FFS UEFA Beach Soccer Tournament 2013

Gameweek 8 sees the launch of the latest team competition for the Fantasy Football Scout community organised by FFS UEFA. Following the success of last season’s ICC-themed cricket tournament, the group have created FFS Beach Soccer World Cup 2013, with 16 teams, each comprised of 11 players, competing for the crown.

If you’re new to the concept and are wondering just what all the chatter has been about, here’s a link to their site which will help explain matters in a little more detail.

Essentially, the scoring is based around the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game.

Each team started scouting for players (ie, FPL managers) on Sunday, October 6 and the recruitment period will come to a close on Wednesday, October 16, with the roster of team players announced on Thursday, October 17.

The teams are led by a captain and vice-captain and guided by a manager, who decide which seven of their 11 players to field each week – depending on the perceived prospects of their FPL line-ups -and which four to bench. Their overall FPL scores for the Gameweek, with hits taken into account, will form the team’s score that week – by outscoring their opponents, they chalk up a win.

The first match in Gameweek 8 will be no more than a friendly before the main event gets underway the following weekend. This sees the 16 teams compete in four groups of four between Gameweek 9 and 11 – the top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout stages, where sides square up in a head-to-head elimination process from Gameweek 12 until the final in Gameweek 15. For anyone looking for further information on how the tournament works, click here for extra details.

Over the past few days, the tournament has become a popular topic on our site as the recruitment drive gets underway. As a result, we have created this article to keep discussion on the tournament to one particular place – we’ll ensure the article is kept featured at the top of the homepage, thus making it easier to find for those already involved or looking to do so.

Good luck to all those taking part.

After his injury there's no chance at all of seeing Will Bony in perfect harmony with them either.

We shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in Tahiti, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our islands, whatever the cost may be.

We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.

    SOLOMON ISLANDS PRESS CONFERENCE:

Reporter: So coach, can we ask you what you told your boys tonight?

Shadow: It was a simple message. There's a tradition to not talk about the next step until you've climbed the one in front of you. Forget about the crowds, the quality of the opposition, their fancy uniforms, and remember what got you here. Focus on the fundamentals that we've gone over time and time again. And most important, don't get caught up thinking about winning or losing this game. If you put your effort and concentration into playing to your potential, to be the best that you can be, in my book, you're gonna be winners.

Reporter: Do you think that will inspire them to win their match against the Ivory Coast?

Shadow: Match? Ivory Coast? No. That’s what I told them as we head out to the bars tonight. This island’s crawling with hotties with bodies.

Reporter: You seem to be quite complacent. Are you content with your quarter final win?

Shadow: Oh right, because there can be too many of something wonderful. Hey Babe Ruth, easy big fella, let’s not hit too many homers. Hey Steve Gutenberg, maybe just make three Police Academy movies, America’s laughed enough. Brendan Rodgers, please pull Luis Suarez early, I’ve already got two goals from my fantasy captain.

But seriously, it’s like Jessie Owens said, in the end, it’s extra effort that separates a winner from second place. But winning takes a lot more that, too. It starts with complete command of the fundamentals. Then it takes desire, determination, discipline, and self-sacrifice. And finally, it takes a great deal of love, fairness and respect for your fellow wingman. Put all these together, and even if you don’t win, how can you lose?

Reporter: You’re back to talking about picking up chicks in bars again aren’t you?

    Shadow: Did I ever stop?

    Reporter: You’re impossible!

Shadow: No. We’re possimpible! Go Solomons!! Make this semi-final legendary!!!

You're right about the Faye/Januz I had the sub order wrong, so had a Januz on each side cancelled out. We're already looking at 2nd subs in some cases, tomorrow we might be calling on anyone with pair of trunks. It's going to be a thrilling battle, it's just kind of funny how everyone has the same captain so that is just removed from the equation. We got quite a scare from having less of him last week.

It's not easy keeping track now a lot of ppl are into their benches, so the live scoreboard is really the state of play.
No Jan means they Ivory get a Clyne instead. No Faye for Hull so we get a Clyne too.
Faye, Coutinho and Chester are on the bench though so we'll wait and see.

