PlayON Player Picks – Gameweek 2

With John Terry and Olivier Giroud delivering from our Gameweek 1 picks to help the Fantasy Football Scout lineup to winnings, it’s time to turn our attention to another weekend of action and assess what the PlayON player list has to offer.

If you’re new to PlayON, read this season’s introduction article for more information. If you’re already a veteran, listen up for this week’s player selection.

Gameweek 2 Player Picks

Goalkeeper – Artur Boruc
A clean sheet at the Hawthorns on day one included a world class save at the death to preserve the three points for Mauricio Pochettino’s side. Boruc could be busy again when Sunderland roll up to St Mary’s but Paolo Di Canio’s side relied on long-range efforts in their opener with Fulham and the Polish stopper should be up to the task of keeping them at bay. At just 7.1m on PlayON this weekend, Boruc offers an excellent route in for those contemplating Saints defensive cover.

Defender – Pablo Zabaleta
Even with injuries at the back, City will be well fancied to gain a second clean sheet of the season when they face newly promoted Cardiff on Sunday. Fresh from a new four-year deal, Zabaletta will be a key figure in Manuel Pellegrini’s defence and, having displayed his attacking threat with an assist against Newcastle on Monday, looks good value at just 8.8m when you consider the other prices on offer in the City rearguard.

Midfielder – David Silva
City will also be backed to get goals in Wales. They looked fluid and potent in the Magpies drubbing and, despite the home side’s resistance, it’s difficult to see Malky MacKay’s team keeping them out. Silva opened his account in the win over Alan Pardew’s men and will go into the weekend clash full of confidence and ready to orchestrate another victory. Priced at just 8.6m in PlayON, he’s hard to ignore and looks a little more secure of a start, with rotation concerns still affecting our assessment of City’s forwards.

Forward – Nikica Jelavic
The Croatian was given the nod in the Everton attack at Carrow Road and looked spritely and threatening in the 2-2 draw. He’ll surely be handed another start at home to the Baggies this weekend and, while the likes of Kevin Mirallas and Leighton Baines demand double figure fees, Jelavic can be acquired for our strike force for just 9.0m. It rarely pays to take a PlayON gamble up top but Jelavic appears to be a risk worth taking for that price.

How To Play

Once your starting XI is built (you can change your team as many times as you like up to two hours before the first kick-off) you can compete for cash. Entering a multiplayer game for a set stake, you’ll have a chance of wining your share of the pot should you finish high enough in the rankings.

Similarly, you can challenge another player to a one-on-one game, selecting the amount at stake. The likes of Robbie Fowler, Gareth Southgate and Opta Joe are all playing the game and are there to be challenged. The Fantasy Football Scout team is also available to challenge and has a 78% win rate – come and wipe the smile off our face.

The Fantasy Football Scout Game

We’ve also got a £2 multiplayer game, dedicated to our community, which is now open with the prize pot building.

Challenge Your Mates

You can also set up your own multiplayer games with your mates. While we have some Fantasy Football Scout games to enter, there’s an incentive to set up your own this week.

If you set up a £2 game and get 5 players and £10 in the pot, PlayON will add an extra £5 in prize money to your game.

Create your own game at www.playon.co.uk.

Finally, a reminder that we have published a strategy guide, offering some tips for getting the most from your PlayON lineup, right here.

You have to be over 18 to enter cash games at PlayON. If you do wager some cash, please remember to gamble responsibly.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Press might actually start asking the boss who is out, who is in and likely to play etc in a match as big as United Chelsea

no, Torres for mine. 3 strikers in 3 games, taking on champions at that.

I can see Lukaku having an impact role for us. Might as well be coming off the bench for Chelsea than coming off the bench for West Brom!

I think both could prove to be decent differentials. If I had to pick between them I'd go for Jelavic though, purely because I think Newcastle may struggle this year and Everton will outscore them.

