Scout Scribbles – Aguero Sidelined for City

Sergio Aguero is out until mid-January with a calf injury. Nathan Dyer is sidelined with ankle ligament damage. Ben Foster hits the comeback trail, Ron Vlaar remains a doubt for Villa, while Mauricio Pochettino reveals a knock forced Adam Lallana onto the Southampton bench at Newcastle last time around:

Aguero Ruled Out by Calf Injury

Both Manuel Pellegrini and Sergio Aguero confirmed the player is set for “at least one month” on the sidelines with the calf complaint that forced him off early on in the second-half of Saturday’s 6-3 win over Arsenal.

Speaking to the press ahead of the midweek Capital One Cup clash against Leicester, the City boss confirmed the news that is set to spark a scramble right across the Fantasy games:

“I think he will be, at least, one month out. He has a calf injury. Maybe the doctor can say exactly how many weeks he will be.”

Aguero then took to twitter to give his followers an update on the injury:

“It’s confirmed – my calf injury will leave me out for at least a month. The good news is recovery work starts today!”

The Scout Says: As the festive fixtures pick up pace, a month’s absence would force Aguero out of the next five Gameweeks against Fulham, Liverpool, Palace, Swansea and Newcastle. United’s Wayne Rooney is the favoured replacement but his move to a more withdrawn berth for Sunday’s win at Villa has seen some Fantasy managers reassess their plans, with Alvaro Negredo offering a relatively cheap  9.4 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) – route into City’s attack all the way to the winter wildcard. A move for the Spaniard would also retain coverage of Pellegrini’s attack, though with David Silva, Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri all impressing against the Gunners, there are plenty of options in midfield for those who reckon Pellegrini could switch to 4-5-1 and perhaps look to the mobility of Silva to offer his compatriot support as the lone forward.

Pochettino Explains Lallana Sub Role

The Southampton manager has revelaed Adam Lallana was handed a spot on the bench against Newcastle on Saturday after picking up a knock prior to the trip to St James’ Park.

“Adam had a slight injury and he wasn’t fully fit to be playing the full 90 minutes. We are not going to take any risks with our players. We thought he could come on in the second half as a sub and have an impact and we’re delighted at the way that he did.”

The Scout Says: Having started every league match up until last weekend, Lallana had been one of the few ever-presents under the Argentine this season. Given that Pochettino is without a number of injured first-team options, his decision to court caution with his captain’s fitness is understandable ahead of the Christmas schedule and is somewhat reassuring for Lallana’s 17% owners. Nonetheless, with attacking returns in just one of the last eight matches, Saturday’s bench role looks the final straw for many – over 19,000 have sold him since the weekend, more than any other midfielder in the FPL game.

Toffees Confirm Deulofeu Hamstring Scan Results

Everton have issued an update on Gerard Deulofeu, who was stretchered off in Saturday’s win over Fulham after sustaining a hamstring injury. A report in the club’s official website states:

“Scans have now shown the extent of the soft tissue injury in his right hamstring, which is likely to keep him out for a few weeks.”

The Scout Says: The youngster’s enforced absence looks good news for owners of Kevin Mirallas over the kind upcoming schedule. The Belgian was omitted from the first XI against the Cottagers as Roberto Martinez allowed Deulofeu the role on the right of the front three, after he climbed off the bench to fire an equaliser at the Emirates. Granted, there are other options for the Everton boss but it’s noticeable that on both occasions Mirallas has been dropped, it has been at Deulofeu’s expense. With his only real competition sitting in the treatment room, the 7.2-priced Belgian will be looking to replicate his late goal against the Cottages over a run which pits the Merseysiders against Swansea, Sunderland, Southampton, Stoke and Norwich in the next five.

Foster on the Comeback Trail

The Baggies first-choice stopper is edging towards a return after turning out for the club’s reserves. Foster lasted the planned 45 minutes before making way at the break in a 2-0 defeat to Man City:

The Scout Says: Sidelined since Gameweek 2 with a broken foot, Foster’s absence has afforded Boaz Myhill the chance to keep goal for the last three months. The Welshman has managed just three clean sheets over his 14 appearances for the midlands outfit and looks set to continue at home to Hull this weekend as Foster increases his match fitness with the club’s second-string side. After the Tigers’ visit, West Brom face three road trips in four but, with Steve Clarke sent packing after a run of two points from six games, many will be more than happy to steer clear until performances pick up under the club’s new manager.

