PlayON Returns To The Scout

We’re delighted to announce that Fantasy Football Scout will be supporting PlayON over the coming season – a weekly Fantasy game which debuted on the site at the tail-end of the last campaign. Many of our community tried the game out at that time and, due to the positive reaction from you and our own enjoyment in playing the game, we’re now supporting the game for the duration of the 2013/14 season.

This will mean some pre-season guides which will outline the deeper strategies of the game next week, with regular weekly articles offering tips for the forthcoming Gameweek. We’ll also be running official Fantasy Football Scout game with prize pools donated by PlayON. There’s also plans for specific PlayON tables for our members, to help give them that extra edge. More on all that to come.

What is PlayON?

The concept of PlayON is beautifully simple, although there is a welcome level of depth underpinning the game; a factor that will appeal to the more seasoned Fantasy manager.

You pick a starting eleven from the Premier League squads, limited by a budget of £100 million. There is no restriction on the number of players you can sign from each club and you must build your squad in a 4-4-2 formation. Easy.

The depth comes in when you start to look at player prices. These vary week to week and are based on an algorithm that measures recent performance and adjusts their price accordingly. With a bit of research and knowledge, then, you can easily spot a bargain to hopefully give you an edge. You can resave your team as many times as you want right up to 2 hours before the first kick-off. It’s your last saved team that gets entered into all your games.

Once your team is built, this can then be used to enter a number of multiplayer games or one-on-one challenges. You can play a free multiplayer game without making a deposit or just challenge another player for fun.

Alternatively, you can play for cash. Entering a multiplayer game for a set stake, you’ll have a chance of wining your share of the pot should you finish high enough in the rankings. Similarly, you can challenge another player one-on-one with a slider used to select the amount at stake. The likes of Robbie Fowler, Gareth Southgate and Opta Joe are all playing the game and are there to be challenged.

Why Should I Play?

Apart from the pricing system giving the knowledgeable Fantasy manager an edge, PlayON’s scoring system plays into the hands of those familiar and comfortable with statistics.

While goals, assists and clean sheets all contribute big points to your players’ totals, you also score points for shots on target, saves, interceptions, clearances and tackles. All the data is gathered from Opta so, those Scout visitors who have access to our Members area will have a real edge when it comes to team selection. Using our tables and player comparison tool, you can quickly begin to unearth some gems when you couple this with the player pricing.

The live matchday page is also worth experiencing. Once the matches kick-off, you can watch a live feed of the match events that effect your team with your points totting up as they roll in, vidiprinter style. The standings in your games are also updated live so you can see how you’re faring and if you’re currently in the money.

The game is also developing communities of players, united under their own club. Simply choose the club you wish to represent. Each week you play your team points get added to your club total. In addition, the top points scorer from each club represents the club in the “League of Titans” the following week. Every 10 weeks, the top two teams in each division are promoted and the bottom 2 teams are relegated. We’ll bring you more on this feature next week.

How Do I Start?

It’s all pretty easy. Register an account at PlayON at www.playon.co.uk. You don’t have to make a deposit as you can play the free multiplayer games without shelling out.

We’ve been set up as Ambassadors in the game along with Fowler, Southgate and OptaJoe. This doesn’t mean we’ll be handing out Ferrero Rocher before the match but it does mean we get a fancy badge and can set up multiplayer games and be challenged for one-on-ones.

There is a “Freebie” game running that all can join and you can find us and challenge our team to a one-on-one game for £1. You can also easily create your own games for you and a group of mates. You’ll also find the Fantasy Football Scout team in the “Ambassadors Game”.

As it is the start of the season, PlayON have an offer for people creating a multiplayer game for their friends – set up a real money game for Gameweek 1 and when 10 people join, PlayON will add a £10 bonus to the pot so everyone benefits.

We’ve also got our own regular Fantasy Football Scout multiplayer game dedicated to our community. That’s just £2 to enter and PlayON are guaranteeing a £500 prize pot in Gameweek 1 – potentially, this offers a fine start to the season for one of our community members. PlayON will also be providing more guarantees and bonuses each month throughout the season – so get involved!

You have to be aged over 18 to play real money games at PlayON and if you do wager some cash, please remember to gamble responsibly.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Hey everyone:

    I have been seeing alot of posts for how 'punty' choices like Aspas, Dzeko, Lukaku and Sturridge seem to be.

