The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Tuesday

Sunderland seal a crucial win over Reading to drag themselves out of the drop zone. James McClean and Steven Fletcher grab the first-half goals, while Stephane Sessegnon leaves his Fantasy owners frantic before finally slotting home a late third.

On the Up

Stephane Sessegnon
Over 68,000 FPL managers drafted in the Benin international prior to the double Gameweek deadline – Steven Fletcher, Adam Johnson and James McClean had a combined tally of around 36,000. With seconds to go, we were cursing our luck as it seemed he was to disappoint but Sessegnon duly delivered to put a smile on plenty Fantasy managers’ faces. With United, City, Spurs and Liverpool in his next five, though, many will be already planning an exit.

Steven Fletcher
Martin O’Neill was particularly cagey over the forward’s chances of starting tonight after his recent ankle injury. Fletcher missed out against Chelsea at the weekend but managed to shrug off the problem to notch his seventh strike of the season. Now up to 74 points in FPL, he’s ahead of the likes of Wayne Rooney but the above-mentioned run of upcoming fixtures is likely to deter many more from investing.

Adam Johnson
The former City man benefitted from an “FPL” assist earlier this evening. A corner from Johnson was cleared by the visitors defence but only as far as James McClean – the winger’s converted attempt boosted his fellow wide man’s double Gameweek haul. Johnson has now produced attacking returns in five of his last seven appearances, though his owners were denied the chance of further points after he was subbed off at half-time with a leg problem.

James McClean
Prior to the double Gameweek, the winger had managed a single assist all season and had started just two of Sunderland’s previous six. Having provided an assist for Adam Johnson’s consolation against Chelsea at the weekend, he needed just one minute to open his account for the season and suggest he’s starting to come into form after a poor first half of the campaign.

Going Down

Kaspars Gorkss
As expected, Sean Morrison failed to recover from the ankle injury sustained against Southampton last weekend. Surprisingly, though, it was Alex Pearce who was given the nod to start alongside Adrian Mariappa, suggesting the Latvian has slipped even further down the pecking order for a spot at centre-half.

Phil Bardsley
Having started the previous six, his place at right-back seemed assured since recovering from a hamstring injury. It was something of a surprise, then, to see Bardsley dropped to the bench, with Craig Gardner preferred at right-back instead. He came on after the break to replace the injured Johnson but lasted just 31 minutes before limping off injured.

Sunderland Injuries
Martin O’Neill has plenty concerns ahead of the weekend trip to United. Danny Rose joined Johnson and Bardsley in limping off – in a defensive reshuffle, Carlos Cuellar finished the match at right-back as Titus Bramble entered the fray at centre-half. If the injuries are carried into the weekend, Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney owners will be even more confident of returns.

You guys reckon with City 6pts behind Aguero or Tevez will be nailed on?

They really can't afford to drop more pts and those are their 2 top strikers. Might consider getting one in..

Was contemplating Rooney/RVP but surely Chicarito and Welbeck will get some PT over Xmas? I think Fergie is confident in those 2.

Aguero/Tevez always get subbed off early, the reason we dont have late goals like RVP, Michu, Suarez, Rooney, Sessegnon.

Everytime I have Aguero, Tevez, always feel nervous at 60-70 mins
Aguero, Tevez will be rotated more than RVP, Rooney

So you recommend the double? Im just scared that Welbeck and Hernandez both have good relationships with Fergie, so he's sure to give them some PT over the break (easy match of course).

Any other nailed- on strikers? Torres, Berba.. any others worth having?

