Gameweek 28 Manchester Derby Set to Be Rescheduled

This evening the inevitable has now been confirmed. Following Manchester City’s 9-0 aggregate victory over West Ham in the Capital One Cup, Fantasy managers are facing up to the prospect of a blank Gameweek 28 for Manuel Pellegrini’s side – the knock-on effect, of course, means we will also have a double Gameweek to consider at some point:

With City now making their way to Wembley on Sunday March 2, their currently-scheduled short hop across town to Old Trafford will be postponed and take place on an, as yet, unconfirmed date. As a result, neither Manchester side will have a fixture in Gameweek 28, meaning Fantasy managers will need to plan accordingly.

As both sides are still competing in the Champions League (and given UEFA are really dragging out the first knock-out round of the competition), there really is very little room for manoeuvre in terms of rescheduling – unless, of course, both are eliminated. At present, there are very few entirely open slots to add in an extra game (there are a couple in April and May, should the fixture planners be overly patient but these should really be “saved” for potential further upheaval).

As best as we can tell, then, there are two possible midweek slots available for this game to take place before the end of March.

Wednesday February 5 (ie, Gameweek 25) is a possibility, though a number of factors weigh against this. Given that it is so soon for such a high-profile game (in terms of policing, promotion and broadcasting rights) and that City’s Gameweek 24 home clash with Chelsea is set to take place just two days before, on Monday February 3, we reckon this is an unlikely scenario. Furthermore, that midweek period is also set aside for FA Cup replays, should City unexpectedly fail to beat Watford at the first time of asking next weekend.

If the Hornets spring a surprise and and knock Pellegrini’s side out of the cup next Saturday, the United game would almost certainly be re-arranged for the weekend of February 15-16 (ie, Gameweek 26). Somehow, though, we just don’t see that happening.

Therefore, it would seem that the likeliest date for the rescheduled Manchester derby will be Tuesday 25th or Wednesday 26th March (GW31). This scenario would give City (FUL, mun) and United (whm, MCI) for the chance to rack up the Fantasy returns but these dates, once again, are reserved for an FA Cup replay and are subject to City’s progress in the competition – basically, then, there’s still no 100% guarantee.

In layman’s terms: Manchester United versus Manchester City (GW28) will now be postponed to another Gameweek TBC. It’s most likely to occur in GW31 but this is only a guess from folks who pay close attention to the fixtures and far from a certainty. We will share an official date of the rescheduled fixture as soon as one of the clubs involved disseminate the information to us.

Beyond this fixture, United are set to finish their own Capital One Cup tie tomorrow evening at home to Sunderland. If David Moyes’ side turn their fortunes around and win there will be no further upheaval but further fixture changes would be afoot if the Wearsiders hold onto their lead as Sunderland’s Gameweek 28 clash with West Brom would be postponed.

Seeing as neither side is competing in Europe, this game could be rescheduled to pretty much any Gameweek going forward – aside from midweek Gameweek 28, due to international friendlies. We will, of course, issue an update as soon as we find out.

One thing is certain, though. Blank and double Gameweeks have returned and those who play the closest attention could have a really great advantage over their rivals as the battle for mini-league superiority heats up. As always, we’ll keep you up to date when we know more.

You've spent way too much for a Cardiff defender. Downgrade Caulker or get Azpi instead imo.

Not in love with JRod, but suppose he's in form and good value.
Huddlestone just got sent off didn't he? Sterling, Mutch, Noone better options IMO.
      Cab may be leaving.
Would replace Harper to a starter if possible

How's my WC looking fellas? £0.2 itb. Can downgrade either Terry or Studge later for the Ramsey>Rambo move. Is there a better option than Bruce?.

    Mannone (Marshall)
Merte - Terry - Kolarov (Bruce, Ward)
Hazard - Yaya - Wilshere - Cabaye (Noone)
    Sturridge - Aguero - Suarez

I'd prefer a Johnson or Eriksen over Yaya for the next 2 GW's but all in all it looks good.
Sturridge is a decent shout with the derby but I think I'd prefer Ade on his form and more explosive too. Would allow you to upgrade Noone also. (But you can always trade later on a FT).
      Can't please everyone!