    That said, what would an example of a 'safe' front 3 be?

      RVP - Soldado - Sturridge (My Front Three, looks safe enough to me.)

      I consider my front three rather safe.

      Soldado, Benteke, Lambert

      Other "safe" options include Giroud and RVP.

      People who mention safeness must easily forget there is a DGW, and Lukaku/Benteke are perfectly viable options.

      'Safe' front 3 would probably be: RVP, Benteke, Berbatov. They will each lead the line for their respective team each game and likely be involved in most goals.

      Well, looks like this did nothing but make things foggier. Sturridge, Giroud and Soldado are somehow 'safe' picks.

      Its hard to make any kind of frontline that I feel safe with.

      Makes me consider RVP that much more.

    Can anyone help me pick my 3rd Striker out of:
    A. Altidore
    B. Hooper
    C. RVW

    Hooper seems to be a typical goal poacher with good strength and is quite direct with a good shot. Proven in the weakest of the 3 leagues.

    RVW seems the weakest and smallest of the bunch. Great instincts and quick reaction to match with the ability to score from anywhere including his head. His finishing although good does not seem to be as lethal as the other 2. Proven in arguably the strong of the 3 leagues.

    Altidore seems similar to be Hooper but with a more lethal shot and even stronger. Can finish with both left and right. Probably the most complete striker of the 3 but also the slowest. Proven in Ere division.

    Can't separate them. My logic so far: Can't decide between RVW and Hooper... So better go for Altidore...

    Any of these guys on penalties?.. if so this would make my decisions easier.

      I wouldn't touch RVW.

      Altidore is a punt in their early good fixtures but Sunderland have had a lot of changes and I can't see him scoring too well.

      Hooper would be my pick (if I ha to choose from the 3). Has good fixtures, in a better team and has been in good form over preseason.

    Can I have any ideas on a couple things I'm mulling over at the moment?

    Mbiwa on Saylor should start CB for Newcastle to take advantage of their fixtures after GW1?

    And

    HBA and Thomas or

    Snodgrass and Kim (JRod is my only other bench option for both options)

        Kim or thomas would be bench fodder most weeks. I would be all over HBA if they didn't play ManC straight up. I would go Nolan for GW1 then HBA but I don't want to plan trades as I'm sure some roughy will bag a brace straight up and look to rise 0.3 before GW2.

        True, but I've already got Mirallas and have another midrangish midfield spot to be filled. Nolan/Snodgrass don't really excite me, so I'm considering Chadli. May just go with Oscar as my third Chelsea player, probably safer and makes an exit strategy easier.

    Don't recall seeing Gylfi Sigurdsson appearing in any teams round here. £7m this season and quite likely to be quite a key attacking figure with Dempsey gone and Bale in limbo. His stats per minute as still very impressive over the 2 seasons and he did seem to be rediscovering form towards the end of last season.

    Mignolet - Lewis

    Ivanovic - Shaw - Collins - Chester - Brayford

      Pretty standard team you've got.

      I'd say hold on to that 2m and use it to swap out Lukaku after the DGW.

      Dzeko might not be a good long term option either.

    Just had a look to see if Soldado will start Palace

    + Adebayor on compassionate leave
    + Defoe has a slight knock
    + Should get some minutes V Espanyol
    + Palace are crap
    + Bale may not be fit

    - Vertonghen got eased in
    - Adebayor had to get fully fit before he started
    - If Bale is fit they can rely on the one man team again

      What better way to ease in Soldado then an easy fixture against Palace?

      But honestly, I don't think Spurs paid all that money to have Soldado warming benches. He's clearly ahead of Adebayor and Defoe.

