Captain Sensible – Gameweek 16

We roll out the next instalment of our weekly article for Members this evening, offering an in-depth statistical analysis of the main captaincy contenders for the set of fixtures ahead. This week, more than most, getting the armband call correct looks crucial – given that all of our featured five have acquired at least 12% of the votes cast in the Gameweek 16 Captain Poll, opinion looks split right across the board. Time to delve into the data, then…

Spend it on coke, booze, hookers and a night out with Roman Abramovic and I'd say Oscar + 1m

        Aye it's a tough one.

WBA have scored in all but 2 of their games this season and 1 of those was last GW where they should've had at least 1 if not 2 goals (Sess sitters).

Burner and Cardiff have had 2 CS in 7 home games (vs Everton pre-Lukaku and vs goal-shy Swansea)

I think Nasri and Silva will both start. The fact that the former is fully rested is a highly significant factor IMO and Navas can be more influential from the bench due to his pace.

Think it's more 70/30 Demi, but then I have Nasri so may be wishful thinking.

Just think with Navas playing 90 midweek and Arsenal being Nasri's former club, it's that sort of intangible that managers use to their advantage.

Actually, diffcult to drop Milner after that performance!

Fair point about Navas playing 90. I do think Milner wouldn't have been in Pellegrini's thoughts prior to Bayern though, and that he wouldn't change his mind after. Maybe if it was an away game though.

I'd give Nasri the edge though like you, Navas probably better as the impact sub.

Yep, exactly. Pellegrini must have thought giving Navas and Milner a run out against Bayern would make it an easy task to bench them for the Arsenal game.

He's got a good bunch of wide midfielders when you look at it:

            Navas - pace, counter attacking
Silva - plays in-between the lines, technique, creativity
Milner - hard working, positionally disciplined, reliable but lacks flair / spark
Nasri - similar to Silva but perhaps links play and keeps possession better

I was looking at bringing in Hazard and Lukaku.

However Hazard potential risky minutes over the christmas period along with not having the confidence really to put the captaincy on Lukaku has led me to Rooney again!

There are 3 gameweeks over the christmas period here which Suarez and Aguero are risky captain picks and it looks like it would be best to captain someone else. Now looking at the fixtures those 2 are Lukaku and Rooney but as I said I am more tempted by Rooney due to the fact I have more confidence having the armband on him than Luakaku (maybe because I think Lukaku is a bit of a wildcard).

    GW 16
    Aguero - Arsenal H
    Suarez - Spurs A
    Rooney - Villa A
    Lukaku - Fulham H

Captain - Rooney or Lukaku. Would feel safer to have rooney and captain him to be honest over Lukaku anyweek

    GW 17
    Aguero - Fulham A
    Suarez- Cardiff H
    Rooney - West Ham H
    Lukaku - Swansea A

    Captain - Suarez

    GW 18
    Aguero - Liverpool H
    Suarez - Man city A
    Rooney - Hull A
    Lukaku - Sunderland H

Captain - Lukaku looks the best shout but if I had a choice I would again go rooney as don't feel confident captaining Lukaku

    GW 19
    Aguero - Palace H
    Suarez -Chelsea A
    Rooney - Norwich A
    Lukaku - Southampton H

    Captain - Rooney

    GW 20
    Aguero - Swansea A
    Suarez -Hull H
    Rooney - Spurs H
    Lukaku - Stoke A

    Captain - Suarez

So GW 16, 18 and 19 don't look good times to captian suarez or aguero.

I know it sort of inbalances the team but Rooney does look tempting here just for the reason to have the captain choice.

So who should I bring in for Gerrard for a -4? (Have 0.1 in the bank and Gerrard selling price of 9.0)

A - Oscar (Have Hazard already but this should guarantee 1 starter against Palace)
B - Silva (Have Aguero already, City have good fixtures after Arsenal)

'Twas an easy one, really. The category was Sports Term History. The question/answer (however you look at it) went something like this. - Roger Staubach remarked that, after throwing a big pass in a specific football game, he closed his eyes and said this?

Ah, then you have much to learn. I gather you're in the UK? I grew up a Steelers fan. Both parents from Pittsburgh. Most Super Bowl wins of all time. Whoopie!

Here's another term for ya. Flea Flicker - it's a play where the quarterback hands it off to the running back, and the running back fakes to run, only to stop, turn, and pitch it back to the waiting quarterback who tosses it up for a bomb (aka, a long pass).

For what it's worth, I started playing organized soccer, sorry football, at age 5. Some guy from Scotland started a traveling club in my hometown called the Medina Rangers. We played in tournaments around the States and dipped into Canada once in a while. Pele was even at one of the tournaments back in the 80's. Good times them. Good times indeedaroo.

How much is too much to keep lying around in your bank?

Basically, I'm pretty happy with my team but currently have £2.7m stashed. I was keeping it around for upgrading Giroud to Rooney, but went Lukaku instead.

The spots in my team which I'd consider upgrading don't need anything near that sort of cash.. currently toying with the idea of upgrading Distin to Baines when he's back as a luxury pick.

What do you think? I kinda like having it around as it gives me alot of flexibility should I want to shake things up.

I have 4.6m right now ITB but I know I'm gonna use it to do Ravel to Silva next week.

After that I might do Ivanovic to Burner instead of Merte which mean it'll leave me 2m ITB.

That's a good amount me thinks. Don't really have any concern with the team, but it'll give me the flexbility to do Ramsey to Wally if needed.

i had about 5mil early in the season due to cheapie mids........yes it is very powerful to be able to buy anyone, but i feel its fairly inefficient to have to much 'dead money' ie not earning you points (unless your cheap team is scorin well)

I think I would if I didn't have half decent subs lined up.

Anyone find it odd that Wenger gave Ozil 90 minutes against Napoli when Arsenal have Man City away on Saturday? It's even a midday kick off.

Also, for Walcott not to make an appearance, do you think he's planning on throwing him in as a unknown quantity for Pellegrini?

Either Wenger thinks that Ozil is intelligent enough to take rests during a game, or he wasn't planning on starting him against City, or he simply doesn't think he needs the rest. Baffled!
