Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Pottered

Tony Pulis will need to reshuffle his defensive options after two of Stoke’s regular back-four fell foul of the referee’s wrath against Liverpool in Boxing Day. Ryan Shawcross and Geoff Cameron will now sit out the Potters’ home clash against Southampton after accruing their fifth cautions of the campaign in Wednesday’s 3-1 win:

The duo are two of four players who are set to serve an automatic one-match ban in Gameweek 20. Villa’s Fabian Delph and Newcastle centre-half Mike Williamson are also sidelined against Wigan and Arsenal respectively.

While those four are unavailable, a quartet of new protagonists appeared on the Suspension Tightrope after receiving their fourth cautions of the campaign in midweek. Yaya Toure, Bradley Johnson, Jean Beausejour and Maynor Figueroa will all need to be on their best behaviour this upcoming weekend, as will 27 other players, including the likes of Robin Van Persie, Michu, Gareth Bale, Jermain Defoe, Adel Taarabt and Kevin Nolan; once Gameweek 20 is out the way, though, the limit is then extended to 10 yellows. So far, a quartet on players lead the race for that dubious honour – Luis Suarez, James Perch, Craig Gardner and Angel Rangel all have seven bookings apiece.

Both Darron Gibson and Carlton Cole are available this weekend, however. The FA have overturned three-match bans handed out to the pair in West Ham’s Gameweek 18 home clash with Everton – good news for those Fantasy managers eyeing up Cole as a possible double Gameweek punt; the 4.9 priced forward has produced two goals, an assist and six bonus points in four games since deputising for the injured Andy Carroll.

Elsewhere, Cheick Tiote returns for Newcastle’s trip to Arsenal after sitting out their 4-3 defeat at Old Trafford, while Marouane Fellaini serves the final fixture of his three-match ban as Everton welcome Chelsea to Goodison Park.

Could he play Sturridge up top though pushing Luis wider? That might mean more assists for Suarez, but fewer goals.

As a 'Pool fan i think Borini should be and should've been played through the middle, he is the poacher who has a good scoring record and a great attack positioning. For me Sturridge will be more dead weight, i'm of the opinion a player, although a bit ambitious is my thinking, like Walcott or Lewis Holtby would be a better purchase to add more width and offensive creativity.

Good point, unfortunately they are a dying breed and with this 'Tiki Taka' approach it means a creative playmaker is what is needed, however as long as Gerrard is there and Rodgers' fetish for a Xavi-esque player remain that player will be the missing piece of this Anfield puzzle.

I know his transfers carry over but still, if they didn't have to, he'd get the extra rise before next GW. I see why the cap is necessary as player prices could get out of hand.

He rose on the 26th (first day of GW20 in terms of the rises cap)
He will rise tonight (second day of GW20)
He should also rise tomorrow night (third day of GW20)
He should also rise Saturday night (first day of GW21)

His rises won't be affected by the cap this GW, next GW they will be unless the bandwagon comes to an abrupt halt.

Put these fantasy annoyances in order. 1 being worst.

Rival has lots of un-intended points coming off bench.
You have loads of points remaining on bench.
92nd minute Yellow card for captain.
Rival starts mirroring tactics to maintain lead.
Transferred in player gets injured first week.
crap player in your team that you just cant seem to get shot of due to bigger problems elsewhere.

Not sure that he is more nailed on than either of those 2 myself. Is there a better RB in the league than Sagna? And Mertesacker has been one of Arsenals better performers this season imo. Gibbs is of course first choice and a very definite attacking threat, but i can't help thinking he'll be injured again by the time the DGW rolls around

Hey guys som help with my xfer this week please:

    Current team:

    Bego McCarthy
    Enrique Davies Demel Nelsen Cuellar
    Silva Bale Sterling Michu Taarabt
    RVP Aguero Suarez

    .6 in the bank

    A) Cuellar - > Sagna
    B) Silva - > Walcott/Santi/Mata
    C) Downgrade Aguero?

    Thoughts?

So hows this for a plan?

This gw: Silva - > Mata
        Next: Aguero - > Ba
        After: Taarabt - > Walcott

Would be really hard to get any decent Arsenal cover for DGW if i go with mata now.

Cuellar is doing you proud right now!

I'd go with Silva to Santi, seems boring but you will get the rewards in the coming 3 or 4 GWs I feel. If City start to pick up, Aguero will be nice to have.

Davies in for Shorey I think... then I want to get O'Brien and maybe Cuellar eventually... hopefully can wait for the Jan WC to sort it, almost got my super team back with Fell/Caz/Michu/Mata/Bale RVP/Suarez 8)

Is it worth any? I guess if you're going to get 0, then it's only a 2 point hit in effect, with possibly more points to come. Nothing too drastic, you might be back up to 5 after this GW.

I get what you are saying Stilicho. I think he will come good over the next 6 looking at the fixtures. There's been a few reasons interest in him has dwindled. If he can avoid a YC this weekend he's firmly on my radar as he will surely get back to scoring goals soon. I think it's more of a 'team' thing...Michu and Fellaini for interest play for teams far stronger and both are very creative teams. West Ham were always going to struggle the last few months given their fixtures. They had one of the best runs at the start of the season...(hence why I double up on defence to start) 🙂

Nolan's game is all about being there to pick up on a loose ball or a knock down, and when West Ham aren't creating much, he isn't getting enough of these scraps to create an opportunity from. Plus, he is so much more effective when he has a big man up front to knock it down to him, and Carroll ain't back for the DGW.

Yeah he's a little underrated but as has been said his form has been poor. I think it's down to West ham missing key players like Benayoun and Diame personally. They are pretty uninspiring lately and any time I watch them I see no creativity.

I don't know, judging by the way Stoke tore into Liverpool it could be another home win. Speaking to the Saints fan above he said Fulham were pretty poor at the weekend and the Swans are looking v solid at the moment.

    My midfield seriously in trouble.

    Pienaar - Puncheon - Sterling - Silva - Michu

I'm planning to keep Michu in bench for this week. However other 4 midfield looks really bad since I don't have cover for Chelsea which in form at the moment. Any suggestion on what I should do to improve my midfield? My striker are Berbatov - RVP - Defoe.

      Silva to Mata/Bale...

I would say Bale is more 'essential' at the moment

God, I just did Rooney to Sturridge in frustration because no strikers appealed to me on a budget. Why didn't I just go for Berba....

Puncheon is playing in a 5 man mid for the weekend.

Anyone think Sturridge will play the Sunderland game for Liverpool?

I actually have no flipping clue what came over me. Was panicking because didn't want Rooney to fall. Kept putting in Suarez but the plans for the DGW would have been scuppered. At one point I was going to put Ba in, in the hope he'd get transferred to Arsenal....
