In Development – KPI Tables – Preview Movie

The latest addition to our members area is almost ready to go live. The “Key Performance Indicator” tables or “KPI” tables for short, are designed to use a series of key stats to allow our members to track form or change in performance in players.

For a while now we’ve been looking for a method of using our data to enable our members to assess player form – or at least track some key statistics that can be identified as indicators of form that may influence future Fantasy Football output, whilst also going some way to explain a recent rise or decline.

Firstly, we created tables that track the frequency of key stats or match events which indicate player performance such as “Minutes per shot on target” or “Minutes per touch in the box”. We’ve also included defensive indicators so that users who play Fantasy games where defensive actions come into play – (like Sky Sports and Play On) – can get further guidance from the tables. Indeed, stats such as “Minutes per Block” and “Minutes per Clearance” will immediately help those looking to identify defenders who are set to fare well in the new Fantasy Premier League bonus system.

All these statistics are useful in themselves when you consider that you can sort on any stat and slice the data by a Gameweek range or by home and away matches. However, the key ingredient we’ve added is the ability to create a second comparison table in the background and view tabular results that track the percentage change between the two tables. In this way, we can begin to get values that indicate form or perhaps a change in role and position. What you’ll get are results such as…

“Michu’s frequency of shots in the box increased by 23% when he played at home”

or even…

“Michu’s frequency of shots on target reduced by 38% over the final eight Gameweeks compared to the Gameweeks 1-30.”

These tables and this ability to compare frequency data can be used in a multitude of ways in order to find trends and provide quantitative data on queries such as:

  • Which players improved the most for the key indicators from the 2011/12 season?
  • Which players suffered the biggest decline in the key indicators away from home compared to home matches?
  • Just how much did Juan Mata decline in the key attacking indicators over the last eight Gameweeks compared to the rest of his season?
  • Which of the Chelsea midfield showed improvement over the same window?
  • How was Robin Van Persie’s key indicators affected by Wayne Rooney’s omission from United’s lineup?

Our members will be able to use the numbers produced to help them assess how a change in position affected a player, or even just to study which players, over the “last four Gameweeks”, have improved the most over the key indicators, since last season or earlier in the year. From now on, when we think Michu has dropped off in form, we can check and get percentage values for key stats to assess whether this is really the case and, at the same time, assess if any of his team-mates have benefited.

We’ll be using the KPI tables to generate new members articles and to add further analysis to our regular members articles. We’ll be rolling out our first members article, inspired by the new KPI data, later this week to help guide your initial squad selection.

For now, take a look at the preview movie below to see the tables in action. We hope to have the KPI tables available in our Members Area later this week.

    Collins, Agger, Turner, Clyne, Dawson
    Bale, Hazard, Walcott, Mirallas, Thomas
    Rodriquez, Aguero, Aspas

Tried to get a nice balance not to great on Aspas but if no Sturridge or Suarez first game he is decent lpool cover

Arsenal had one of the best defensive records in the premier league last season.

Shots conceded per game was only 10.6 3rd overall
Tackles per game was 19.7 5th overall
Interceptions per game 16.7 8th overall
Fouls per game 10.1 2nd overall

Shots allowed on Arsenal goal were kept to a bare minimum, tackles made per game per player and interceptions per game made are not justified in such a table due to the ball being played around or through the opposition. And Arsenal conceding or giving so few fouls, only Manchester United came above them.

And when you considered defenders come in at 5.5 million, plus small attacking potential from across the back line, I'd consider it a bargain especially when they came off such a strong finishing to the league.

FYI Mertsacker was first choice partner with Verm, but since Verm been injured Kosh has taken his place. But words from Wenger, he still considered Verm club captain, so I'd consider Kosh to have his place under threat more likely than Mertsacker, but consider Verm can also play on the wing, I suppose all 3 could end up keeping there place with either Gibbs or Sagna losing out.

Keep eyes on Jenkinson too imo.
Sagna is 90% basically set to leave at the end of this season, and Jenkinson is next inline on the pecking order unless they decided to bring in another RWB. So if anything happens to Sagna, or even just bad form, Jenkinson at 4.5 would be a cheeky way into the Arsenal back line, I rate him highly, few others do however.

