastasic for me. He seems intriguing...no real attacking threat to speak of but cheap enough and access to City's strong CS potential.

Tevez on 71% on Fiso to rise. Must monitor prior to the deadline...if Bale is healthy I will do Sess >> Bale, if he is not, thinking of Fletch >> Tevez.

      really annoying owning mccartney/demel

I think McCartney is the main LB with O'Brian taking the RB... Demel seemed to be getting dropped since his injury for the RB spot...

not 100% but that's what I think... Glenn Johnson was goin mental on the LB the last game maybe that's why Sam swapped? no idea though
