PlayON Player Picks – Gameweek 2

With John Terry and Olivier Giroud delivering from our Gameweek 1 picks to help the Fantasy Football Scout lineup to winnings, it’s time to turn our attention to another weekend of action and assess what the PlayON player list has to offer.

If you’re new to PlayON, read this season’s introduction article for more information. If you’re already a veteran, listen up for this week’s player selection.

Gameweek 2 Player Picks

Goalkeeper – Artur Boruc
A clean sheet at the Hawthorns on day one included a world class save at the death to preserve the three points for Mauricio Pochettino’s side. Boruc could be busy again when Sunderland roll up to St Mary’s but Paolo Di Canio’s side relied on long-range efforts in their opener with Fulham and the Polish stopper should be up to the task of keeping them at bay. At just 7.1m on PlayON this weekend, Boruc offers an excellent route in for those contemplating Saints defensive cover.

Defender – Pablo Zabaleta
Even with injuries at the back, City will be well fancied to gain a second clean sheet of the season when they face newly promoted Cardiff on Sunday. Fresh from a new four-year deal, Zabaletta will be a key figure in Manuel Pellegrini’s defence and, having displayed his attacking threat with an assist against Newcastle on Monday, looks good value at just 8.8m when you consider the other prices on offer in the City rearguard.

Midfielder – David Silva
City will also be backed to get goals in Wales. They looked fluid and potent in the Magpies drubbing and, despite the home side’s resistance, it’s difficult to see Malky MacKay’s team keeping them out. Silva opened his account in the win over Alan Pardew’s men and will go into the weekend clash full of confidence and ready to orchestrate another victory. Priced at just 8.6m in PlayON, he’s hard to ignore and looks a little more secure of a start, with rotation concerns still affecting our assessment of City’s forwards.

Forward – Nikica Jelavic
The Croatian was given the nod in the Everton attack at Carrow Road and looked spritely and threatening in the 2-2 draw. He’ll surely be handed another start at home to the Baggies this weekend and, while the likes of Kevin Mirallas and Leighton Baines demand double figure fees, Jelavic can be acquired for our strike force for just 9.0m. It rarely pays to take a PlayON gamble up top but Jelavic appears to be a risk worth taking for that price.

How To Play

Once your starting XI is built (you can change your team as many times as you like up to two hours before the first kick-off) you can compete for cash. Entering a multiplayer game for a set stake, you’ll have a chance of wining your share of the pot should you finish high enough in the rankings.

Similarly, you can challenge another player to a one-on-one game, selecting the amount at stake. The likes of Robbie Fowler, Gareth Southgate and Opta Joe are all playing the game and are there to be challenged. The Fantasy Football Scout team is also available to challenge and has a 78% win rate – come and wipe the smile off our face.

The Fantasy Football Scout Game

We’ve also got a £2 multiplayer game, dedicated to our community, which is now open with the prize pot building.

Challenge Your Mates

You can also set up your own multiplayer games with your mates. While we have some Fantasy Football Scout games to enter, there’s an incentive to set up your own this week.

If you set up a £2 game and get 5 players and £10 in the pot, PlayON will add an extra £5 in prize money to your game.

Create your own game at www.playon.co.uk.

Finally, a reminder that we have published a strategy guide, offering some tips for getting the most from your PlayON lineup, right here.

You have to be over 18 to enter cash games at PlayON. If you do wager some cash, please remember to gamble responsibly.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Anybody up for a rational discussion about the prospects of Taraabt and Ben Arfa the coming gameweeks?

Ben Arfa - thought he looked fresh and ready for a new sesaon on monday considering the circumstances. Great fixtures. Also hard to say how bad newcastle really are, when City were so brilliant in all aspects of the game. I am tempted!

Taraabt - Played the full game in fulhams win, put a good workshift in for the team and is a known favorite of martin jols. Could he be up for a productive spell?

he is as great as any attacking midfielders in the league, and wouldnt be at newcastle still if it wasnt for his injuries imo

HBA - The most threatening Newcastle player I reckon but they did look truly awful against City. The fixtures are tasty but I'm unconvinced that he'll ever get more than 7 points in a gameweek (not inc. baps). Too patchy in recent seasons for me.

Taraabt - Furthest forward Fulham player on the average position map. We know that he has no problem having a crack from distance, although his conversion rate is poor. I'm doubtful that Fulham will score much this season but if he gets a share of set pieces, then he could see a few assists.

All over Ben Arfa, at least for the next 7 weeks, solid fixtures and he looked sharp against City. Set piece taker as well as on pens so he looks to be picking up the points if they can get some goals going.

Taraabt is a bit of a head scratcher for me, has moments of brilliance but at times can over play it and from what i've see previously, can be a frustrating pick. Will need to see a bit more from him before getting considered.

