The Stock Check

The Stock Check – Saturday – Part Two

Liverpool hammer Wigan at the DW, as Luis Suarez sweeps aside the lacklustre Latics with a hat-trick. Stewart Downing and Philippe Coutinho also pick up the points as the Reds win on the road for the first time since Gameweek 20:

On the Up

Luis Suarez
Reinstalled to the lone forward role as Daniel Sturridge missed out with a knock, the Uruguayan ran riot at the DW this evening. Suarez’s hat-trick took him to 21 goals for the season – two ahead of Robin Van Persie in the race for the Golden Boot. With maximum bonus looking assured, Suarez will now be just 14 points behind the Dutchman at the top of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) standings and with form, fixtures and guaranteed game time on his side, could well end the season as number one.

Philippe Coutinho
The January signing from Inter scored on his first start for the Reds in the previous league match with Swansea and maintained his strong attacking form with a pair of assists. With Brendan Rodgers keen to protect Raheem Sterling, Coutinho could well be set to feature more prominently in the first XI from here on in and looks a decent mid-price option at 6.5 in FPL.

Stewart Downing
An early opener added to his assist against Swansea in Liverpool’s last league encounter, meaning Downing has now produced returns in back-to-back Gameweeks for the first time this season. At 5.7, he could be another option, with starts certainly looking assured – he has been named in the first XI in each of the last 13.

Glen Johnson
Subject of our recent members article, which drew comparisons with Jose Enrique’s numbers, it was Johnson’s turn to deliver today with a smart assist for Suarez’s third goal which could also see him figure amongst the bonus points. That was the right-backs fifth assist of the season and, with his Gameweek 29 fixture secure, Johnson seems set to earn a batch of new suitors after this timely haul.

Going Down

Daniel Sturridge
Brendan Rodgers’ decision to omit the former Chelsea man is clearly something of a worry for his owners. Sturridge has missed two out of the last three now and with his manager clearly keen to protect him from further damage as he nurses a troublesome thigh problem, his game time is looking less assured as Sturridge shows a propensity to pick up knocks. With the front three all impressing, Rodgers clearly has no need to rush Sturridge back although he will be expected to be in the frame for the Gameweek 29 visit of Spurs.

Wigan Home Form
It seems last week’s 3-0 win at Reading may be something of a false dawn. Many had believed Roberto Martinez’s side were on the verge of their annual surge up the table but instead they capitulated – Wigan have now conceded 31 goals in front of their own fans, four more than any other side.

I disagree. By having the DGWs spread out, non WC owner's can still prepare for it through one and two transfers every week.

Surely the ideal scenario for you is one bumper GW or 2 DGWs in a row so you can load up a week before/clear your team the weak after with your WC?

2 in a row would be great. Gw33 and then 34 would allow us to do just as you mentioned. Could give us a huge edge

also bear in mind that GW33 is Fa Cup semis weekend, so United or Chelsea, Wigan or Everton and probably City will have another DGW, so keeping their players may be worth it. Thus wc for the 2 DGWs could be better as you'd just be looking at losing Arsenal and Chelsea players.

IMO if United win they will get a DGW in 34 (same for Chelsea and Everton and City)

The losing teams will likely get a DGW in GW33.

TBH it isn't much of a bonus unless you have 2 WCs, you always have to get out of whatever you get into anyway so I don't think its as much of a magic bullet as people think.

    Morning lads

so I am now RvPless, should have done this last week, it's so liberating the freedom one has. No plans to get him back, for a United DGW I'll double on defence and captain Rooney

    Now 2 questions

    1) Has anyone got a Fantasy F1 set up?

    2) Do I need to re-apply every week for the full Jonty?

The main reason I have RVP is that I will captain him most weeks, I sold this week and had planned to get him back gw30 but now I'm looking at Rooney as an alternative because I can't see myself captaining a Utd striker much in the next few weeks and believe Rooney could match RVP value wise. It also allows me to keep Suarez over Cisse.

Rooney when he has played as been more or less on par with RVP so good transfer to make, as united will have a double gameweek in there. Only reason holding me off it is part of rooneys performance has been due to him taking penalties which is now with rvp. In the away games he sometimes play left midfield.

Only 8 out next week so thinking of a little reshuffle to get 10 out for a 4pt hit.

Set on doing Mata - Coutinho (Mata seems to be weakest of "power 5" currently)
Which leaves Anichebe to one of the following:

    A) Benteke
    B) Lukaku
    C) Lambert

3 main rivals have Lambert, and league leader has Lukaku, but Benteke seems to have best fixtures in next 2 so I'm favouring him currently.

    Thoughts or advice please all........

There aren't a lot of good midfield options knocking around for GW29.

Sissoko, a Swans midfielder or a Norwich midfielder look the best bet. You have Michu & Sissoko so I guess that narrows it down.

        It's so annoying in hindsight.

I sold Suarez for Lambert instead of Sturridge and the cash is going to be sitting in my bank over the next couple of weeks anyway.

At the time it was the right decision. Yesterday's game was a freak result and it was desperately unlucky for his owners that Sturridge was out.

Actually, the argument was "Suarez 180mins over RVP 20 mins". Not many predicted the RVP start.

I'm happy with my decision in hindsight. If you told me that RVP would definitely play 60 mins and that his GW29 fixture wasn't confirmed either way, I'd have still kept RVP.

If you had told me that Sturridge wouldn't be starting and that Wigan would be absolutely rubbish, then maybe that would have changed things however.

I still think people who held on to RVP will not regret it. Liverpool likely to do nothing in next few weeks. Utd will continue to win and score at will.

People who sold RVP for Suarez or Lambert will want RVP back once they see Utd DGW on the ticker. They will probably end up eating 4 or 8 of those Suarez points today getting RVP back and having to lose Suarez to do so.

I kept RVP and think I'm going to be glad I did in a few gw time.

I agree, reality is the goals will be shared, against Norwich on another day, RVP would have filled his boots He is also behind Suarez in goals, will want to chase that down.

Good point Nomar - luckily I have a wc and my end run in will be Suarez and Rvp I'd say.
I must admit I loaded up on pool players for their Dgw , I scored well but the following week I flunked and when I combined the two scores it was only average so yes your point is valid but you gotta take a few recalculated risk in this game IMO.

Why do Liverpool looks likely to do nothing over the next few? 30 goals in 11 games and a decent set of fixtures says otherwise.

Also, losing 4 or 8 of those Suarez points to get RVP back would defo be worth it, especially considering there's AT LEAST a 4-8 point gain, even if RVP has no GW29 and Suarez blanks vs Spurs.

We can get RVP back in for a DGW if required though, if we want.

I think you will be regretting it if Suarez scores next week...

Regretting and ruing a missed opportunity aren't the same thing. As I said above, RVP owners made a good decision in keeping RVP. It's just a shame the likely replacement did so much better.

You're just reacting to one good GW from Coutinho and one bad one from Michu.

There's no need to sell Michu for a few weeks, especially with these blanks to negotiate.

    Morning guys.

Pick a combo of transfers for me please. Have 2FTs so all three would be -4.

    A. Demel -> Wilson
    B. Mata -> Sessegnon
    C. Fellaini -> Sissoko

All three would give me 10 for next week.

    Fed
    Shaw - Davies - WILSON
    SESSEGNON - SISSOKO - Michu - Bale
    Lambert - Sturridge

    Jussi - Zabaleta - Jevans - Walcott - RVP

i wouldn't do A and just play 9. especially they will face Newcastle. if he couldn't keep clean sheet, you will lost -2.

      B and C looks good.