    I did post this once before, but a couple of weeks ago, at a very different time of day. Thought it might be of interest to the DeadZone:

    One thing that is always worth looking out for is spells where sides have 3 home games in 4, especially if this is against relatively easy opposition. Looking at the first 12 gameweeks sees the following sets of such fixtures:

    Aston Villa (GW 6-9): MCI hul TOT EVE
    Aston Villa (GW 8-11): TOT EVE whm CAR
    Chelsea (GW 8-11): CAR MCI new WBA
    Fulham (GW 4-7): WBA che CAR STO
    Hull (GW 4-7): CAR new WHM AVL
    Man United (GW 6-9): WBA sun SOT STO
    Man United (GW 8-11): SOT STO ful ARS
    Newcastle (GW 2-5): WHM FUL avl HUL
    Southampton (GW 4-7): WHM liv CPL SWA
    Southampton (GW 6-9): CPL SWA mun FUL
    Sunderland (GW 4-7): ARS wba LIV MUN
    Sunderland (GW 6-9): LIV MUN swa NEW
    Swansea (GW 6-9): ARS sot SUN WHM
    Swansea (GW 8-11): SUN WHM car STO
    Tottenham: (GW 4-7): NOR car CHE WHM
    Tottenham (GW 6-9): CHE WHM avl HUL

    Looking at the above, particularly attractive are:

    Chelsea GW 8-11 Ok, it includes City at home, but this is Chelsea, so looks tempting
    Fulham GW 4-7 - Chelsea away is nasty but the 3 home games look good
    Hull GW 4-7 - If Hull start at all well, this could be tempting
    Man Utd GW 6-9 - irresistible, RVP a must-have?
    Newcastle GW 2-5 - having a Newcastle player from gw2 looks a must.
    Southampton GW 4-9 (i.e. both) - two nasty away games, but 4 good home fixtures.
    Swansea GW 8-11 - time to think about Michu. Lovely fixtures.
    Tottenham GW 4-9 (i.e. both) - Chelsea at home not great, but otherwise 5 lovely fixtures

    Worth saying that Sunderland's spell from GW 4-7 is particularly nasty, given they have 3 home fixtures out of 4.

    I hadn't previously realised how much I might crave Newcastle cover from gw2.

        Not a fan of your GW 2 and 3 plans

        Wouldn't be happy playing Kim every week just to have RVP

        Lukaku > J Rod
        Hazard > Snodgrass
        Dzeko > RVP ?

        You will want to get rid of Dzeko at some point

      Toure and Migs are cheaper ways into Liverpool's defense.

      If you've got the money, GJ is definitely worth it, though.

            Not when you look at ppg when healthy. Enrique was injured quite a bit last season.

            Enrique 2257mins ....134pts
            Glen 3223...........142pts

            Enrique was far superior when fit.

    Rate My Team! Quite keen on Torres for GW1, will monitor Mata's injury and Nolan and JRod will alternate with each other:

    Mignolet, (Lewis)
    Mertesacker, Coleman, Collins (Parr, Brayford)
    Mata, Coutihno, Hazard (c), Nolan, Snodgrass
    Torres, Soldado (Jrod)

      You're playing a 3-5-2 formation, but you don't have the same caliber of midfielders that I've seen with other 3-5-2 teams.

      Those types of teams typically run four 9.0 options and a mid-price 7.0-7.5 option.

      Example: Walcott, Hazard, Coutinho, Silva, Mirallas

    OK. I;m still thinking about:
    The GW1 and GW2.

    a) Nolan
    b) Mirallas
    c) Snodgrass
    d) Adam Johnson

    Right now I pick Mirallas. But from theory.
    Nolan vs Cardiff
    + -->
    1) Threat in goals.
    2) vs Championship team.
    3) Home
    - -->
    1) clean sheet a lot last season in championship.
    2) Without Carrol

    Nolan vs NU.
    + -->
    1) Threat in goals.
    - -->
    1) vs a tough team
    2) Away

    Mirallas vs Norwich
    + -->
    1) Threat in goals.
    2) No Bassong
    - -->
    1) Away

    Mirallas vs WBA
    + -->
    1) Threat in goals
    2) Home

    Snodgrass vs Everton
    + -->
    1) Set pieces
    2) Assists
    3) Bonus Point
    4) Home
    - -->
    1) Tough one

    Snodgrass vs Hull
    + -->
    1) Set pieces
    2) Assists
    3) Bonus point
    4) Weaker team.
    - -->
    1) Away

    Adam Johnson vs Fulham
    + -->
    1) Assists
    2) Home
    - -->
    1) None

    Johnson vs Southampton
    + -->
    1) Assists
    2) Weak defense
    - -->
    1) Away

    In conclusion,
    1) Snodgrass
    2) Johnson or Mirallas (50:50)
    3) Nolan.

        Right now IMO, The rank is will be
        1) C
        2) B/D
        3) A.

        But I'm still having Mirallas in my team.