Cabaye takes FKs and what about Cisse?

Am I wrong in thinking he isn't on FK and Pens?

The Guardian are suggested Willian doesn't want to join Spurs.

12:02pm BST "Big news about Willian's proposed move to the Premier League: word from a very reliable source has just filtered through to Guardian Towers that the Brazilian midfielder will not - repeat not - be moving to Tottenham. Despite completing a medical at White Hart Lane, he is no longer interested in a move to Spurs. In so far as you can presume anything in this game, it would appear he's off to Chelsea instead."

I know its different now as both teams have different players etc. but here is some facts about United vs. Chelsea in the previous Mourinho era.

He had 10 games vs. United - 5W, 3D, 2L. His teams scored 12 goals while United only scored 8.

In Mourinho's 16 meetings vs. United at all his previous clubs, Mourinho's teams have only conceded 14, scoring 18.

As I said, different players now etc. etc. but I am still strongly thinking of taking that armband off RVP.

Get two playing keepers, Boruc won't play West Brom every week and when he does Shaw gets a hit too.

Too top heavy on strikers. Downgrade Aguero to a 8.0 or less, but ideally to a 6.0 or less, striker and upgrade the midfield.

    Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaads!

So ummm, I wildcarded because I was going to go neg 12 otherwise.... I regret this decision immediately.

Just a few questions which I am unsure of the answer:

    1. Is Collins (WHU) nailed on week in week out? Is his spot under threat? So cheap WHU defence coverage.

    2. Would Jedinak be a good week in week out bench warmer? (Is he playing every week?)

    3. Chester or Ward out for COllins?

    4. Aguero or Dzeko? (Dzeko frees duh MONEYYY)

    Team is as follows:

    Mig/Harper
    Shaw/Zab/Coleman/Chester/Shaw
    Silva/Coutinho/Wallcot/Barkley/Jedinak
    Aguero/Soldaldo/Benteke

    Cheers laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaads

I'm at -12 now, but with a liveable team. You recommend not triggering the WC?

      Boruc (Mignolet)

      Soldado Giroud Sturridge

        But to answer questions:
        1. I don't think so, eventually you'll get burned on him sitting out.
        2. As a bench warmer, why not?
        3. Still trying to figure out who's strongest defensively of promoted teams. I'd maybe hang on to Chester, esp given Collins uncertainty.
        4. I don't really mess with City attack. So much rotation. If it's Aguero, you'll slit wrists if you have 11m on the bench. So, Dzeko with mentality of him as mostly an impact sub?

Hmmm I was on -12 but was giong to go to -16... that's why I wildcarded.

You look like you have a decent team so probably don't.

However, are you playing H2H or traditional? I wildcarded because our H2H laegue is what I want to get ahead in.

I'm just doing traditional. I took tons of hits last season--something I want to try to learn from and avoid, but I needed to clear out dead weight (player I thought would play but wasn't, Olsson, Ivan and Lukaku and Kos because the Arsenal defense has all gone to the physio room).

Vincent Kompany is set to be side-lined for at least four weeks after picking up a groin injury against Newcastle.

"I prefer the doctor has the final word on this but I think he will be out for at least one month," confirmed Manuel Pellegrini.

"If we do strengthen [at centre back] it will not just be because of Vincent Kompany’s injury. We have a very good squad and we see what happens.

"Today or tomorrow we will know exactly how long Vincent will be out for."

Pellegrini says Kompany could be out for a month with a groin injury but Nastasic has been 'working normally' this week.

Need some advice on transfers and whether to take any hits and when.

        Boruc/ (Mannone)

        Coleman/ Koscielny/ Zabaleta (Toure, Rat)

        Hazard/ Silva/ Coutinho/ Walcott (koren)

        Lukaku/ Anelka/ Benteke

So, I'm struggling here. Obviously I need to replace Anelka but at at 5.5, who do I get?
Also, I need to remove chelsea for GW3, how should I go about that? I feel like Lukaku is going finally going to get some gametime this week.
Finally, do i sub koscielny out for Toure or Rat?

        Here's my team:

        Foster (Davis)

        Whitakker Coleman Evra Ivanovic Zabaleta

        Nolan Hazard Coutinho Walcott (Colback)

        Soldado (Lukaku, Anelka)

        ---

I've already made one transfer (Coleman on Distin).

Now I have a problem with my forwards - Lukaku didn't bring me the points I've expected.

So, I have a dilemma now - to buy Rickie Lambert or Edin Dzeko.

I have worries if Dzeko will start the next games or City's manager is going to play Aguero and Balotelli.

And I've been thinkin' who's more stable - Hazard or Lampard?

        Thank you in advance, guys!