Oh dear. The logic in this world is phenomenal.

"Atlético Madrid are hoping to hijack Manchester United's attempts to sign Juan Mata by offering David Moyes first option on striker Diego Costa and Brazilian full-back Filipe Luis if he withdraws from the race for the Chelsea midfielder."

        Fact A
Chelsea may need a striker like Diego Costa, and the next most pressing need could well be depth at left back.

        Fact B
Man United have been linked to Juan Mata

        Conclusion
Therefore, Atletico Madrid will offer first option on an exceptional striker* and a quality left back to Manchester United instead of Chelsea in order to get United to back out of a move that Atletico can't afford anyway.

        Logic. Hurrayyyy!

Another great example of sports journalism - no source, what use is first refusal on players that they may choose not to sell and also may choose not to come to United. I also don't believe that any of the three players discussed are the players United need.

At the moment my WC defense looks like this:

    Terry / Azpilicueta / Mertesacker / Parr / Whittaker

Would you downgrade one of Terry/Mert (likely to Cahill/Ivan or Kosc) to free up funds to upgrade the 3.9s or for future transfers? I'm playing for rises right now, so I'll likely end up with enough ITB to get from Parr to Ward (or Gabbidon if I'm lucky) without making any changes, so I guess I'm asking if I should be aiming to upgrade that fourth defender to someone in the 4.4-5.0 range.

To those who're puzzled as to why United may be potentially be willing to take a big risk and pay a staggering 40m for Mata, here's a great article on the potential domino effect.

Yup, smart move for United. They need these kind of names to keep in standing with 'the brand', especially with Rooney likely to leave soon. On the pitch too, obviously Mata is great, but like Ozil did with Arsenal, it will galvanize the team, especially for the likes of Van Persie.

The article is pretty good ( it's my sort of field) but the question for me is if United are going to spend 40m is Mata the sort of player we need and the sort of player Moyes would get the best out of. No doubt in my mind Mata is world class, but is he 40m better than Rooney or Kagawa in that position - I would say not. I can't see Moyes playing 4231 with three of Mata, Rooney, Kagawa, Januzaj behind RVP if/when they're all fit. The 40m spent on central midfield would make a much bigger difference to the chance of Champions League football, if not for next season, then for the season after imo.

They said Ozil wasn't the player Arsenal need but look at how that transfer affected Arsenal. He's a global name, top class, signals intent etc etc. He's better than Rooney in midfield, or course, younger, and will play for less.

And yes, he's better than Kagawa.

The thing is you don't get these kind of players with rare traits and relatively well established in the PL at a time when your club is in crisis. I agree it's not exactly return on investment at Mata but I suppose it could influence the players around Mata with a slight change in formation (playing a diamond or a 4-2-2-2 like City)

Besides, usually the best transfers are about who's available. How many people thought RVP would be worth the money when United bought him? Hernandez and Welbz were doing a decent job supporting Rooney, who also bought Kagawa in the same window. Look how that paid off in one season.

I hope you're right as it is starting to sound like it's going to happen. I still think it's a panic move on United's behalf to show that we can still attract top players/compete in the transfer market but will be delighted to prove wrong.

I'm convinced it will be a good deal for United. I don't see what's in it for us so I can't see us letting him go in Jan unless:
            1) We get a first refusal for Rooney clause in the summer or
            2) We're close to signing a top notch striker (Cavani) and could do with some Mata fund.

You get more money than you would if you waited until the summer and I reckon Roman is waiting to see if FFP will be enforced or not. If it is enforced then selling for the best possible price, as you seem to have achieved already with KdB is going to be a great way of complying whilst still competing for the best players.

I also think he wants a top striker - City will not be going away anytime soon so the Premier League is going to be tough to win - your lot were 5/1 last May

Not sure 40m for Mata is 'staggering' though. When you look at the market and compare the acquisitions of Willian for 30 odd (unproven in premier league) and Bale 80 odd. 30m for Berba... 50 for Torres etc. Mata is probably worth it.

