PlayON Returns To The Scout

We’re delighted to announce that Fantasy Football Scout will be supporting PlayON over the coming season – a weekly Fantasy game which debuted on the site at the tail-end of the last campaign. Many of our community tried the game out at that time and, due to the positive reaction from you and our own enjoyment in playing the game, we’re now supporting the game for the duration of the 2013/14 season.

This will mean some pre-season guides which will outline the deeper strategies of the game next week, with regular weekly articles offering tips for the forthcoming Gameweek. We’ll also be running official Fantasy Football Scout game with prize pools donated by PlayON. There’s also plans for specific PlayON tables for our members, to help give them that extra edge. More on all that to come.

What is PlayON?

The concept of PlayON is beautifully simple, although there is a welcome level of depth underpinning the game; a factor that will appeal to the more seasoned Fantasy manager.

You pick a starting eleven from the Premier League squads, limited by a budget of £100 million. There is no restriction on the number of players you can sign from each club and you must build your squad in a 4-4-2 formation. Easy.

The depth comes in when you start to look at player prices. These vary week to week and are based on an algorithm that measures recent performance and adjusts their price accordingly. With a bit of research and knowledge, then, you can easily spot a bargain to hopefully give you an edge. You can resave your team as many times as you want right up to 2 hours before the first kick-off. It’s your last saved team that gets entered into all your games.

Once your team is built, this can then be used to enter a number of multiplayer games or one-on-one challenges. You can play a free multiplayer game without making a deposit or just challenge another player for fun.

Alternatively, you can play for cash. Entering a multiplayer game for a set stake, you’ll have a chance of wining your share of the pot should you finish high enough in the rankings. Similarly, you can challenge another player one-on-one with a slider used to select the amount at stake. The likes of Robbie Fowler, Gareth Southgate and Opta Joe are all playing the game and are there to be challenged.

Why Should I Play?

Apart from the pricing system giving the knowledgeable Fantasy manager an edge, PlayON’s scoring system plays into the hands of those familiar and comfortable with statistics.

While goals, assists and clean sheets all contribute big points to your players’ totals, you also score points for shots on target, saves, interceptions, clearances and tackles. All the data is gathered from Opta so, those Scout visitors who have access to our Members area will have a real edge when it comes to team selection. Using our tables and player comparison tool, you can quickly begin to unearth some gems when you couple this with the player pricing.

The live matchday page is also worth experiencing. Once the matches kick-off, you can watch a live feed of the match events that effect your team with your points totting up as they roll in, vidiprinter style. The standings in your games are also updated live so you can see how you’re faring and if you’re currently in the money.

The game is also developing communities of players, united under their own club. Simply choose the club you wish to represent. Each week you play your team points get added to your club total. In addition, the top points scorer from each club represents the club in the “League of Titans” the following week. Every 10 weeks, the top two teams in each division are promoted and the bottom 2 teams are relegated. We’ll bring you more on this feature next week.

How Do I Start?

It’s all pretty easy. Register an account at PlayON at www.playon.co.uk. You don’t have to make a deposit as you can play the free multiplayer games without shelling out.

We’ve been set up as Ambassadors in the game along with Fowler, Southgate and OptaJoe. This doesn’t mean we’ll be handing out Ferrero Rocher before the match but it does mean we get a fancy badge and can set up multiplayer games and be challenged for one-on-ones.

There is a “Freebie” game running that all can join and you can find us and challenge our team to a one-on-one game for £1. You can also easily create your own games for you and a group of mates. You’ll also find the Fantasy Football Scout team in the “Ambassadors Game”.

As it is the start of the season, PlayON have an offer for people creating a multiplayer game for their friends – set up a real money game for Gameweek 1 and when 10 people join, PlayON will add a £10 bonus to the pot so everyone benefits.

We’ve also got our own regular Fantasy Football Scout multiplayer game dedicated to our community. That’s just £2 to enter and PlayON are guaranteeing a £500 prize pot in Gameweek 1 – potentially, this offers a fine start to the season for one of our community members. PlayON will also be providing more guarantees and bonuses each month throughout the season – so get involved!

You have to be aged over 18 to play real money games at PlayON and if you do wager some cash, please remember to gamble responsibly.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

If you currently have RVP in your side would you still include him if he blanks in the charity shield and Man U look rubbish?

If you don't currently have RVP will you be able to resist if Man U destroy Wigan and Van the Man gets a hat trick?

I like that Cech is basically 99% to play both games. Ivanovic is slightly riskier, but has the upside. I only want one Chelsea attacker.

yeah, I can't argue with your logic. 4 chances at a CS could go either way, and is a risk/gain strategy as I'm sure you're aware. I have cech, hazard, benteke for now

Will dzeko start or is he a gamble? If he was nailed on he should be in every team as aguero is so expensive & uncertainty over negredo's minutes & speed of adaption to PL
If i was you id swap mirallas&turner for baines&thomas & play a back 4. I'm firmly of the opinion that baines scores more points than mirallas!
One other thing, i think mignolet's a better bet than cech. Will save you at least 4 points in the first 3 weeks due to not having to waste a transfer getting rid of cech in GW3

I never play 4 defenders except in extremis. If you're right about Baines, then he has to be part of a back 3. As for Cech, I'm hoping he'll get me an extra 6 in gw1 to make up for the possible extra tfer. Might go for an early w/c anyway.