Scans Confirm Ligament Damage for Dyer

Swansea have revealed Nathan Dyer is set to be sidelined with ankle ligament damage after being stretchered off during Sunday’s draw at Norwich. While initial fears of a suspected break have been allayed, the club have admitted they are uncertain over the length of absence after the winger sustained “ruptured lateral ligament and further damage to two other ligaments”.

The Scout Says: Having scored in three of the last six Gameweeks, including the weekend game with Norwich, Dyer’s absence is a real blow at a time where the Welsh club continue to toil for goals. Michu has drawn blanks in each of the last two since returning from knee and ankle problems and has now failed to score in seven appearances, with just two strikes to his name all term. With Wayne Routledge looking a peripheral figure under Laudrup, Alex Pozuelo’s Fantasy stock may be set to rise – coming in at a mere 4.2, he’d started four successive league fixtures from Gameweek 11-14 before being utilised as a sub over the last two.

Vlaar Still a Weekend Doubt

Paul Lambert confirmed it is “too early” to decide whether his skipper will return in time for Saturday’s trip to Stoke. Vlaar also rolled out an injury update on the Villa official website, going on to say:

“Like any other player, I do everything possible to remain at peak fitness but I felt my calf during the first half at St Mary’s and it really stiffened up at half-time so there was no point in continuing. Hopefully it won’t be too long before I’m back because I remember how infuriating it was to be out of action last winter.”

The Scout Says: Subbed off at the break in the Gameweek 14 loss to Southampton, Vlaar’s absence has been significant to his side’s defensive displays. Paul Lambert’s side have conceded at least twice in each of the last three league matches – prior to the Dutchman’s absence, they had registered three clean sheets in four. The short-term fixtures are still in Villa’s favour (sto, CPL, SWA, sun) and suggest that if Vlaar recovers quickly, the prospects of defensive returns look set to take a turn for the better – with a run against Arsenal, Liverpool and Everton from Gameweek 24, though, those holding Lambert’s defenders may well be plotting an escape route with the winter wildcards.

Very sad to see Michael Clarke and his merry band of bogans walk over England.

On another note is it worth losing Koc and upgrading Sess to Walcott for -8?

Nope. Everyone had Cazorla before the boxing day game against West Ham (which ironically is also the same this season) was postponed then got Walcott in after the blank, when boom he exploded.

i just can't see how to go up in rankings anymore

-with Aguero OUT and Rooney deepier positioning and most importantly Suarez crazy run i can't see any other capitan option than Suarez and i am sure that at least 90% people will constantly C him

    -Lukaku,Aguero,Rooney are now template strikers

-Walcott/Ozil , Hazard,Ramsey and Silva + chap mid are now template midfilders

-Coleman +ward/Chester are now template defenders

thing i hate the most is that there is no real differentials for thos template players

you can't expect some random defender to give you boost in ranking

i have Cout+Nasri for this gw but Cout will go , so Nasri is staying as the only differential and he is still worst option than Silva

it will be impossible for me to move in top 10k cause all have same players and same C

Aguero rulled out are bad news for people who catching up and brilliant for those who are safty in top 10k cause there is not a slight chanse that they will dropp in rank

hope something will change on january wc....but can't see goof fpl future at this moment

I think the problem so far has been not that the differentials aren't paying off but more that the template players aren't falling away, and keep producing week after week.

Think the Jan wildcard will definitely spice things up though. Relying on double gameweeks, heavy priced mids(Walcott, Michu, Silva), and new players to climb up the rankings.

Everyone captaining Suarez isn't a bad thing entirely. Just make up the points in other areas of the squad. Ozil/Walcott might fight for one spot, and if one team has Ozil and the other Walcott - there's the differential. 10 point swing either way still gives solid movement up and down the ranks.

There might be a template set of maybe 10-15 players, but every individual's team combination is likely to be different, keeping in mind personal preference, budget constraints, budget allocation etc.

