From The Physio

From the Physio – Sergio Aguero

Sergio Aguero’s calf injury in the 6-3 win over Arsenal has served up a potential major setback for thousands of Fantasy managers. With Manuel Pellegrini offering us little insight into the severity of the injury and a scan imminent, we can only wait on news from the Etihad. However, resident Fantasy Football Scout physio, Facer, has made a timely return to offer his early view. Analysing the incident involved and Aguero’s reaction and movement, here’s Facer’s detailed report and his take on the likely prognosis.

The incident occurred barely a minute into the second half and gives a clear indication of the mechanism of injury. Playing a one-two with David Silva, Sergio Aguero receives the ball and with one touch plays it back into the path of Silva. Almost immediately Aguero starts to limp and, several seconds later, in an attempt to take the pressure from the injury, falls on to his back. At first glance the incident looked fairly innocuous, but with closer inspection, we see that the former Atletico man didn’t quite have the time to position himself correctly and improvises a one-touch pass into Silva’s run with a subtly excessive rotation at the right hip. This is significant because the contracting Gluteal muscles produce a rotatory force at the hip and, with the studs of Aguero’s right boot planted firmly in the ground, severely restricting movement at the hip and ankles, this force had nowhere to go, resulting in a tear to one of the calf muscles.

As Aguero is lying on the ground his demeanour is interesting. He does not appear to be in a great deal of pain and he is not reaching for the injury. In terms of severity, these are positive signs. Suffering a severe calf strain is like being shot in the back of the leg and Aguero would have hit the ground immediately and would need to have been stretchered off. We then see the Argentine hobble from the field. It is worth noting that, although exhibiting severely restricted movement at the right ankle, Aguero is able to partially weight bear on the injured limb, giving us a further clue as to the severity and likely duration of any absence. Similarly, as Aguero is led from the field, we can observe him palpating the back of his calf towards the ‘belly’ of the Gastrocnemius, suggesting a tear to the meat of the muscle rather than attachments, which heals more quickly. In summary, I would suggest that Aguero has suffered a grade 1-2 calf strain, which would see him sidelined for a minimum of 10 days, but more likely 2-3 weeks. Sadly for his owners, that would see Aguero miss at least the next three league outings.

A Scout Disclaimer: While Facer offers an expert’s view of such injuries, with just a remote assessment to go on, the opinions expressed here should not be taken as fact or acted on with any degree of certainty.

How did Rooney look? Not up front?

    Better choice

    Negredo
    Rooney?

He was outstanding. But was playing deep. If United get back ANY of their injured CMers, even Darran Fletcher, you'd expect him to continue up front. He's in great form with great fixtures. I'd get Wazza.

yeah i think the big one to determine rooneys position would be carrick's injury status, he played in mid because there is noone else good enough to control it like that

      vs

      http://s21.postimg.org/frk6oli3b/Rooney_form.jpg

      Also,

      1) Rooney is playing DMC last night, seeing MU playing well that way he may kept the role at least for the short term

      2) Rooney is making the play for United which means someone else will be getting the end of it

      3) MU is inconsistent

      4) Negredo is now hold the 'sole' responsibility of scoring for City, although we know the midfield are more than capabale to do so as well

      5) That being said, Negredo will be the focal point of City's attack, as compared to when Aguero is in

      6) Negredo is being supplied by Nasri, Silva and Navas + Zabaleta's cross which can only do good for him

      7) Fixtures wise are very similar, so no difference there

      8) Talks of Negredo being not nailed on is rubbished since Jovetic is just returned from long injury and Dzeko is out of favour. He will start AT LEAST the 5 of the next 6 league games, I reckon he will start all of them as he is fit.

      9) Negredo less popular, good differential.

        Negredo:

        26/12 : Pool
        27/12
        28/12 : Palace

You really think he'll play 4 games in 10 days with the amount of depth City have?

The Palace game is the only 1 game out of the next 6, I'm not fully confident Negredo will play.

But then again considering Aguero is out and Dzeko is shite, Negredo might start or at least get a run in the game.

Newcastle only scored one (somewhat lucky) goal at home to Southampton... on the road against in-form Palace will not be easy.

Thoughts on this move for -8?

    Aguero + Brady + Koscielny -----> Negredo + Walcott + Evans/Ward(can afford a 5.2m def)

    Leaves me with:

    Mignolet / Lewis
    Distin / Evans / Clyne / Turner / Wilson
    Ramsey / Hazard / Özil / Walcott / Whittingham
    Lukaku / Negredo / Suárez

I thought he'd be main striker, it seems Moyes wants him to cover his dodgy midfield as well.

It's not good news if this is how it stays until RVP is back and I don't think I can give serious consideration to Welbeck yet.

It's not 0.1 though TM, if you were planning say an 8pt hit and all the six players involved will rise or fropm that's a .6 swing even if they only rise/fall once which is unlikely. In theory there could be a 1.8m swing for three players

was all set for a good GW. Rooney C.

Then comes AVBs shit tactics at home and obviously with the knowledge that suarez needs to be doubled up on lets him reign free.

Meanwhile Rooney plays deep and gets one assist.

Suarez get 44 points as captain. while rooney gets 10.

Was all set to rise from 550k to the 250-300k mark. Suarez saves almost ever casual and i only gain 50k places.

If that isnt bullsh!t i dont know what is.

Stats and opposition favoured Rooney and lukaku. Most people on here did not go for suarez. 95% of casuals went Suarez.

Done deal. No one would of expected 22 points too and then rooney to drop deep. It was a culmination of the swiss cheese effect resulting is a fking shit score.

Stats? What stats? Suarez is the stats king - the only thing that favoured the other 2 is the fixtures because Spurs defence is considerably overrated because of their efforts when they actually had their back 4.

22 points is obviously more than expected, but let's be honest here, you'd be moaning no matter how much Suarez scored as long as it was more than your captain.

My defence is Mignolet, Terry, Mert, Jags, Clyne, Burner.

Was thinking Terry to Coleman but having 2 defenders from the same side is risky. I don't mind a g/k & a defender from the same side but I think 2 actual defenders is not prudent. However Coleman is on fire atm. Also Everton playing Swansea away this week so is a cs for Everton feasible. My other option is Terry to Zabaleta or a cheapy like Hull's C. Davies/Chester, Newcastle's Williamson or a Palace defender like Ward. I know a lot are doubling up on Everton but is this wise. Opinions please.
