The Stock Check – Monday

Dimitar Berbatov’s quality is ultimately too much for visiting QPR, as the Bulgarian’s early strikes prove decisive, despite a strong second-half showing from Harry Redknapp’s seemingly doomed side. Here’s the Stock Check on a Monday night that delivered on its promise…

On the Up

Dimitar Berbatov
A third brace of the season took Berbatov to five goals in his last four matches as the Bulgarian stuck to the script and lived up to pre-match expectations. There were instant dividends for Berbatov’s new owners, then, and with a double Gameweek to come, his stock will surely continue to rise at pace.

Mark Schwarzer
A third penalty save of the season denied QPR a point and saw the Aussie stopper return seven Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points for his owners, despite failing to keep the clean sheet. Schwarzer is top rated for form in the FPL, averaging 6.5 points per game over the last six matches.

Adel Taarabt
With Redknapp going all out for the points, Taarabt came back into the lineup to lend his creative spark and goal threat. For once, the Moroccan delivered, firing QPR back into the match with a late first half goal, before winning the spot-kick which Remy squandered. With three points essential for QPR, surely Taarabt will retain his starting role for matches to come.

Loic Remy
Brought in from the flank for the second half, the Frenchman wasted his spot kick, only to surge through and make amends with a fine finish to hand the R’s a lifeline. It’s three strikes in the last four starts for Remy who continues to look the most likely to fetch the goals that QPR so badly need over the remaining seven matches.

Going Down

The QPR Defence
While Chris Samba was culpable for Fulham’s opening two goals in a disastrous first half, it was skipper Clint Hill that made way at half-time, presumably to protect him having earned a booking and escaped a potential sending off. In Gameweek 7, under Mark Hughes, Hill was subbed at half-time at West Brom – he remained out of the side until Gameweek 13. It remains to be seen if Hill will be restored to the side for the visit of Wigan – in truth, Redknapp is likely to be more displeased with the showing from Samba.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Bale - Bought for 9.8 - Current value (now) 10.9 - Sale value 10.3

    I expect him to increase 0.2 from now until the GW32 deadline:
    Bale - Bought for 9.8 - Expected value (start GW33) 11.1 - Sale value 10.4

    Then I see him dropping 0.3 during DGW33 as he has no fixture, and possibly even 0.4 by the end of that Saturday:
    Bale - Bought for 9.8 - Expected value (start of GW34) 10.8 or 10.7

    So if I sell Bale going into DGW33, and then buy him back the following week, I can expect to lose 0.3 or 0.4. I either do that, or sell Mata, don't lose any money, but then will have to play Turner away to Arsenal instead of Mata away to Fulham.

    Would you sell Bale in this case?

        But the masses are so fickle! During GW29 when all the big teams had blanks, RVP dropped 0.3, Mata and Walcott dropped 0.4.
        It's gonna be the same situation with Bale this time. Plus there's the DGW, so there's even more motivation for the 'amateur' players to replace him with the DGWers like Cazorla, Walcott, Fellaini, etc.

        That Distin was excellent value over Baines.

        I do believe I've been right for the last few weeks. Distin is easily benchable and playable in better fixtures...Baines you have to lumber with.

        Baines however is awesome for a DGW 🙂

    DDG* (Bunn)

    Sagna*, Zaba, Bertrand (Pearce, Davies)

    Fellaini*, Walcott*, Santi*, Maloney (Bale)

    RvP*, Rooney*, Remy

    Is this okay for a DGW? Obviously missing Berba, but keeping hold of Bale.

    2 FTs for DGW 33. I will get Fellaini for Snodgrass.

    Should I also:
    a) Sell both Gerrard and Sturridge for Wallcot and Giroud/Berba (-4);
    b) Sell one, keep one and which;
    c) Keep both and sell Benteke for Giroud/ Berba?

    Obviously I will know better after next GW and Sturridge situation then.

      No idea. It's the one big change i'd make to the scoring. I'd scrap the negative points for O.G's and give them to players who concede a penalty (whether it's converted or not).

      IMO about 8 out of every 10 own goals are completely fault free and just pure accident. I'd say the opposite is true of players who concede a penalty
