Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Siesta

When the team sheets arrived for City’s home clash against Palace on Saturday afternoon, a certain little Spaniard’s Fantasy owners were full of optimism for the 90 minutes ahead. By the final whistle, though, those same folk were left cursing their misfortune as David Silva handed them the most unwanted of Christmas cards – a fifth caution of the season which rules him out of Wednesday’s trip to Swansea.

Silva not only seems to have stepped up in consistency under Manuel Pellegrini (a goal or assist in eight of 11 appearances), he has also developed a penchant for picking up yellows. Over his previous three seasons with the Etihad club, the playmaker had received a total of four bookings in the league – he’s managed to mirror that already this term and with a caution accrued in the Capital One Cup, he’ll be tucking into his New Year’s Day dinner while Pellegrini’s side make their way to the Liberty.

Also sidelined through suspension are a couple of defenders – Villa’s Ciaran Clark and Chelsea’s David Luiz. Clark will miss a crucial trip to Sunderland, whilst Luiz, in just his eighth league start, picked up a fifth caution of the season in yesterday’s home win over Liverpool and will sit out the trip to Southampton.

The trio joined Sunderland’s Wes Brown on the banned list – the Black Cats centre-half serves the last of a three-match ban and will be available for the FA Cup clash against Carlisle at the weekend.

After Wednesday, the Tightrope extends to 10 bookings, with the new deadline Sunday April 13 (Gameweek 34). A special mention goes to Newcastle’s right-back Mathieu Debuchy – with seven cautions to his name, the Frenchman is just three yellows away from suspension already.

Play Barkley. Sterling for FT was my move but for -4 too much of a risk I think.

Thats been some time, they seem to be more composed nowadays, at least they didn't concede in 2 out of the last 3 matches. Plus even when they concede its not really too much.

As for Southampton, they seem a bit hit and miss since their defense fell apart.

he got a big score recently, is not a defensive mid anymore, and is under 5mil. unfortunatley all of those things describe colback too.

i know some will have bought mert nearer 5.5mil so this may not be the case but koscielny and nastasic is 1.8mil cheaper than mertesacker and zabaleta. food for thought. 0.9 on each may not seem so much, but 1.8mil saved for elsewhere is big

well if we go on this season so far zabaleta has a very high 5 assists yet his ppg is 4.2 to nastasic's 4.0. zaba had a sub app but then nasty went off at half time in a clean sheet.

he's had an abnormally high 5 assists already and hasn't, don't see why it will change too much. would be surprised if he doesnt score a goal by the end of the season, but think nasty will chip back at him with odd bps. also richards is back soon, whatever nasty loses out on with injury proneness i think nasty will lose out on around champions league matches. (albeit maybe only 2 matches as its barcelona)

    Manchester City team news.

Pellegrini will be boosted by the return of Pablo Zabaleta, Yaya Toure and Alvaro Negredo after they were rested against Crystal Palace.

'Pablo played against Liverpool and it was a risk for him to play two games in 44 hours. Yaya Toure and Alvaro Negredo were a little tired so it was better to refresh,' he added.

Pellegrini also confirmed that he will be without long-term absentees Stevan Jovetic, Martin Demichelis, Micah Richards and Sergio Aguero for the visit to Wales on Wednesday.

'Sergio is doing his recovery from his calf injury. I suppose that in January he will be ok.'
City will also be without David Silva as he picked up a fifth booking of the season against Palace.
