The Fantasy Flutter with Paddy Power – Gameweek 18

We fell short once again last week, which now swings the profit pot back in Paddy’s favour after the likes of Jermain Defoe, Grant Holt and Luis Suarez all failed to notch in their corresponding matches. We’ve got ground to make up and pennies to claw back, then, so this time we threw our bookmaker buddy some less familiar names…

We’ve had our eye on Glen Johnson in recent weeks, not least because he’s shown an attacking intent that’s seen him emerge as a real goal threat from the Liverpool right. Last weekend, only Steven Gerrard’s glancing header prevented Johnson’s goal-bound effort registering for the full-back and, having notched at West Ham in Gameweek 16, we think there’s another goal just around the corner. Paddy are offering 14/1 on a Johnson goal with a Liverpool clean sheet against Fulham and, with Martin Jol’s side stuttering and struggling to find goals, we’ll gladly take this one up for £2 of our stake money.

Jason Puncheon is another name we’ve latched onto as a player who is offering exceptional value from midfield in a Southampton side that attacks with some verve. Puncheon has been the Saints’ major goal threat in recent weeks and, with Adam Lallana missing this weekend and possibly over Christmas, the former Blackpool winger may have to step up his game to help maintain the Saints’ recent run of results. Paddy have slapped 11/1 on a Puncheon goal with a Southampton clean sheet against Sunderland at St Mary’s and we like that enough to toss £3 of our money in its direction.

David Silva is the headline act amongst this week’s Flutter selection; the subject of our recent Monitor article for members, the little Spaniard will surely be key to picking apart the Reading defence and many will fancy Silva for a decent haul. He has just a single goal to his name so far this season but this encounter looks to be a decent platform for him to add to his tally. Paddy certainly fancy his chances and have 7/2 on a Silva goal with Man City clean sheet against the Royals. We’ll take that for £3 more our stake funds.

Finally, we have £2 remaining for our weekly treble. While this normally features a United striker, this time around we thought we’d throw this week’s Scout Pick and differential punt, Edin Dzeko into the mix. We fancy the Bosnian to play some part, if not start, against Reading and that could well bring Dzeko the opportunity to boost this season’s goal count. Paddy are dangling odds of 11/1 on a Dzeko goal, a Santi Cazorla assist against Wigan and a clean sheet for Spurs at home to Stoke.

Register and Bet £10 And Get £20 Free

If you’re new to Paddy Power, then you can take up any of these odds and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register an account and bet a tenner.

Finally of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions. Also, if you’re going to bet, always gamble responsibly.

    Sorry for Repost:

    Walcott/Silva/Michu/Dempsey/(Fellaini)
    RVP/Suarez/Rooney

    A) Fellaini > Hazard
    B) Fellaini > Taarabt
    C) Fellaini > Yaya

I want Mata but he is in my rival’s team and I can’t afford him.
Bale is not in my rival’s team but I can’t afford him either.
Any thoughts? and who to captain?!

Check out the U.S. version of "The Killing" — fabulous and noire-ish, but understand that the mystery will last two seasons (series).

"Lost" is awesome-sauce. Layers upon layers.

"Sherlock" is fantastic. Cumberbatch is about to become a big star with Trek.

"Doc Martin" is groovy and addictive, if you haven't already seen it.

HBO's "The Newsroom" is pretty good, if you like a compelling soap-drama.

Are they wrong though? It seems to be trotted out every week how bad the picks are. They should do a survey and figure out just how bad/good the picks are. They could even make it a weekly article - 'Picks Performance', or some such. That way readers might get a clearer idea of how much they can read into the choices every week.

I'm really struggling with captain choice this week

    a) Mata (in form but can you rely on Chelsea? Also Villa is full of confidence now)

    b) Rvp: (man in the form, scored last 5 games, swansea away is tough, slight concern on his game time, AF might bench him)

    c) Suarez:( Hasn't scored for ages, is he due to have big game week)

I am leaning towards Suarez, just a gut feeling..unless you lot talk me out of it

(Sorry for the repost, got left behind in the other thread...)

Thinking on taking a -4pt hit for either…

    McCartney –> Zabaleta/Nastasic
    or
    Holt –> Tevez/Ba

I’m already planning to take Berba next gameweek in place of Holt, so I’m leaning more towards taking a defender this gameweek and just playing with 2 strikers (which I don’t usually do).

I know Nastasic seems less likely to be rotated, but I think Zaba could get a good return if he starts. Plus I’ve been reading some reports that Maicon wasn’t fully fit near the start of last week.

    My Team -

    Begovic
    Shawcross – Enrique – Cameron
    Silva – Morrison – Cazorla – Michu
RVP – Defoe – Holt (inj)

Ruddy – McCartney (Inj) – Baird – Kacaniklic

    Any thoughts?

I would bring in Tevez and Zaba for the hit if I were you. Of course there's a risk but, against Reading, you've the best chance of making up that 4 pts and great returns on top. Also avoids treble Stoke in defence who I can't see keeping a CS

The treble Stoke defence is a worry, especially with their fixtures coming up, that's why I'm thinking I need another decent defended.

The other problem is I've already used my only free transfer this week to bring Silva in for Fellaini.

It looks pretty sexy tbh. I'd shag it. I might put Mertesacker in though for one of Demel or Baines, esp since they're playing each other so at least one is likely to concede. Probs dump Demel actually, since you have Jussi in goal.

Nothing concrete, but my thinking is that if Dzeko does start, it will be Tevez that makes way. Kun is yet to go 'on a run' of scoring, and since he scored last week, i think Mancini would want to give him that run in order to get into the habit of scoring. Just a theory.

After Dzeko scored 4 at Spurs last year, I am pretty sure he was "rested" next game Mancini is a law unto himself.

You could also argue he will start Tevez and Aguero in an effort to boost City's goal difference then bring them off after 70 mins, damage already done.

              No-one knows 🙁

Reading have won two and lost just one of the last four away league games against Manchester City.

I had them both and only kept it going for one week. Looks great when they've got a decent fixture, then they get a tricky away game and people start talking about rotation and I lost my nerve. Eggs and baskets. I don't want to spend my time worrying about United points that got away. There are plenty of options, and points, out there.

I'd actually go choice 1 for short term.

Less transfers to achieve 1 (two transfers only), Fulham (Hangeland) isn't keeping clean sheets at the moment and Sagna misses next game week (blank). 1 also frees up more cash for Jan wildcard.
hence I'd go 1 short term, 2 long term.

Interesting that Fellaini went up 0.1 then down 0.4 this week - it seems that it's the overall price change in a week that can't exceed 0.3, as opposed to a maximum of 3 drops in a week.

not worried about mins? If City are up a few he might come off 70th min or so for rest.

If City are up a few, then he's likely to be in the points. City have quite a threadbare squad this week, so he might not have the chance to come off.