If none of them come on the differentials left after this game would be.

        2 Boruc, 2 Ivanovic, 1 Zab,1 Chico, 1 Brady +2pts from bench yesterday.
        v
        4 Mingolet, 1 GJ, 1 Oscar, 1 Suarez.

Every time I've checked out tie has been getting closer and Brazil have been getting further ahead of El Salvador. You've still got Suarez who's dangerous all game long and Oscar. We've got defence so things might still be open until the final kick of the tie. It has been thrilling either way 🙂

Not the most exciting of games to be honest, as Ramsey more or less killed it for us yesterday but I gotta say I'm relieved. Zep was sleeping while the bench was decided, so there was a little added pressure on us.

True that. We've seen 100pt leads overturned before in this competition but looking at the differentials it was always going to be tight between us today; we just left ourselves too much to do.

We agonized over the benchings and obviously got it wrong a bit in the end, but I'm just proud we got this far. You've got a great team, so go win it!

Yes, there has been fantastic organisation for this. I know how much of a logistical nightmare it can be when you're only dealing with a couple dozen people, but getting up near 200 people all the right accreditation, accommodation, practice time slots, live scores and post-match drinks must have taken some doing.

Samson Takayama (born 19 February 1979) - an international footballer from the Solomon Islands who plays for Koloale FC, as a defender. Takayama began his career with Kossa FC, and made his international debut in 2007.

If you'd asked me before what kind of scores were possible I'd have been way off the mark.

Ignoring the friendly our top 3 in terms of competitive starting averages are:

      1) Zan Keroski: Av. 76.35 from 4 starts.
      2) Koneheads: Av. 74.8 from 5 starts (374 total).
      3) Philman: Av. 73.25 from 4 starts.

(Also of note our illustrious Manager The Shadow has put his trunks on when necessary and delivered 2 performances averaging 69.5)

Kone is our only ever-present and has risen to number 1 in the FFS Members League over the course of the tournament! Assuming Boom Boom started all 5 rounds so far he's matched that 374 total. That's more than half the points someone around 150k overall has earned all season.

          That top 3 should read:

          1) Koneheads: Av. 76.8 from 5 starts (384 total).
          2) Zan Keroski: Av. 76.5 from 4 starts (306).

    ***Solomon Islands Today Bulletine***

This news flash doesn't contain much of value to be frank, as there is severe news drought across the whole country. People have quite simply chosen to stay indoors praying to our beach gods, firmly lodged at the edge of their seats. As result, very little is happening that we can report on. However these incidents of minor interest can be conveyed:

A person dropped a pin on the west coast earlier today and a person standing on the east coast is said to have developed tinnitus as result.

A UFO passed just over our capital this Saturday wanting to make contact with planet earth, and zero individuals are reported to have given a flying feck.

23 persons regrettably passed away this Sunday after holding their breath. The sigh of relief when Hull scored against Liverpool caused another 43 deaths due to over-exposure to bad breath.

A destructive, grade ten tornado was due to hit our islands earlier today, but took a detour as it hit the wall of suspense covering the islands. Instead it hit neighboring Vanuatu, who don't even have a designated dance for their beach soccer team.

An enormous, 500 meter high statue of The Shadow is going to be erected at the center of our island. It's due to be finished in 2044. It's weight is expected to sink our islands into the ocean, but never fear. Plans will be made to set up a new, glorious civilization inside the giant (but to scale) scrotum of the shadow statue.

A newborn boy have recently been given a very special name, making reference to our 11 brave beach soccer players. Full name reads as follows: Little Arse-Digger Kashadzan Bapjol-Konejol Namphil

Meetings are being held by state officials, over the possibility of changing the name of our country to Konemon Islands. As we're typing this, news are arriving that the bill flew through unopposed.

Three hundred Brazilian tourists were sent away from the Islands by boat earlier today. The boats were all made of a paper material made to look like wood, and are expected to have dissolved in the water by now.

    End of bulletine.
