PlayON Player Picks – Gameweek 2

With John Terry and Olivier Giroud delivering from our Gameweek 1 picks to help the Fantasy Football Scout lineup to winnings, it’s time to turn our attention to another weekend of action and assess what the PlayON player list has to offer.

If you’re new to PlayON, read this season’s introduction article for more information. If you’re already a veteran, listen up for this week’s player selection.

Gameweek 2 Player Picks

Goalkeeper – Artur Boruc
A clean sheet at the Hawthorns on day one included a world class save at the death to preserve the three points for Mauricio Pochettino’s side. Boruc could be busy again when Sunderland roll up to St Mary’s but Paolo Di Canio’s side relied on long-range efforts in their opener with Fulham and the Polish stopper should be up to the task of keeping them at bay. At just 7.1m on PlayON this weekend, Boruc offers an excellent route in for those contemplating Saints defensive cover.

Defender – Pablo Zabaleta
Even with injuries at the back, City will be well fancied to gain a second clean sheet of the season when they face newly promoted Cardiff on Sunday. Fresh from a new four-year deal, Zabaletta will be a key figure in Manuel Pellegrini’s defence and, having displayed his attacking threat with an assist against Newcastle on Monday, looks good value at just 8.8m when you consider the other prices on offer in the City rearguard.

Midfielder – David Silva
City will also be backed to get goals in Wales. They looked fluid and potent in the Magpies drubbing and, despite the home side’s resistance, it’s difficult to see Malky MacKay’s team keeping them out. Silva opened his account in the win over Alan Pardew’s men and will go into the weekend clash full of confidence and ready to orchestrate another victory. Priced at just 8.6m in PlayON, he’s hard to ignore and looks a little more secure of a start, with rotation concerns still affecting our assessment of City’s forwards.

Forward – Nikica Jelavic
The Croatian was given the nod in the Everton attack at Carrow Road and looked spritely and threatening in the 2-2 draw. He’ll surely be handed another start at home to the Baggies this weekend and, while the likes of Kevin Mirallas and Leighton Baines demand double figure fees, Jelavic can be acquired for our strike force for just 9.0m. It rarely pays to take a PlayON gamble up top but Jelavic appears to be a risk worth taking for that price.

How To Play

Once your starting XI is built (you can change your team as many times as you like up to two hours before the first kick-off) you can compete for cash. Entering a multiplayer game for a set stake, you’ll have a chance of wining your share of the pot should you finish high enough in the rankings.

Similarly, you can challenge another player to a one-on-one game, selecting the amount at stake. The likes of Robbie Fowler, Gareth Southgate and Opta Joe are all playing the game and are there to be challenged. The Fantasy Football Scout team is also available to challenge and has a 78% win rate – come and wipe the smile off our face.

The Fantasy Football Scout Game

We’ve also got a £2 multiplayer game, dedicated to our community, which is now open with the prize pot building.

Challenge Your Mates

You can also set up your own multiplayer games with your mates. While we have some Fantasy Football Scout games to enter, there’s an incentive to set up your own this week.

If you set up a £2 game and get 5 players and £10 in the pot, PlayON will add an extra £5 in prize money to your game.

Create your own game at www.playon.co.uk.

Finally, a reminder that we have published a strategy guide, offering some tips for getting the most from your PlayON lineup, right here.

You have to be over 18 to enter cash games at PlayON. If you do wager some cash, please remember to gamble responsibly.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Rate my wildcard team. This is not a knee jerk WC, I planned for it pre GW1 and it has been active since Saturday;

    Mignolet. 4.0

    Collins Chester Lescott Coleman Shaw

    Coutinho Silva Nolan Snodgrass Barkley

    RVP Soldado Dzeko

    I'm set on front three.

    Struggling between Mig/4.0 or rotating 4.5 GK's

Is Lescott a gamble, downgrade Collins upgrade to Zaba?

Also no knowledge of Snodgrass's pre season

Snodgrass is risky due to injury - however he is apparently all good to go now so hopefully he is decent.

      I'd probably go for mig/4.0

Coleman good, Shaw good, Chester - should be good this weekend?, Collins also good - So I guess you could downgrade and still play 343

I do trust Fulham's defence actually, at home at least.

I was more pointing him out tbh, I'm stuck on Amorebieta, just hope he's fit again by GW4 when I'll actually need him.

If Richardson was to miss GW4-7 then Briggs could be a decent option unless they buy a LB (very possible).

Coutinho is a great player but i just dont think for 9 he will score enough FPL points, I have taken him out and shared the extra cared around the def and attack,
        RVP 🙂
Sturridge, I had him until people told me Solado is a better pick,

The Anelka situation is really a cat amongst the pigeons, not just for Anelka owners. But for a lot of van Persie owners, as a lot of teams that started with van Persie, started with that cheap third striker. At £5.5 Anelka was the man for this position for a lot of players. A player they thought they could keep and rotate for the whole season with cheap midfielders, a player that would occasionally get them points, a player they wouldn't have to worry about moving on in the future with a wasted transfer, a player they could rely on because he was secure of minutes and it meant being able to have van Persie in their sides by having him. in fact a player they could potentially hold onto, as soon as another £5.5m or less player materialized as a better option in such a tiny pool of options.