This could be the year of the back 4, or even the back 5. Apparently the new BP system favours defenders a bit more than previously. Hard to know until a few weeks have lapsed though.
But its not beyond possibility that come early sept we've all ised WC's & are playing 5-3-2 with Bale & RVP

Heh interesting, but I still think attacking players is where it's at. They will still dominate the baps overall, even if defenders get a few more than before. Btw I am a fan of Baines, but there is just too much value elsewhere in defence to fit him in - I've tried!

As to Dzeko, I am a bit worried about him. I'm hoping he starts at least the first few games.

            Thanks for the comments btw.

Have been drafting teams with and without RVP since the game opened and I'm still not decided, leaning towards starting with the big dutchman. Still think you can create a decent team with him.

Throwing my latest team out there...

    Mannone

    Collins / Turner / Cole*

    Walcott / Hazard* / Snod / Mirallas

    Soldado / RVP / JRod

Bench: Boruc / Shaw / Thomas / Chester

Cole->4.5m allows mirallas to be upgraded to another heavy hitter midfielder...

    Double Gameweek Choices:

The first choice you have to make is how many players you are going to go for in the double gameweek. This will be somewhere between 1-5.

1 player- (probably Hazard) makes the following weeks alot easier with transfer flexibility.

2 players - Hazard + (See below). Still pretty easy when it comes to transfers.

3 players- Hazard + 2 (See below). Pretty popular choice, maximises Chelseas potential and gets you off to good start but leaves you a little unflexible with transfers. Could Also be Hazard + (1 chelsea player) + (Benteke, maybe Weiman).

4 players - Hazard + (2 chelsea players) + Benteke (or Weiman). You are probably ok with the prospect of taking hits if you are planning this.

5 players- Hazard + (2 chelsea players) + (Benteke & Weiman). An early wildcard is in your plans.

In my opinion 2 or 3 players is the way to go with Chelsea's terrible fixtures, including a blank, in the following 3 weeks. I also recommend avoiding Aston Villa players altogether, including Benteke and Weiman, both games are away and against difficult opposition.

The way I see Chelsea's players is in 2 categories- Safe choices vs Potential players

    Safe Choices: Hazard, Cech, Cole

    Potential Players: Lukaku, Ivanovic

I think these are the 5 you should be chosing from especially after reading Spectre's post earlier on.

Hazard is classed as a safe choice because 'everyone' will have him and 'everyone' will be captaining him.

That leaves either 1 or 2 of Cech, Cole, Ivanovic & Lukaku.

I would cancel out Cole because if you want safe cleansheets Cech is a better bet and Cech can take up a goalkeeping sub position. And there is more chance of savepoints then Cole getting an assist. Plus the small chance of Bertrand starting the second game.

    That leaves 4 options:

    1) Hazard & Cech: 2 players who will most likely start both games, Hazard is standard and Cech picks up the cleansheets that Ivanovic would get.

    2) Hazard & Ivanovic: Ivanovic could be a great option in defence and I think it can be described as 80% that he will start both games and could explode like last year.

    3) Hazard and Lukaku: People who are getting Lukaku are comfortable with the proposition that he might be on the bench for the 2nd game.

With the 3 players I think it is too risky to go with BOTH Ivanovic and Lukaku and I dont think one needs to double up on Cech and Ivanovic (Spread the risk). That leaves:

4)Hazard, Cech and Lukaku: the best option in my opinion if you are going with 3 players.

So to conclude that leaves 4 options:

    1) Hazard & Cech; 2) Hazard & Ivanovic; 3) Hazard & Lukaku; 4)Hazard, Cech and Lukaku

I am going with option 1 because I have a tendency towards safety (some call it cowardice) but I think the other 3 options are a very good prospect aswell.

On a further sidenote: I think there is a big possibility of rotation in the 2nd game with Mourinho no doubt prioritising ManUnited 5 days later and the chance to put all the pressure on Moyes by going 6 points ahead very early in the season.

Because Mata is 0.5 more expensive than Hazard and currently has an injury. Oscar won't get the minutes or the scores to justify selection and unlike Mata is not an alternative to Hazard.

Lampard or Oscar makes it harder to get in Coutinho and Walcott. Lampard is a better shout than Oscar because of penalties.

no I'm not sure at all. But one game is enough for either to explode. I also prefer having attacking options as I'll invariably want to transfer the flavour of the week MID/FWD in GW2, and not use it on a boring defender swap.

my Mid is Nolan, Hazard, Walcott, Coutinho and Thomas as of now.

My main concern is about Nolan. I will surely change him to an inform Mid around 7.5 after 4-5 GWs. My other options are Mirallas and Snodgrass.

So Nolan or Mirallas or Snodgrass or any other options as 4th mid?

      Don't rotate a 6.5 and a 7

Personally I think Navas is a bit overrated and I would wait and see on the game time, but some big hitter and a 4.5/5.0 is the way to go
