FFS UEFA Beach Soccer Tournament 2013

Gameweek 8 sees the launch of the latest team competition for the Fantasy Football Scout community organised by FFS UEFA. Following the success of last season’s ICC-themed cricket tournament, the group have created FFS Beach Soccer World Cup 2013, with 16 teams, each comprised of 11 players, competing for the crown.

If you’re new to the concept and are wondering just what all the chatter has been about, here’s a link to their site which will help explain matters in a little more detail.

Essentially, the scoring is based around the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game.

Each team started scouting for players (ie, FPL managers) on Sunday, October 6 and the recruitment period will come to a close on Wednesday, October 16, with the roster of team players announced on Thursday, October 17.

The teams are led by a captain and vice-captain and guided by a manager, who decide which seven of their 11 players to field each week – depending on the perceived prospects of their FPL line-ups -and which four to bench. Their overall FPL scores for the Gameweek, with hits taken into account, will form the team’s score that week – by outscoring their opponents, they chalk up a win.

The first match in Gameweek 8 will be no more than a friendly before the main event gets underway the following weekend. This sees the 16 teams compete in four groups of four between Gameweek 9 and 11 – the top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout stages, where sides square up in a head-to-head elimination process from Gameweek 12 until the final in Gameweek 15.       Benching the right player became so critical.....I would have benched Zep/Titotinho , but Zep instead ended up benching me. I got one more point than Zep, but if either of us had benched Tiotinho we would have lost!!!!

    Missed much of the footy and was gobsmacked at the Man City result however Team Spain didnt need to win and picked a safe XII to ensure we didnt place all our eggs in the wrong basket (e.g. Aguero) albeit in retrospect if we were in need of the win, those sitting it with Suarez as captain would have got us the W/

    Thankfully it looks like the tactics worked - not a spectacular performance but it should ensure top spot which is what the Matadors set out to achieve.

    Strange GW, but a great set of BSWC match to settle the groups 🙂

    Commiserations to all teams who haven't made it to the QFs, there's a lot of luck involved as its over a span of 3 GWs. No team has been able to win all 3 games in the group stages, just shows how close the line between qualification and non-qualification is.

    Hope you will continue to be around to keep the banter alive.

    Reporter: We are here with disgraced Senegoal manager Christina. How are you holding up?

    Christina: My pride has been battered and bruised by the agony of losing two of our three group games in group C, after the ecstasy of whipping the moderators in our first group game.

    But I will be back. And when I return, I will be a stronger man and better manager after the experience of my rollercoaster three gameweeks at the helm of team Senegoal.
    At the moment I'm drained both mentally and physically. That's because over the last weeks I have hardly had a break from partying and drinking excessively.

    Reporter: Any spesific reasons why things went wrong?

    Christina: Let me say now that, looking back, the way I took up the offer to manage Senegoal is something I regret. When ENR came calling, I rushed into it.

    The way I went about my business prior to the recruiting period meant we lost the spirit and togetherness that had held the other squads in such good stead when things got so tough
    during the tournament.

    Our media campaign fell flat as soon as we caught Sporting having phone sex with Epicfail's missus. That was the reason for him not breaking curfews and returning early to his hotelroom. We thought doing the "wildthing" was using his Wildcard….oh boy were we wrong...

    Reporter: What do you have to say about Iran and Brazil that managed to qualify from the "group of death"?

    Christina: Iran and Brazil? When we were at our hotel swimming pool we played against some Brazilian and Iranian waiters. We couldn't get the ball off them! Since then, the two countries have completely changed beach football. They have helped the game evolve into a wonderful free-flowing one.We hold thumbs that one of Iran or Brazil take the title. They deserve it.

    Reporter: What does the immediate future hold for Christina?

    Christina: I'm going back to the Deadzone. Being a troll. That's what I enjoy and that's what I'm good at.
