The ScoutCast – Episode 111 – Bung

There are no brown envelopes in sight; this “bung” is firmly placed in my nasal passages as I clamber from my man-flu grief pit to sit alongside Granville and take my Gameweek medicine. After seeing me off by 21 points, it’s only fair I gave my co-host his moment of glory, regardless of being short of match fitness.

Somehow we end up arguing about Robin van Persie once again, before taking a gander at the bandwagons rolling and preview the weekend’s action the only way we know how: by rambling endlessly and singling out some dubious player picks along the way.

Get your repeat prescription via this link or cure your ailments via the easy to swallow player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Hi guys, do you think Nastasic will start this weekend? Should I do Toure --> Nastasic?

Probably, argueably though Toure to Lescott is a safer short term option.

Nastasic should start. Was on the bench last weekend so was close last week. First choice to pair with Kompany as Lescott just isn't very good.

Good luck mate. It's tricky to pick a captain this week. Loving having Aguero. On paper at least he's the only standout. Normally I'd be against Silva (c) but this week it's the best of a bad bunch

I've been asking this all week, even had a dream about it, currently on Wally but kep swapping betwen him and Silva. I have RVP and Dzeko but have discounted both as I think Liverpool will be tight and im concenred that Dzeko's game time this weekend will be limited.

West Ham 3 cs in a row - could that actually happen?

I should do Ivanovic => Collins, but somehow I'm eager to save my transfer and play Williams (crp) or even Chester instead!
Saving transfer would give so much flexibility for next week and potential midpark reshuffle (Mirallas / Coutinho).

Best defender to bring in this week for 6.2m or below?

    Already have

    Boruc, Davis
    Zabaleta, Terry, Chester, Ward

and already have 3 MCY players.

Candidates seem like the below (Kos is rated highest over the next 6 weeks....)

Coleman, Collins, Kos, Mert, Walker, Johnson, Vidic

Same. I think all are decent options, but only Collins gives me the option of Rooney over Benteke next week (not sure if that's actually a good thing!)

Mert has a better goal threat than Kos right?

Your guess is as good as mine as far as Merte/Kos. In the preseason I think the thought was Kos had a better goal threat and Merte was more of a bonus magnet. Rooney does look potentially deadly, but Benteke is definitely safer.

Holy shoot. Early Saturday game. Yeah, now I remember that. This has just set the captaincy bar towards Silva's favour.

Like Jafalad said, Silva isn't really a big-point scorer but very consistent. I guess it all depends on where we are in the ranking and how we're doing in our own mini leagues to decide that.

Yes, for the past four seasons in this exact same fixture, it has been goals galore. I'll bring you the ticker.

                  Arsenal 3-0 Tottenham
                  Arsenal 2-3 Tottenham
                  Arsenal 5-2 Tottenham
                  Arsenal 5-2 Tottenham

Also possibly, this weekend could be the end of it - i.e. 0-0 for the first time in five seasons. 😀

It's interesting that a goal scored by a mid gives them only 6 BPS as compared to 8 BPS for strikers.

How much should this influence us to captain strikers more often than mids?

That's the ridiculous bit of the BPS I don't understand. Defenders get only 4 BPS for scoring a goal while they get 6 points.

The only reasonable explanation is that they're trying to even out the playing field to make sure defenders don't run away with bonus points

It's always been better to captain strikers over Mids anyways hasn't it? What with them being more likely to score and whatnot. As for BP, Mids must have other areas that are better for them. Maybe more points for assists, pass completion etc. But someone will have to do the number crunching on this.

I don't know, the captain polls seem to suggest Silva or Walcott this week

There are a very few mids who're capable of chipping in with goals and assists at a good rate (Cazorla, Walcott and Hazard come to mind). Otherwise strikers usually have a better chance of scoring goals and hence it might be worth keeping this rule in mind.

I think this week is unusual too with the big teams facing off against each other and others not playing. So you're faced with the dilemmas of :

          1. Man Utd - tough game v LIV
          2. Man City - rotation risks - Silva seems nailed on though compared to Dzeko. I personally have gone for Aguero and I reckon the reason more people aren't saying this is that a lot don't have him.
          3. Chelsea - Not playing
          4. Arsenal - Playing Tottenham
          5. Tottenham - Playing Arsenal

Others: Benteke not playing. Michu, could be a real shout against West Brom

Walcott is the real anomaly here. I can see him doing well and has done so in the past against Tottenham, and people are hoping for him to chip in with a goal and a couple of assists.but I can't see this match being as open as it was last year.

        Also...

It's mostly the CMs who'll benefit from the other stat BPS, unlikely a winger / CAM will benefit too much over a striker (Cazorla and Barkley have been exceptions so far). Unfortunately, CMs are more often than not considered ownable

i guess bps are based on players preformances

striker job is to score so he is awarded with more pts than midfilder and defender

defenders gets manny bps for tackles and CS

midfilders suposted to getting bps for passing but fpl get this wrong since CB players pass bal a lot so they taking those pts

concept is good idea but it's bad in realitly cause mf players wont get manny bps while defender will

I think this could be to reward those who play well in their position. For example, Lampard may have scored a goal but have a bad game, possibly from being too far forward all game or maybe a penalty. But Rameires puts in a stormer all game, busting his ass, making tackles, doing his job and get s a Man of the Match award.

    I should've done Hazard -> Silva, didn't I?
I did Benteke -> Sturridge instead.

I have both Coutinho and Dzeko, but surely better doubling up City this week rather than Liverpool.
Despite the Sturridge sharpness in goal.
And it would've given me an extra 0.1-0.2m value from the transfer (double rise Silva, Hazard drop 0.1 or possibly 0.2, and Sturridge increased 0.1 value)

    Damn!

I'll just hope Sturridge scores a hattrick vs MU and Silva get red-carded this week. 😉

    Pretty unlikely..

Well the mantle is somethings gotta give. personally I wouldn't like to have a cheap ass striker like Anekla or Chamakh but if you think there's value in them go ahead.

Othwerwise, I think its a case of buying relatively big names with two/three cheapies to rotate and opposed to having a team full of mediocrity.

I personally don't have him, but that's just my thoughts.

Morning, asked this a couple of days ago but got no definitive answer. Currently top of my paid mini league that has manager of the month prizes. Trying to plan for next week. Can anyone tell me if the Liverpool/United, WBA/Swans and Arsenal/Spurs games will contribute towards my overall points for August or September? These games are on September 1st but the game week starts August 31st so just looking for clarification? Want to captain Walcott but will opt for Silva/Dzeko to maximise my August total if the Sunday games won't go towards my August total.

Must. Remain. Patient. And. Retain. Calmness. The reason I have not considered Dzeko for captaincy at all is because I think against Hull, this could be the 'one' Pellegrini finally gives in and hands Negredo a start. Just for this game, of course.