This is completely wrong. Vermaelen was dropped after some pretty shocking performances and the one against Spurs was the final straw.

After he was dropped Mertesacker and Koscielny were immense for the rest of the season and we didn't lose another game. They are our first choice centre backs, regardless of whether Vermaelen officially keeps the armband.

None of them are a threat to Gibbs, Monreal, Sagna and Jenko for the fullback places.

I am talking about recent events not his shocking displays vs United last season. Vermaelen is out for the start of this season but comes in at 5.5, if things ain't going peachy at the start of this season you could easily see Kosh (who I see the weaker of the two) being benched in place of Verm.

yeah, I was talking to my mate today about this, He is a cardiff supporter. in the 2nd half of the season malky dropped him deeper into midfield and it seemed to sap his confidence big time. It got to the stage where sometimes he wasn't really getting much gametime and Bo pretty much took his place. this is what i was told.

Why you need RVP and Bale:

Yes, they're expensive. But they're also proven to be the most effective, reliable players in the game by a long way. On that basis, the liklihood is that their price is only going to go up. Get them early or you could find yourself having to swallow your pride and buy them for even more. You get one double week to begin with when captaincy will be elsewhere. After that, these two are the nailed on choices all season for the most important element of the game.

As time goes by their starting value as a proportion of your overall value will decrease. Catch the early risers and by January your squad will be worth 105mil + and bargains will have presented themselves elsewhere. Buying them both eliminates the need to knee-jerk them straight back in and gives you the chance to take a few cheap punts in the areas of the team it makes sense to tinker with more freely. With regards to the biggest of all hitters, overcomplicating things could be disastrous.

I think the big question is will having a front line of Sturridge/Carroll/Lambert cover RVP and whoever else you can fit in.
One thing I think a lot of people aren't taking into account is no having RVP eliminates probably the main (C) choice in the game.
Are you going to feel confident going into the GW with the armband on Sturridge when RVP has Palace at home?
I think if you can fit RVP and Bale into your team do it! (C) choices alone make up 25% of your overall score.
It's going to be a lot harder getting him in your team when he's 14.5!

Last season Chelsea were in the Club World Cup, which meant that there was less spare time to schedule the postponed game. As they aren't in it this year, the schedule is much more flexible and therefore it probably won't be in GW1

Those thinking of going without Chelsea coverage in the beginning of the season. Think again.

Mourinho was unbeaten in his first eight league games when in his first, triumphant title-winning season; in 2005/06 they won their first nine games; in 2006/07 they won seven of the opening nine.

At Inter Milan in 2008/09 they won 13 of their opening 15 league games; the following season, when they won the Champions League, they started the season with nine wins from 11 Serie A games.

When he moved to Real Madrid, Los Blancos won 10 of their opening 12 games in La Liga in 2010/11; 13 in the opening 15 the following season; even in his final, disastrous season at the Bernabeu, Real Madrid won eight of their opening 12 games..

    a) Mirrallas and Carroll to Nolan and Kone
    b) Mirallas and RvW to Snodgrass and Kone
    c) Ramirez and RvW to Nolan and J-Rod

    Okay, I think I've cracked a way of crowbarring in both Bale and RVP;

    Foster / Boruc

Shaw / Kosc / Coleman / Turner / Parr (can make Kosc Azpil when the DGW is set)

    Bellamy / Bale / Haz / Mirallas / Thomas

    Sturridge / RVP / Anelka

look good or am I deluding myself?

I am having enough of Rooney. He thinks he is bigger than the club and should automatically start over Kags and RVp and doesn't want to work to get into the team. He demanded to leave in 2010 only to get more money, which was a sign of bad things to come. Since then his form has got worse and so has his attitude. I bet if we were to offer him more money he would shutup.

I still think he's a world class fwd with loads to offer. If he gets assurances he'll start up top with RvP each game he'll stay. He want to play as a fwd, and rightly so IMO.
