Watchlist

The Watchlist – Adel Taarabt

It’s a fair assumption that if QPR are to avoid the dreaded drop under Harry Redknapp, much will depend on the contribution of Adel Taarabt. While former Spurs boss has instilled a new-found resilience which has harvested four clean sheets in the last six, it’s also telling that of the nine goals the R’s have scored since the departure of Mark Hughes, Taarabt has had a hand in six of them.

Indeed, based on the data in the members area, which analyses Opta goals and assists, there’s a greater than 50% chance that Taarabt will be involved in his side’s goals when on the pitch. Quite simply, no other midfielder can match that contribution to their respective side, underlining his importance to the QPR cause.

Since Redknapp’s first official match in charge in the Gameweek 14 draw at Sunderland, the maverick Moroccan has chipped in with two goals and four assists and, with 11 bonus points also thrown in, has averaged 4.4 points per game under the new regime. With Redknapp revealing only this morning that he “won’t take any risks” with record signing Loic Remy’s groin problem and with Bobby Zamora not yet fit enough for a starting berth, Taarabt’s role in “the hole” offers us an intriguing mid-price prospect over the next few matches.

With a share of set-pieces and corners in his locker and with spot-kick duties still intact despite his recent miss against Norwich, Taarabt’s upcoming schedule looks particularly enticing. The Loftus Road outfit now square up to six of the current bottom nine in the next nine Gameweeks, offering Redknapp plenty reason to be optimistic as he attempts to claw back a seven point deficit on fourth-bottom Aston Villa.

The R’s play host to Sunderland, Wigan and Stoke and travel to Southampton, Villa, Fulham and Reading – plenty of proverbial six-pointers are on the cards, then, and with draws no longer good enough, Redknapp needs to go on the offensive. As the pressure begins to mount in the drop zone, these last few months tend to hand Fantasy managers some unexpected gems at the foot of the table – priced at just 5.8 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and 5.2 in Sky Sports game, there’d be no better time for Taarabt to finally dazzle.

Suarez to Cisse, Benteke or Lukaku?

    Money no issue.
Have power 5 and RVP Lambert.

I like Lukaku but he misses Cheksea game presumably.

    Thoughts please?

I'm going to take a punt and take Suarez out for Aguero and hope his form improves.

I can see goals in the Chelsea match and then they face Villa and Wigan, both decent options for captaincy if RVP could be rested.

Keeping one eye on this situation…..

    Man Utd Website:

09 Mar - Barclays Premier League - West Ham (A)
09 Mar - FA Cup - FA Cup Sixth Round (TBC)

Am I correct in thinking that pending this weekend’s FA Cup results maybe a nice DGW for Man Utd/West Ham and a few other PL teams in late March? ….

Basically, he's not delivered because QPR haven't delivered. The stat on his involvement in QPR's goals is quite extraordinary - Taarabt surpasses Bale, Walcott and Michu is this respect. That suggests if Harry does rescue Rangers, Taarabt will finally deliver. Whether you back Taarabt depends, then, on whether you back Redknapp. Of all the relegation threatened sides, I'd say they have the best run-in available, too.

Like I say in another comment. Victor Moses a lot of ridicule as a Fantasy option until about now when suddenly, Wigan improved and Moses improved. Seems likely that someone from a relegation threatened side will come good and inspire their team to safety. Taarabt is as a good bet - that's all we're saying here.

Yea I back 'arry Mark, think he's a great manager...if anyone can get em out the drop zone he can. I'm just not convinced on Taarabt. Every time I watch him I enjoy the way he plays and his off the ball movement is excellent but as a fantasy prospect in a 5 man midfield he is too much of a risk for me at the moment.

Yeah, agreed, he's a big risk. Sissoko a better option if you're looking for a shake-up perhaps. Most aren't though - we still endorse the established players but, then, not every Fantasy manager can afford to play safe at this point.

Yes, but the point is, do you see it being bugger all for the rest of the season. Do you see QPR going down with a whimper. Fine if that's the case. If not, look at Moses last season. Looked a key figure without delivering, then suddenly, he turned it around as Wigan improved. Identifying the key players in relegation threatened sides is basically identifying players who could come from nowhere to deliver points.

The stats have been right about Cazorla, Suarez and Bale this season - all players who have always stood out statistically - all players who, at one time or another this season, have been huge Fantasy assets. Taarabt needs a confident and winning team around him to come to fruition - the timing of this latest article is based on the fact that it's do or die for Rangers, with good fixtures to come in the next month or so.

Yep, I posted yesterday, Wilson is ranked so high in the Watchlist because we just think he's too good to be true. He looks a nailed on starter in a defence we know can keep shutouts with the fixtures left to do so. If he starts at Fulham, regardless of points, interest in him will sore amongst the hardcore who know his potential. He won't be 3.9 for long.

This is very true. It's either in for BD or demel. But I want to hold demel if there's any chance of him playing next week for Joey

I'm not rating their chances. Fulham at home with Berbatov in the side is enough to put me off most team's chances.

Who would you rather have, Lambert or Fellaini?

    Fellaini - nor, RDG
    Lambert - new, QPR

Lambert would be a longterm punt and has a fixture in GW29. Fellaini has two great fixtures but could miss GW29.

Depends on Fellaini's midfield replacement. I'm favouring 3-5-2 currently and I'm holding Fellaini till after Reading.

Basically, Fellaini means losing Michu for 2 weeks.
        Lambert means losing Sturridge.

depends on how many of your players will be affected by the gw29 blank. bringing in fellaini will likely require an extra transfer to replace him in 2 weeks time.

If all goes well i could field 11 with both options. It's just Fellaini might require an extra transfer to get rid.

      Evans

Cheaper, lower ownership, bigger attacking threat

He might miss the odd game, probably the Norwich one. Fergie has said he will rotate Ferdinand and Vidic so Evans looks like 1st choice.

Worth swapping in evans for Enrique this week? Struggling for numbers next week. I would be evans in for JE and Roo in for suarez (-4)
