The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Tuesday

Sunderland seal a crucial win over Reading to drag themselves out of the drop zone. James McClean and Steven Fletcher grab the first-half goals, while Stephane Sessegnon leaves his Fantasy owners frantic before finally slotting home a late third.

On the Up

Stephane Sessegnon
Over 68,000 FPL managers drafted in the Benin international prior to the double Gameweek deadline – Steven Fletcher, Adam Johnson and James McClean had a combined tally of around 36,000. With seconds to go, we were cursing our luck as it seemed he was to disappoint but Sessegnon duly delivered to put a smile on plenty Fantasy managers’ faces. With United, City, Spurs and Liverpool in his next five, though, many will be already planning an exit.

Steven Fletcher
Martin O’Neill was particularly cagey over the forward’s chances of starting tonight after his recent ankle injury. Fletcher missed out against Chelsea at the weekend but managed to shrug off the problem to notch his seventh strike of the season. Now up to 74 points in FPL, he’s ahead of the likes of Wayne Rooney but the above-mentioned run of upcoming fixtures is likely to deter many more from investing.

Adam Johnson
The former City man benefitted from an “FPL” assist earlier this evening. A corner from Johnson was cleared by the visitors defence but only as far as James McClean – the winger’s converted attempt boosted his fellow wide man’s double Gameweek haul. Johnson has now produced attacking returns in five of his last seven appearances, though his owners were denied the chance of further points after he was subbed off at half-time with a leg problem.

James McClean
Prior to the double Gameweek, the winger had managed a single assist all season and had started just two of Sunderland’s previous six. Having provided an assist for Adam Johnson’s consolation against Chelsea at the weekend, he needed just one minute to open his account for the season and suggest he’s starting to come into form after a poor first half of the campaign.

Going Down

Kaspars Gorkss
As expected, Sean Morrison failed to recover from the ankle injury sustained against Southampton last weekend. Surprisingly, though, it was Alex Pearce who was given the nod to start alongside Adrian Mariappa, suggesting the Latvian has slipped even further down the pecking order for a spot at centre-half.

Phil Bardsley
Having started the previous six, his place at right-back seemed assured since recovering from a hamstring injury. It was something of a surprise, then, to see Bardsley dropped to the bench, with Craig Gardner preferred at right-back instead. He came on after the break to replace the injured Johnson but lasted just 31 minutes before limping off injured.

Sunderland Injuries
Martin O’Neill has plenty concerns ahead of the weekend trip to United. Danny Rose joined Johnson and Bardsley in limping off – in a defensive reshuffle, Carlos Cuellar finished the match at right-back as Titus Bramble entered the fray at centre-half. If the injuries are carried into the weekend, Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney owners will be even more confident of returns.

    Unreal are you asleep?

Some win for Sunderland today. Both in FPL terms and in real life. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would come out with 34 points form that game.

Now, this weekend will be a bigger test 😀 Especially with SAF speaking all this crap...

If Sunderland's fixtures weren't utter garbage from now on, I would've brought in Cuellar instead of Shorey and captained the fecker.... *sigh*

He only had Cuellar, but that was enough... 🙁

Now that is a DGW that actually inspires confidence. A big team and a very attacking team....yes please.

Yo Pepin, great night all round. 🙂 Very convincing win against an admittedly poor Reading team. But what struck me was the gulf between us. I think we showed we have enough class to get through this dog-fight at the bottom.

We might just pull off a surprise this weekend...confidence can mean a lot to a side and there is certainly more belief after a performance and result like that.

intrigued by Mata. Haven't had him yet this season, a little put off by Rafa's reputation for rotation (and evidence of it, though with a small sample size). I have Walcott and Sess from some short-term thinking, and I have the cash to do Bale and Mata before the busy season. Set on Bale, but Mata?

Yer this week by week game I'm only just coming to grips with. After chels blank though I would start Mata as I don't think he will be rotated. Walcot and Bale are good. Mata is great. imo

he really shouldn't be rotated, and maybe he wont be. Rafa seems to like Moses though. Maybe he sees him as a Nigerian Dirk Kuyt. 'Nother mouth to feed.

Even in a week-to-week game, the long view tends to win out, and Mata on paper should be safe... may give him the nod if I see another 90 mins

I was thinking of cutting Ridgewell for Popov if he was out for a while. Also considering Ba-> Berba but not too sure theres value in Berba's fixtures if he not on form

no.....give him more than just this week. ARS next 5 games are mouth watering. He is pretty much nailed on. your expectation should be 3G's over that stretch. More would be great, less a failure. I think he will come good.

For similar reasons, i went suarez. My final reason for selecting him is that he makes me sick every time he scores, so at least it will ease the pain if i own him. That wonderful buck tooth troll.

no hits for now. 4pts are valuable right now, and differences between places are tight still. With lots of teams are primed/tempted to take hits, not doing so is a competitive advantage.

I have Shorey, Sess & Cuellar. Shorey is staying till the wildcard -- benchfodder. Cuellar may become nelson to upgrade my midfield. Sess stays until Bale is securely back.

Fair point. There would be endless mocking from the crowd as he goes from bench fodder at Newcastle to bench fodder at Reading.

      No, No and No.

Reading are goners, dead in the water...kapeesh, you hear me?

Bargain schmargain. He is a pariah to a team tumbleweeding their way back to the championship

Don't worry I wouldn't consider getting him unless he was rotation proof. The poor lad can't even get a look in at the moment.

+1 Guthrie would have had more game time had he stayed at Newcastle. A serious waste of a good player.

Ha, I enjoy your broken english... 🙂

He has such a rubbish team though...don't know what else he can do.

Nastasic. Seems more and more nailed on, but with Mancini you never really know

    Team linked now.

Opinions on my team for the coming few GW’s please.

    Bego
    Rafa Enrique Shorey
    Bale Caz Fell Taarabt
    Ba RVP Fletch

    Rudd, Sterling, Nelsen, Cuellar

Transferring out Fletch to Berba this week. Just waiting for any future price changes as neither are at risk of rising/falling at the moment.
Next week looking to move either Taarabt > Michu unless Michu picks up his yellow. In which case I save the transfer and do Ba > Torres with the Michu transfer the 2FT after.

I don’t really care for overall rank but I have seem to be doing well. I would just like to win my ML.

Lol, I must admit I was tempted for a bit. Seriously though, two away games was always a huge gamble.

😯 I have no idea... I tried to warn people about expecting too much from Shorey! He had a good game against United, but he still had a run of 7 blanks.

My advice all week was avoid Shorey at all costs. Not because he doesn't have potential but Reading had 2 away games and are pants. Meanwhile Chief Scout Granville was making posters of 'Get Shorey' 🙂

If Reading had a better defence i could understand it. I couldn't believe people were taking hits to get him in for Rafa...

Don't worry people will be selling him for hits soon enough. Or at least selling others for hits in conjunction with selling Sess for free.
