The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Tuesday

Sunderland seal a crucial win over Reading to drag themselves out of the drop zone. James McClean and Steven Fletcher grab the first-half goals, while Stephane Sessegnon leaves his Fantasy owners frantic before finally slotting home a late third.

On the Up

Stephane Sessegnon
Over 68,000 FPL managers drafted in the Benin international prior to the double Gameweek deadline – Steven Fletcher, Adam Johnson and James McClean had a combined tally of around 36,000. With seconds to go, we were cursing our luck as it seemed he was to disappoint but Sessegnon duly delivered to put a smile on plenty Fantasy managers’ faces. With United, City, Spurs and Liverpool in his next five, though, many will be already planning an exit.

Steven Fletcher
Martin O’Neill was particularly cagey over the forward’s chances of starting tonight after his recent ankle injury. Fletcher missed out against Chelsea at the weekend but managed to shrug off the problem to notch his seventh strike of the season. Now up to 74 points in FPL, he’s ahead of the likes of Wayne Rooney but the above-mentioned run of upcoming fixtures is likely to deter many more from investing.

Adam Johnson
The former City man benefitted from an “FPL” assist earlier this evening. A corner from Johnson was cleared by the visitors defence but only as far as James McClean – the winger’s converted attempt boosted his fellow wide man’s double Gameweek haul. Johnson has now produced attacking returns in five of his last seven appearances, though his owners were denied the chance of further points after he was subbed off at half-time with a leg problem.

James McClean
Prior to the double Gameweek, the winger had managed a single assist all season and had started just two of Sunderland’s previous six. Having provided an assist for Adam Johnson’s consolation against Chelsea at the weekend, he needed just one minute to open his account for the season and suggest he’s starting to come into form after a poor first half of the campaign.

Going Down

Kaspars Gorkss
As expected, Sean Morrison failed to recover from the ankle injury sustained against Southampton last weekend. Surprisingly, though, it was Alex Pearce who was given the nod to start alongside Adrian Mariappa, suggesting the Latvian has slipped even further down the pecking order for a spot at centre-half.

Phil Bardsley
Having started the previous six, his place at right-back seemed assured since recovering from a hamstring injury. It was something of a surprise, then, to see Bardsley dropped to the bench, with Craig Gardner preferred at right-back instead. He came on after the break to replace the injured Johnson but lasted just 31 minutes before limping off injured.

Sunderland Injuries
Martin O’Neill has plenty concerns ahead of the weekend trip to United. Danny Rose joined Johnson and Bardsley in limping off – in a defensive reshuffle, Carlos Cuellar finished the match at right-back as Titus Bramble entered the fray at centre-half. If the injuries are carried into the weekend, Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney owners will be even more confident of returns.

Even is Bale manages to be declared fit for the match, how effective will he be AND will he play the 90 or be subbed in or out?? maybe.

Either way, Bale looks like a very unattractive option this week. Want to get him myself but will wait and see

If you're really uncertain about certain transfer decisions, especially if you don't NEED to make them take this for a helpful tip. Its probably better to just save, be wrong, and have two transfers the following week than it is to make a trade, be wrong, and have only one transfer next week.

Wrong time of year to make risks mate. Serious rotation coming up, lots of injuries around at the moment too. Transfers are precious at this time in the season. Sideways transfers should be avoided.

Walcott + Le Fondre -> Bale (if fit) + Long for a -4 hit is justified, I think.

If Enrique plays, I’m good to go but if not, it’s either:

    1) Cuellar off the bench (mun)
    2) Gorkss off the bench (ARS)
    3) Another -4 hit to do Gorkss -> 6.1m defender (name, rank and serial number please)

He has been rotated a lot this year but is still one of the top scorers. He will get minutes every game but even if off the bench there is a very high chance he will still get you returns. No city players are rotation proof bar Silva who isn't worth his price tag.

Do we think Sagna will be nailed on now? He's surely the preferred option ahead of Jenkinson once he's up to 100% fitness and starting both at the weekend and playing 120 mins midweek would seem to back that up.

At £5.1m he looks great value and I'm not convinced that Gibbs is any more secure. Mert looks pretty secure but is he worth the extra £300k?

so to those saying tevez/bale, what's the reasoning? you think tevez is nailed on to start from here on?

it would seem that the silva/defoe option is more nailed on for starts. silva's recent poor returns shouldn't put you off one of the potential players of the season (and he's nailed on), and given defoe's current form, i'd more expect dempsey/ade to be the rotation pair teaming up with defoe.

      that's just me, though.

got to be taarabt. STK home defense is the best in the league, i think. not like spurs'.

on the flipside, fulham on the road are pretty leaky, and harry seems to be telling everyone to give taarabt the ball in attacking positions.

No way. A lack of goals does not equal poor form. Bera has been unlucky not to score and has been playing very well. Fletcher is half the player Berba is, playing in a weaker team, and Sunderland have one of the hardest runs of fixtures over the next five that they'll have all season.

Suarez or RVP for the armband this week?

Sort of want to debate both sides of the argument?

I would say Suarez is the better option this week given that he is well rested, will be hungry to be amongst the goals and everything pool does goes through him.

Conversely,Roo does seem to be stealing some of RVP limelight at the moment.

hard to quantify using the data available in the members' area as villa over the season on the road have been generally the near the bottom in most defensive metrics but the last 4 GWs they've been the tightest defense in the league.

one thing that seems reasonable to draw out of the data is that villa's strongest defensive area is their right side. so if enrique isn't fit, you'd say liverpool won't have much of a chance there. left side is weakest, so johnson could have some joy whipping in crosses.

Berb has pedigree. Hang on...unless a permanent drought sets in (v unlikely).

Yes stick.berbs could of had two on Monday...just didnt have his shooting boots on. A one on one and a 6 yard reaction save from krul, any other day that's two goals.

Gorkks = rot until Jan WC
Sess= sell this week this week for a differential....
Fletch = need to play him or Nolan this week(Unless Michu picks up YC tonight...)/Then Play Fletch vs South(a) then sell for Berba for SOUTH/SWANS

      You?
