FFS UEFA Beach Soccer Tournament 2013

Gameweek 8 sees the launch of the latest team competition for the Fantasy Football Scout community organised by FFS UEFA. Following the success of last season’s ICC-themed cricket tournament, the group have created FFS Beach Soccer World Cup 2013, with 16 teams, each comprised of 11 players, competing for the crown.

If you’re new to the concept and are wondering just what all the chatter has been about, here’s a link to their site which will help explain matters in a little more detail.

Essentially, the scoring is based around the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game.

Each team started scouting for players (ie, FPL managers) on Sunday, October 6 and the recruitment period will come to a close on Wednesday, October 16, with the roster of team players announced on Thursday, October 17.

The teams are led by a captain and vice-captain and guided by a manager, who decide which seven of their 11 players to field each week – depending on the perceived prospects of their FPL line-ups -and which four to bench. Their overall FPL scores for the Gameweek, with hits taken into account, will form the team’s score that week – by outscoring their opponents, they chalk up a win.

The first match in Gameweek 8 will be no more than a friendly before the main event gets underway the following weekend. This sees the 16 teams compete in four groups of four between Gameweek 9 and 11 – the top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout stages, where sides square up in a head-to-head elimination process from Gameweek 12 until the final in Gameweek 15. For anyone looking for further information on how the tournament works, click here for extra details.

Over the past few days, the tournament has become a popular topic on our site as the recruitment drive gets underway. As a result, we have created this article to keep discussion on the tournament to one particular place – we’ll ensure the article is kept featured at the top of the homepage, thus making it easier to find for those already involved or looking to do so.

Good luck to all those taking part.

    To my Solomon Islands teammates:

    Great moments are born from great opportunity.
    And that's what you have here today, Bilikiki Boys.
    That's what you have EARNED here, today.
    One game.
    If we played Brazil ten times, they might win nine.
    But not this game. NOT TODAY!
    Today, we run with 'em
    Today, we stay with 'em, and we shut them down because we can!
    Today, we are the greatest Beach Soccer team in the world.
    You were born to be fantasy Beach Soccer players -- every one of ya.
    And you were meant to be here today.
    This is your time.
    Their time -- is done. It's over.
    I'm sick and tired of hearin' about what a popular Beach Soccer team Brazil has.
    Screw 'em!
    This is your time!!
    NOW GO OUT THERE AND TAKE IT!!!!

    Well, I have so often planned to ship Paulinho every week for the last few weeks, especially with the price drops and the plethora of chances missed, but there has always seemed another move that was needed more, or a FT saved.

    This week I actually fancied him to do well, so when he scored I was made up, but did not realise at the time that he was a serious differential in the Beach Soccer WC. Against his own Country too, how ironic.

    So first day goes to the Solomoms, but we know there is a lot to play for yet.

    Such a rare commodity at this stage to find that key differential in midfield... but Paulinho has certainly come through for Solomon Islands today, well done...

    Massive congratulations to Shadow and his teammates...

    There is the faintest glimmer of hope for us, but I'm under no illusion which team has shone the brightest today, and shown such strength in depth...

    Shadow has one again proven to be a true thorn in my side... first TWS, and now BSWC... 😉

        I admire the Arsenal team in TWS. Had Norwich not won, they should have. They got a late start out of the gate but had the game figured out by the end. A couple more rounds could have seen things end differently.

    Some may wonder how I was so confident of the Solomon Island chances going into today's games. Well you see I had a dream last night. And that dream went like this:

    'Twas the night before the final, when all thro' Shadow’s house
    Not a creature was stirring, not even GYBOuts;
    The shin guards were hung by the chimney with care,
    In hopes that a trophy soon would be there;
    The Islanders were nestled all snug in their beds,
    While visions of goals danc'd in their heads,
    L'il Dancer in a Mankini, and I in my suit,
    Had just nominated Konehead for the Golden Boot —

    When out on the beach there arose such a clatter,
    I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
    Away to the window I flew like a flash,
    Tore open the shutters, and threw up the sash.
    The moon on the breast of the new fallen snow,
    Gave the luster of mid-day to objects below;
    When, what to my wondering eyes was there,
    But the team bus, and ten Solomon Islanders ,
    With a little old driver, so lively and tan,
    I knew in a moment it must be Philman.
    More rapid than eagles these Islanders they came,
    So I whistled, and shouted, and call'd them by name:
    "Now Namtab! Now L’il Dancer! Now Arselot and Gooner!
    "On Zan! On Konehead! On Trolls and Goaldigger!
    "To the top of the bracket! To the top of the table!
    "Tomorrow score goals! As many as you’re able!"
    With crisp passing down the flanks we’ll fly,
    Have fear of no obstacle, the limit’s the sky;
    They executed all the drills that I drew,
    All of the boys— even Sir Arselot too.

    And then in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
    The prancing and pawing of what sounded like a hoof.
    As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
    Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound:
    He was dress'd all in fur, from his head to his foot,
    And in his sack I saw the Golden Boot;
    And a bundle of trophies was flung on his back,
    He was fat as Seth Blather, that old quack:
    His eyes — how they twinkled! His dimples: how merry,
    His cheeks like Danny Rose, his knees like John Terry;
    His droll little mouth was drawn up like Martin Jol,
    And the beard of his chin was as white as Joe Cole;
    The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
    His butt cheeks clenched like Mourinho’s beneath.
    He had a broad face, and an Anderson-like belly
    That shook when he laugh'd, like a bowl full of jelly:
    He was chubby and plump, with a red nose like SAF,
    I looked at him and could not help but laugh;
    A wink of his eye and a twist of his head
    Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

    He spoke not a word, and kept his best poker face,
    Then he placed the Council Cup right in our case!
    And laying his finger aside of his SAF nose
    And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose.
    He sprung to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
    And away they all flew, like RVP from the Arsenal:
    But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight —
    Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night.

        0-0 in the 61st minute, Rosenoir subbed off with a clean sheet for 6 pts.
        Then Williams scores, Swansea keep a clean sheet, Williams earns max bonus for 15 x 2.

          Or Rosenior stays benched. Then Chico scores with a handball from a Shelvey assist. Williams gets booked, but then Chico does too to take him down to 2 bonus.

          Oh, and Brady doesn't play so Brazil get 7 Ward points off the bench while we get a couple from Chester.

    I knew there was a reason we dropped points in our final group game to avoid the Soloman Islands. Congrats dudes

      I can see why this was oversubscribed. It's been tremendous and not just the winning. The great banter from all the teams right from the start made it so much fun. Maybe there'll be the odd friendly in the future, we'll definitely be back to defend the trophy next time.

    Thank you ENR & Pratik and all the Council guys for your work in organizing this tournament.

    Thank you all participants who really made this a fun interactive event.

    Thank you to all our opponents who really elevated the level of competition. No easy matches in this competition. Thank you especially to Brazil - hey who really expects Paulinho and Chico to score in the same week?

    Thank you to my Solomon Island teammates (especially Little Dancer from Norwich who shares the Council Double). This is a great group of guys. Most of our activity happened offsite on our Solomon Island forum so all the effort by these guys went unnoticed.

    OK enough chit chat. Time to celebrate! Everybody join up at the Lusty Leopard. Drinks and strippers are on me!

      Congrats Shadow. You deserved to win – were a brilliant team for the whole tournament. One of these days I'll beat you in a Council tournament. One of these days.