Not the end of the world. A defeatist attitude won't help. I'm actually looking forward to it, could force the casuals out without planning a team well.

Get 80% template and throw in a few differentials instead of what you regard as the weaker template players.

A few differentials paying off can easily get you 10/20 points above the masses. that's more than enough to pull you up the ranks.

this has been my tactic and has generally been effective this season.

Personally I'm doing Ozil & Sess > Walcott and Silva (-4). Could blow up in my face this gameweek but i'm definitely keeping these 2 for awhile.

The other alternative is Kosc & Sess > 4.8 defender and Silva, keep Ozil. This would leave my defence really light (Coleman Chester Bturner Ward 4.8)

So I'm hoping Kosc heals up quick and would want him for the run of games after Chelsea.

Nasri vs Silva, is it clear cut?

Nasri's general play and stats recently have been good, plus he can be explosive, albeit frustrating. Silva has a suspension looming, but probably will play in the hole and is the better player long term.

..So short term, Nasri owners should...?

For me, Silva's overall positioning sense and eye for a final pass/goal are what ticks it in his favour. He's the better footballer imo and will be nailed on. Nasri is playing well at the moment but might lose his place at anytime.

Just as a point of order...Plenty of folk doing, and getting nervous about multiple transfers this week...There is no such thing as a -4 or a -8 until you have calculated the score you get this coming gameweek as oppose to the score you would have had without the transfers...or investments as i prefer to call them (hopefully)...Even then it require that you calculate subsequent gameweeks to monitor how you "no hits" team was doing without the -4's and -8's..How many people took a "-4" to get Suarez or Aguero in earlier in the season?...you'd be hard pushed to class either of those as "-4's"

yep its actually very hard to evaluate hits as theyre kind of like sliding doors moments, where your team is now an alternate universe..... to work out the permutations of every hit done or not done would require a supercomputer.............yet still ppl see it as merely -X points off total score

Yeah...If you have Giroud and sell him for Rooney and Rooney get's a hat trick as C (and Giroud blanks) then it's a transfer for about (+40(ish))...alternatively if you do the transfer and Rooney blanks and Giroud score a brace (ha)..than it's a transfer for about (-20 (ish))... All this -4 and -8's isn't real...

Is it too much to ask to get injury news from the Arsenal camp before the pressers ahead of the weekend? Would like to know what's going on with Kosc. Anyone heard any estimates for any potential length of absence?

I rushed him out on Sunday night to afford RavMo to Walcott.. Will be wanting him or some other Arsenal cover back asap though.. Their run now in the league is looking brilliant for cleanies until Liverpool away (Feb 8th?)

What is the point of price rises??? I mean, it doesn't give u more. money to spend on transfers, just makes it harder for others to buy that player.

it very much does give you more ..... ie i got 0.5m more to spend thanks to sellin aguero ....assumin he drops i should be in profit....

over a season it all adds up and you can afford the best for the final run in

If you bought a player at or near his cheapest and sold him at his peak, aguero for instance. Then you would have more money to spend on transfers..

Ignore Walcott until the Wildcard, or lose one of these guys? Don't really want to lose any, but Theo is Theo.....I've shown my purchase price for each if that makes a difference....

    Hazard (9.6m)

What is your strikeforce? Assuming you've got 3 big hitters, you don't really want to upgrade Ravel and have to bench 1 of a mean front 8.

If you have Lukaku, i'd be tempted to upgrade Mirallas of any of them.

I'm waiting to see proven form and fitness from Walcott before getting him in

As things stand right now I'd look to upgrade Nasri next GW. Ramsey is still one of the best picks in the game IMO, especially at that price, and you need one bench midfielder (Ravel). Hazard is in good form and Mirallas is great value as well.

but it does give you more money to spend. Only a hindrance if you are trying to buy that player. eg; suarez at 13m. If you had bought him for 10.9 you would have 11.9million to spend

I'd be tempted to go with Ravmo.... A is probably safer but it could be one of those days where the player the club let go comes back to haunt them. Ravel will be fired up to play against Man U at Old Trafford! I think I'd go with that punt...considering it myself though I have 4 relatively big hitters in mid so it's hard to choose who to drop.