Martinez seems to like an attacking approach too. I guess the only danger is Kone waiting in the wings to come in if Jelavic has a couple of poor games.

talking as a watford fan who was at 3 matches briggs played in last season he was extremely frustrating as i expected a better player coming in on loan from a premier league side (he also replaced a guy i quite liked). he seemed pretty decent/composed on the ball and pretty atheltic but he has zero intensity (which may sound like an oxymoron), for example the likes of walker, clichy and rose as athletic full backs are also pretty relentless and dogged with their marking/tackling. briggs seems to have spent too time with berbatov, casual and a bit day-dreamy. one time which i'm still furious about near the end of the season where watford were 3-2 up going into stoppage time and he let in the burnley striker from a long ball up-field (despite being quicker than him AND having a little head-start) and they scored. can't single him out in a 46 game season but those extra 2 points would have meant premier league football.
reports from fans i've talked to from his other loan clubs aren't overly glowing either.

if he plays it really does show riise has no future at fulham

its not RVPs fixture-proof(ness) that is of any concern - its Uniteds.
Chelsea havent exactly ripped up any trees yet, despite 6 points from 6 though

That's tough. I like #1 as I think Walcott will do better than Coutinho, but I also think Giroud will outscore Sturridge if Arsenal doesn't buy a striker. I'm currently doubling with Walcott + Giroud.

The scouts should create a league system.

    4 leagues...

With relegation & promotion to each league.

    Yes, no?

If Lamps plays this weekend, how many plan to bring him in after the break? It's starting to look as if his position is not under threat. What a great way in to the Chelsea midfield.

As all my players are away, I'm fancying a Mirallas captain punt this week... Bit boring to do RVP every week, and surely there won't be many goals vs Chelsea. But the Walcott v Briggs talk is interesting too... Hmmm

Hi, here is my team for GW 2-4

    Hart
    Enrique - Gibbs - Baines
Koren - Walcott - Coutinho - Ben Arfa - Mirallas
    RVP - Soldado

I was struggling between Soldado and Sturridge, but Soldado is a set piece taker so.. All comments are welcome Thx .

Hopefully the Bale saga will be over and the cards will fall...How do you all see the Bale saga playing out in terms of the domino effect?

After Bale goes (or before, if Spurs are holding out for signings), I see the following happening:

Lamela to Spurs - Will this then affect Soldado's time up front? (Doubtful) Will he play right wing and will that affect Lennon? (Possible) Will he play behind Soldado and take Sigurdsson's spot? (I think this is most likely as Siggy has looked poor...)

Willian to Spurs - Who will make way on the wings? Chadli? Lennon?

Pjanic to Spurs - Right wing? #10?

Ozil to United - Will Bale's arrival sent Ozil to United? Will that give us the midfield option for United that we are all looking for?

Rooney to Chelsea - I don't see this muddying up the striker dilemma at Chelsea, but will that eat into Oscar/Hazard's minutes? Or force them on the wings permanently? Also, with Rooney's departure, does this solidify Welbeck at the 2nd striker and thus increase his value (he would be phenomenal value at 7.6m...)

What other moves do you see happening that are directly related to the Bale transfer and the domino effect?

lamela right wing for sure. soldado is the answer at CF for them, lennon in trouble (doubt spurs fans will be overly upset about no lennon). i think it's 1 of lamela or willian personally. siggy is on such thin ice it's untrue, with or without bale.

ozil i cant see being allowed to leave and although he'd improve any premier league team it's not really a priority area for man utd surely (although maybe if rooney leaves it would be more of one). i really think ancelotti is making an error dicking about with ronaldo's tried and tested left forward spot and ozil's central playmaker role all to try and get the best out of isco.

WIlliam will not go to Spurs if an offer from Chelsea is on the table - this will hurt Mata / Oscar and Schurrle
Lamela is a centre forward and his arrival will see him back up Soldado and likely see Defoe leave - making him a good option if hes in the PL (he should be)
Pjanic is more of a number 10 and will rival Sigurdsson and Holtby for the position in between Paulinho / Dembele and Soldado - although he can play right side.
Ozil to United - all reds praying this comes off, if it does he'll be £10m and difficult to justify generally but a good differential
Rooney to Chelsea - cant see it happening, im sure united wouldnt sell one of the best players weve ever had to our greatest rivals just when theyve got their greatest manager back and the best squad in 7-8 years

Only Suarez move can have similar domino affect at this stage

      Why would Ozil Leave.

      Their formation would be:

      ---striker---
      Bale-Ozil-Cr7
