The Knee Jerk

The Knee Jerk – Monday

On a night that saw Jonjo Shelvey play a part in all four goals, we witnessed Michu notch his first of the season, while Daniel Sturridge maintained his relentless scoring streak with a fourth goal in four games. With Victor Moses impressing on debut and injury concerns surrounding Dan Agger and Pablo Hernandez, Monday’s encounter offered plenty for Fantasy managers to consider.

The Game Changer

Michu’s sweetly struck half volley from Shelvey’s smart knockdown issued a timely reminder of his talents. Up until tonight, Michu was amongst an array of several heavy hitting midfielders who have failed to live up to their pre-season billing. While Philippe Coutinho continued to toil without returns for Liverpool before being subbed with a shoulder injury, tonight’s strike from Michu promoted him in our thinking.

With Pablo Hernandez potentially sidelined with a hamstring problem, Michu stands out as Swansea’s key attacking asset as they embark on a run of friendly league fixtures in the weeks ahead. Having dropped to 8.9 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) after a run of sales, Michu may just be set to replicate the kind of form that saw him strike 18 goals from midfield in his debut season.

The Underused

A cult hero on these pages, Victor Moses announced himself to his new supporters with an encouraging display and a debut goal. Having suffered limited opportunities at Stamford Bridge, Moses is set to be given the freedom of the Liverpool left flank by Brendan Rodgers and his pace, power and trickery troubled the Swans all evening. With an eye for goal and the likes of Sturridge and Luis Suarez to convert his supply, Moses is owned by less than 1% of Fantasy managers but already looks good value at 6.2 in the FPL.

The Selection Poser

There were two notable absentees from the evening’s teamsheets as both Dan Agger and Pablo Hernandez missed out. Liverpool’s Danish defender picked up a knock in training on Sunday which saw him sidelined – he is expected to return to the fold for the home clash with Southampton, however. That would signal a shake-up in the Liverpool back four which currently has Kolo Toure, Martin Skrtel, Mamado Sakho and Andre Wisdom battling for two starting berths.

Hernandez’s situation is less certain. Michael Laudrup confirmed a hamstring injury prior to the game and stated that the Spanish winger could be out “for a week or two”. Hernandez had enjoyed an outstanding start to the campaign, attracting sizeable investment which had led to a FPL price hike to 6.2. Seemingly a major doubt for the trip to Crystal Palace, it remains to be seen if his owners hold firm ahead of Swansea’s favourable schedule.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Surely no way Wisdom will nail down a right back spot for next few weeks after last night's performance, who do people think will start there next weekend?

With Brendan unlikely to change his formation it leaves the following players fighting it out for the front 4 spots when Suarez returns

Suarez, Sturridge, coutinho, aspas, Henderson, moses, sterling

Suarez is a must, Sturridge on fire, but who else and where?

    Most likely ?

    --------------Sturridge
    Coutinho Suarez Moses

If this is the case then Sturridge may still be the best option

Which one do you gents think is the more pressing transfer?
A: Mannone -> Vorm because I am forced to double up on soton defense every week with Boruc+Shaw.
B: Soldado > Giroud because of form and fixture (STK,swa seems more profitable compared to car,CHE)
C: Do both for a hit?

Def no hit- neither of those are very pressing. Shaw seems less nailed on that Boruc and Soldado could easily outscore Giroud this week.

Safe transfer imo. If you have to then B

According to the NEXT 6 TICKER, Swansea and Tott have 1st and 3rd best fixtures respectively,

Add to this, A and B are more likely to feature regularly, and recent form, it has to be A and B.

    Morning all,

This one could be for Liverpool fans, or just anyone in general really. Does anyone know exactly how much Moses will be used at Liverpool? He's slotted in now, which is understandable, but did Rodgers not have Suarez pegged for a role on the left when he returned from injury?

Only thing I can think is that he's actually planning on shifting Sturridge (again) to the right, although that's something he's said he's reluctant to do, keep Moses left and put Suarez upfront, and inturn moving Henderson back into central midfield.

    Any thoughts much appriciated.

    Ta.

Not a LIV fan (far from it as a MUN fan), but i think Moses will play on the right with Suarez left and sturridge central striker with Cout deeper central, with Gerrard and Lucas deep.

      Aspas and Henderson bench.

Good call. Just in two minds. I've reached the end of the road with Coutinho. Don't know whether to get rid like-for-like, Michu/Eriksen, or get in Moses, and upgrade my one low-mid value attacker which is Anelka.

exactly my thoughts. also gives easy rotation if one of the 4 pick up a knock bringing in hendo and then a small reshuffle.

Hendo is crucial to Liverpools setup though. That is where the problem is.

So it's fair to say that Moses is far from nailed on, then? Suarez, Sturridge are definites. Coutinho is as close to a definite without being one you can get it would seem. If Moses fits in on the left, it affects one of those three, doesn't it?

I think the short answer to your question is that now, and especially once Suarez is back, Moses is NOT nailed on, and IMO is probably not a great pick for that reason. Studge or Suarez for me.

I suppose Moses and Hendo can easily interchange,

Or Suarez can take Coutinhos place behind striker and Hendo and Moses can both play witzh Cout dropped to bench if he doesnt regain his form...

Quite a nice little squad they have there,

Bottom 40 or equal after hits go out.

You just made the average in GW1. Since then there have been at least 40 worse than you.

Competition will get tougher the further it goes.

A few big names going out this week.

36 or below looks like the knockout point.

So if I'm reading this right we can save ourselves lots and lots of money by getting Rooney/Sturridge over Rvp/Suarez.

    FPL really is simple.

I have a "gut" feeling about Wally.

I did not see the game, but everyone was going on about how well he played. i suppose you could look at it and think he wasn't that good coz he missed so many chances?

        Just a feeling...

When in doubt go Giroud I suppose? You always do well when you (c) the donkey.

Rvp? Should be up for it.
