Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII – Third Round Draw

With little time for turnaround between Gameweeks, we roll out the Round 2 results and Round 3 Draw of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup VII, sponsored by Paddy Power, this evening. Before we look at the remaining contenders for the crown, those taking part should note that these ties take place over Gameweek 15 – the Gameweek 14 midweek matches do not count towards your tally:

Our defending champion Wild Rover seems to have risen to the occasion and, having climbed the rankings in the last couple of weeks, now faces Hillbillypete for a place in the Fourth Round. Wild Rover is one of only three previous Scout Cup winners still remaining; GoonerDave goes up against Mufcste55 – the latter is the favourite here, sitting just outside the top 10,000 – whilst sleepingmaster pits his wits against bigfourleggedbeast.

Mark’s podcast co-host and Champions League tipster Granville swept aside Dullardinho last weekend and now faces The Upper Deckers, who sits just inside the top 1 million. Gaz Downright – who tops the Contributors and Moderators league – is up against 2ndMan, whilst fellow moderators applebonkers and Ryan have been drawn against ste2510 and Bedknobs and Boomsticks respectively.

Amongst the community members still in with a shout, Tommy Tynan’s Left Shin Pad takes on Jafooli, The Sarjeant faces Isacki, EpicFAIL has been drawn against The Shadow and Daniel plays host to The Flying Nugget.

Giuliop11 may well be considered the favourite for the title. Sitting in 164th spot overall, he’s the man to avoid – Ferenc55 stands in his way of a Fourth Round spot.

As usual, we name-check the highest scoring winner from the previous round. Realunitedfc takes the honour, after racking up 90 points in Gameweek 13 – now up to around the 17,000-mark, he swaggers into the next fixture against bcdahm.

If you fancy a glance back at the Round 2 results, click here or if you are awaiting the fixture list for the next batch of head-to-head, the draw for the Third Round is available here.

As always, good luck to those still in with a shout of the silverware.

Who was taking Spurs' set pieces earlier this season? Swear Walker wasn't running to every corner and free kick a few weeks ago

Until SAR delivers, seems like another crappy week in the making among all this uncertainty

got 1 FT and not sure what to do, was thinking going Fonte to Terry but now seeing Walker on every dead ball, he seems to be a really good option

and nice Grav by the way 😀

ENR raised a point about not learning a lesson from Benteke (investing early on a player returning from injury). I've labelled this as at least 3 GWs out and had a look at some big hitters who have been injured this season for that period, and their subsequent performances on return (at least one half of football)

    Benteke - 2, 2, 2, 2
    Caz - 1, 3, 11, 2
    Silva - 4, 11, 2, 8
    Coutinho - 1, 3, 7, 1

Conclusion: Very small sample size but just thought would be interesting to have a look. Save for Silva, it takes a couple of games for players to find their feet.

Silva seems to be a real exception though - I remember last season I got him in straight from injury against Villa. Got a goal and 2 assists right off the bat.

True. Walcott's injury recovery has begun with a sub-on against Southampton, a sub-on against Marseille and a late sub-on and assist against Cardiff. You could say he already is some way into his recovery - he's not going in cold. Whether he'll be finishing well immediately is another matter.

    Evra, Terry, Clyne, Collins (Chester)

How much in the bank? If you have had enough of Sess, get him out.

If willing to stick for the 3 fixtures after this, save the FT. I hate seeing his name in my team but i'm keeping for the time being. Can't afford an upgrade to big hitter yet and no one else I'd like to downgrade to except Ravel. But already brought Rooney in so don't want 2 tightropers in my team right now.

only 0.2 in the bank and that's exactly why I'm not so convinced on getting Ravel right now. Sess is an enigma…but having said that there are not too many options either in that price range. Could do Evra>Gabbidon and Sess>Wally once he gets his match fitness back.

I wud be lying if I say no, but Sess at home against a leaky away side..lol can't put your 'premium' mid on the bench. JWP is a better bet than Whitts though but thn with Sess is more explosive.

Burner's points ceiling is 6pts (maybe 8/9 if he somehow get the most BPS in a 0-0/0-1 game) but I expect 1-2pts...

Brady's points ceiling is 7pts (unlikely to get any bonus since Arsenal will score minimum of 2 goals and will dominate BPS), but he will get a minimum of 2pts IMO (unless he gets booked)...