I think Aguero will get a run in the side. He was a big part of City's success last season and I think Mancini will turn to him for goals now.

it looks like for the next few gw all of us will have expensive strikers upfront; rvp/rooney/aguero/suarez/torres..but that will really stretch our budget i guess

One of the worst GW's for me. Begovic & Rafael on the bench to begin with and then HRK hits the pole against southampton and gets injured and does not play against Sunderland. To add to that Bardsley does not play and AJ also gets injured and subbed off. And to add insult to injury Sess scores in the 90th min of a cuellar assist 🙁

    Cazorla Fellaini Sterling (Puncheon Mata)
    Rvp Suarez Ba

    3.7 in bank

My priority is to field 11 players.. so
    A) Demel to Sagna/Gibbs/Olsson/Nelsen
    B) Puncheon to Michu (Really like Punch as a cheap mid and will help me in the Jan WC but he has bad fixtures and i cant take mata or any of my playin 10 out atm)

Looking for some opinnions on my transfer.

If bale is confirmed fit, I'll do sess => bale and that's it.
But if he isn't, then tinkering starts...

    a) Rangel => Bassong (can bench Cuellar)
    b) Rangel => Caulker (can bench Cuellar)
    c) Sess => Silva (must play Cuellar)
    d) save transfer and play Cuellar and Sess this week

a and b means I still have funds to do sess => bale for gw18.

i don't think its a good idea to get berba for a hit..with rodallega plays upfront, berbatov is playing deeper..i will play fletcher against united, so far united only managed 3 clean sheets in the league, so there is chances united will concede goals

If you read the paragraph it implies that he's spacing the Mata and pool defender over 2 weeks and wondering whether to do the Berba one for a hit in either of the next 2 weeks.

I wouldn't get Berba in this week, or next.

I'm studying population based algorithms in my degree at the moment. It's interesting to see that even people have a set of basic instructions they all follow to give a seemingly complex result as a collective.

I like to place butterflies under peoples feet after gameweeks and watch the accumulating effect it has on band-wagons throughout the week. Interesting, I'm going to try and break away with more differentials now. The individual thinkers tend to be the ones at the top of the leagues...

If they follow form and fixtures differentials are all good. The thing is you have to catch them at the beginning of their run. The earlier you get them the higher the risk/reward. But then goes the saying, 'better to be a week late than 5 weeks too early'

Yep its a fine tactic if your near the top to hold onto the template players although one could argue that that won't win you the competition. I guess it depends what you're aiming for, A top 10k finish or to win the whole thing.

Any Ba owners looking to get rid due to other options available up front, the bad fixtures and transfer speculation? I just wonder if Pardew will slowly ease in other players more regularly such as Cisse and Marveax as he seeks to build up form for a Newcastle side that won't have Ba in January.

Rooney from the left, RVP from the right. It just depends which side they get their FKs and CKs from. I'd say RVP has slightly more as Valencia and Rafael are frequent routes of attack.

I hate when a situation arises like this where you have to pick between two expensive in form strikers that play on the same team and share a lot of the set piece. I mean, you basically have to pick one and hope he outscores the other. Always gruelling checking the scores that night, hoping RVP scored and not Rooney or visa versa. Thinking both is looking like the best option here...

My thoughts are that you might be fecked royally if Bale and Walcott dont make it And you have Mata not playing either. That's 3 big hitters with a possible no show.

Poor trades, in the sense that you took out 2 nailed on starters, and left the injured players still in your team.

I would appreciate a good advice, with whom should I replace Noble for 6.9?

I have 3 midfielders who are guaranteed starters (Bale, Michu, Fellaini) and I’m thinking about rotating Routledge, this new midfielder and my 3rd striker Lambert (picking 2 of the 3) depending on their current schedule. Or should I let Noble in my team and sign a better striker?

My original intention was to get Nolan but his form lately has been discouraging.

I'm looking to put in Suarez for Tevez and downgrade Silva, I'll have 8.5 to spend but want to save some to get Bale in for Cazorla maybe in a gameweek or 2 any advice?

    Begovic Federici
    Cuellar Shorey Clyne Shawcross Nelsen
    Fellaini Cazorla Puncheon SIlva Michu
    RVP Tevez Berbatov

    Any advice appreciated thanks