Well, Mata at 40m in the summer wouldn't have been staggering. But he's technically off form for 6 months now and no one knows if Mourinho may actually have found some issue with Mata. The mark up is mainly because United are still considered a "rival" (so was Torres)

I have Marshall (mun) and Davis(not playing) as my keepers this GW.

Should I take a hit to replace one? Or just take the inevitable minus points?

Davis always plays. He like queens it to steal Thuds Moms on occasions according to the dream team panel since Brady has had his complications and now jelly belly enters the equation. Any way I digress because my answer is a total fail to understand the question relating to keepers and I'm off on one about a defender for same club with same name.

Boruc took a knock on the wknd. He may still have some niggling injury (possibly with his hand).

Try typing a little slower, hard to understand what you're saying.

          Reasons for my choice:
I consider Sturridge and Adebayor to be fairly equal long term
As Ade is cheaper, he allows you to have a backup keeper which is often important

    Would u prefer Azpilicueta+3.9 or Bardsley+Demel?

Instinctively you'd think Azpilicueta is better, but the latter pair look absolutely delicious.

    Fixtures til end of season:
STK SWA HUL NOR SOU WBA HUL PAL nor WHM LIV EVE PAL CAR TOT SWA

Only 3 tough weeks, plenty weeks against the worst offensive sides. Also get the added bonus of Bardsley attacking threat.

With the added caveat of rotation for Azpil around CL and perhaps losing his place, I think I'm going for the rotators

It's a league where no two people in the league can own the same player. You go in turns picking players till you all have a team.
Once the league has started, you trade with people to get players other people own.

In the above example there were 5 players in the league,
Person 1 picked Suarez, person 2 picked Aguero, ..., Person 5 picked Sturridge and Negredo, next it's player 4's turn... and so on..

Right, everyone laughed at my weakest defence WC team, now for the weakest midfield:

    Cech / Szczesny

Azpilicueta / Terry / Mertesacker / Koscielny / Baines (rotate Chelsea and Arsenal Baines stays as the third defender)

    Januzaj / Adam / Puncheon / Ki Sung-Yueng / Mutch

    Suarez / Aguero / Sturridge

Thoughts? Feels bizarre having the two best defenders on the bench against Southampton!

My real problem with the team is that you are benching so much money each week. I have a four defender rotation with Kolarov-Azpi-Chriches-Kosc just for some protection. Downgrade Mertesacker and Terry to someone cheaper and then get rid of one of Cech/Chesny. Cech or Szczsny > Davis will save over 2 mil and even then I don't think an Arsenal/Chelsea double-up is worth it so if you downgraded that remaining keeper to someone like Boruc/Krul you could save a ton of money and thats just with your GKs! Most people are looking at all the mids well maybe except Adam as potential bench fodder fifth mids. A defense of a decent GK, Azpi-Kosc and someone else like Kolarov/Chiriches/Evans/someone else in that price range is still formidable enough to bring in Clean Sheets weekly and gives you so much money to upgrade that midfield which needs a lot of work. The difference between players like Eriksen/Lallana/Cabaye/Ramsey/AJ and the players in your midfield is monumental

The thing is I think you should get at least a better mid and I saw that you don't want to spend too much in the mids so I think you should get maybe Cabaye, Eriksen, Lallana, or Johnson in there esp the one keeper could make his way. Maybe do a Cech + Boruc or Szcz + Mcgregor if you really want to rotate the GKs.

I think the little overpaid Maggot needs more of a shot up the arse than Mert can give the toerag's earhole. Thing is the bug eyed git has not become a bad player overnight but has been caught in the headlights of the prem. He either shapes up or ships out.

I am loving his brain but want the twat to brawn it out and wake the fookin man up in him.

I'd give the twat 2 more wks max and if he turns out to be another BerbaKnobhead then ditch the ponse.

Cool cheers, think i'll give him the fame against Southampton then switch him out regardless, get some deserved reward off him then pass him on 🙂

Hmmm i suppose, i can see his potential high scores from now on though being quite sporadic, time will tell i guess, this time next week i could be praising him all over again haha!

    I have to admit, I do enjoy this game at times r.e;

If Ramsey doesn't play this week, into my side comes little Jack Colback , the strawberry bomber.

At home to Stoke, smash one through the jumpers boy, smash one through!