The big dilemma of the week - drum roll... which Crystal Palace defender to get in?!

The backline looks like it will continue to be Ward - Gabbidon - Delaney - Moxey, none of which have a worthwhile goal threat really (Delaney highest with 4 shots in the box) so looking at the bonus points is a better bet.

So to get to the bottom of which defender is the best bet for bonuses I removed the attacking BPS scores from each players BPS total as in all likeliness a CS is the very most you can hope for in Palace defender, then we can see which defender is likely to get BP's in a low scoring game.

BPS per 90 mins (exc. goal/assist BPS)

    Ward 5.1
    Gabbidon 4.6
    Delaney 4
    Moxey 3.2

Ward probably comes up on top as his defensive stats are pretty impressive, hes averaging the most tackles in the league for a defender and you get 1 BPS for every 3 successful tackles. So he'd be my pick, bucking the CB trend of likely bonus point magnets.

I still don't fancy Palace defensively that much at all, but 8m combo with Ben Turner gives probably the best rotation of fixtures I have ever seen playing FPL up to GW27 (WHM CAR WBA NEW SOT SUN NOR WHM STK HUL NOR WBA AVL HUL - all at home). With 3 'big' defenders with the money saved and them as backup I think its a pretty sound plan. What do ya reckon?

There is a bit of that, though Hazard has started all but one game and looks up there as the most nailed on Chelsea midfielder except from Ramires.

Yeah the Liv fixtures including Norwich this week are really appealing to me - not liking Sunderland away for Hazard either.

I'm just not convinced yet this season.

For sure, he's going to score some 10+ GW's but he lacks consistency.

I also do think Chelsea midfield is going to get crazy rotation over the next month.

Liverpool have less games (no UCL or CCup) and no-one to rotate with esp as Sturridge is now out.

Thanks. Keep switching between the 3. But isn't it always wiser to play an attacking player ahead of a defender?

I got 1.8 ITB so will have funds to do either

    Ravel -> Sess
    or
    Rat -> Evra

Basically it's Sess Rat vs Ravel Evra

    Gotta be the later right?

Mirallas (mun) -> Walcott (HUL) is probably worth a 4 point gamble right? Leaves just enough cash for Giroud -> Rooney for the w/e also.

    Panty
    Terry, Evra, Clyne
    Ramsey, Nasri, Ravel, Mirallas
    Aguero, Suarez, Giroud

    Davis, Ward, MOlsson, Snodgrass
    Bank 4.1m.

Oooohh, you'll find a lot of Walcott skeptics here.

From one Gooner to another - I'm almost decided on getting Walcott in for free now. Hit not sure.

Most Gooners I know who watch the team have been more in favour of owning Walcott - makes a change 😆

Yeah, it's a gamble for sure, but I think the signs point towards him getting a start, and if he does I fancy him to outscore Mirallas this week by more than 4.

        i) Wenger has said he'll be rotating over the next week or so.
ii) Wally should be at/very close to match fitness now (I thought he looked sharp in the few mins at the w/e - 1 assist and almost 1 goal)
iii) Wenger will want him to have a few games under his belt before City and Chelsea
iv) Hull at home is the ideal fixture to bring him back

I could well be deluding myself though..... 🙂

These are the exact four reasons I have too. The fitness/sharpness angle is the make or break issue for me and having watched the games I think he's getting there. I would think he needs to get minutes now - and I would think he'll get a reasonable number against Everton.

The bottom line is, is Walcott a first choice player in this new team? I think the answer has to be yes. His runs and pace are the endpoint of the tiki taka - which has lacked an endpoint of late with Giroud off. I think he's the final piece of the jigsaw.

It's worth a gamble anyway. The worst case scenario is a bunch of 1 pointers which we're getting from most of the mids anyway.

Absolutely he is 1st choice. Wally hat trick incoming

The question is not whether he'll outscore mirallas by 4 points but whether he'll outscore Gerrard/Coutinho as they are his alternatives.. i'm beginning to think the pool guys could be a better option

I think so - Walcott is the most attacking midfielder in the game imo.

Gerrard will tick along, but requires set pieces. Coutinho could be great with Sturridge out. I'm a little biased mind you 🙂