So then, its no wonder Anelka had such high ownership going into the season! But now we are starting to see teams with 3 strong strikers INCLUDING van Persie, but perhaps weak at the back and in goal. These teams are being constructed with WC's after JUST 1 gameweek. Where really only few new players have materialized after the first bunch of games, and more players will materialize more and more over the coming weeks. I still say a wildcard is too early at this point, because of that reason, proven players are yet to materialize. Unless you have no other option, you cant field 11 for the next game and your team is in complete tatters for now and in the coming weeks and none of it can be made better by a couple of point hits. Then I suppose a wildcard may be understandable this early on in extreme circumstances. But using a wildcard so early could either be a masterstroke, or a catastrophic failure to your season. If you get it wrong and you kneejerk on all the players in GW1. There is no going back until the January WC, by this time you'll have taken point hits to take out those GW1 wet dreams, players will have materialized and become massive Fantasy options, options that you will struggle to get in....and they will rise drastically in price by January.

There is no going back. Committing to it now. As an early wildcarder last year, I spent my whole season trying to mend my team with point hits and never really started recovering until about 6 or 8 weeks from the seasons finish. I think I made 60 odd transfers last season, yes lots and lots of point hits 😯 just trying to recover my team. Concrete proof that its not always best to be blind with that early wildcard! Still I managed to get 2076 points and just scrape into the top 100,000. But I was still disappointed, because I knew it could of been much higher had I not pushed that wildcard button after one gameweek. My aim/goal mid season was to at least break into the top 100,000. I knew my season was over then. That was the only thing I could save some pride with. But, I suppose it was a learning experience and I've learned from my many mistakes playing last year, so I'm hoping for much better this season!

But going back to the Anelka situation, a lot of players will hold of on their wildcard and look to make that transfer out. But for many players, its simply not as easy as, for instance: Anelka out, Benteke in. MAJOR SURGERY is required in already weakened teams to be able to accommodate that sort of transfer, its really not that easy! And with no other cheap forward really hitting it of to begin with, (because it is still very early) you are taking a risk by moving sideways...and may have to do in the near future, what you should of done with Anelka in the first place.

Whilst the Anelka situation comes as a bit of a surprise, does it really? This could quite easily of been a long term injury, meaning the same problems arise for you. Injuries happen a lot right? Although you can never prepare for that sort of thing, you can set your team up so its flexible enough to make a change and keep the points coming in if you ever need to.

Unfortunately you knew the risks of an highly inflexible team, which could potentially make it very difficult in the future, for some it seems, that problem has come sooner rather than later.

Are we about to see people wildcard......and remove van Persie, to avoid such problems in the future by still having inflexible teams on a WC? Are we even about to see people take van Persie out and bring in a £9.0/£9.5m striker with a free transfer? In order to lump that saved £4.5/£5.0m on upgrading Anelka?

If you read all this, well done! If not, go easy on me!

Someone needs to do some analysis on the RVP vs Non-RVP teams. Maybe look at the front 3 score and compare over time?

Or even take the front 8 as the RVP owners are blighted by cheap mids.

A tricky affair admittedly. For now, I'm taking a punt on 3 good fwds and three bloody good mids without RVP.

    Got a real dilemma

    Boruc (foster)
    ivanovic murner coleman (chester ward)
    miralas wally hazard coutinho (kim)
    lukaku soldado dzeko...have 1m itb

    1) plan was to get rvp either in gw3 or 4 in place of lukaku but his price is dropping? so what should i do?

A: hazard + ivanvovic >> anymid upto 6.4 (lallana is the only option ic) + any def upto 4.5...then lukaku to RVP in gw3

B: hazard + ivanovic >> anymid upto 5.9 (joe cole?) + any def upto 5...then lukaku >> rvp in gw3

C: Lukaku + ivanovic >> lambert (threat of osvaldo?) + dawson. then hazard >> xxx in gw3 and then dzeko >> rvp in gw4

Am split between all three options as they all have merit..leaning towards C but rvp price may have gone up, makes me inflexible so potentially miss bandwagons etc.

This may seem like a no brainer... but Aguero or Dzeko?

I mean, the obvious answer is Aguero because he should be more nailed on...

BUT for some reason, all this pre season talk about Dzeko, his performance in the last game and his price makes me want to pick him instead.... AHHHH HALP!

Collins or Chester guys to start this week(I have HBA and Snoddy playing too)? I am feeling more like going with Chester given the home game and that Snoddy not scoring would hurt less due to his ownership being quite high. Votes please.
