Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII – Semi Final Draw

We’re down to the last four managers in the Fantasy Football Scout Cup VIII, sponsored by Paddy Power. Ahead of the next round of matches – which takes place in Gameweek 23, over next Tuesday and Wednesday’s matches – we take a look at the quartet who still harbour hopes of taking home the silverware.

Cunny Funts remains the favourite as we had into the final straight. Ranked at 688 overall, he saw off the challenge of YestheSess! in the quarter-finals and was the highest scoring manager to progress, with 71 points accrued in Gameweek 22. He’s up against Tdubb05 (36,120th overall), who racked up a 62-55 win over sim716 to make his way into the final four.

The pair have just five identical players – Seamus Coleman, Eden Hazard, Yaya Toure, Emmanuel Adebayor and Luis Suarez and both have made two transfers so far this week. Only Cunny Funts still has his wildcard left to play, though.

The other tie sees Ajax, with a rank of 23,489 overall, up against Tal, who currently sits in 57,457 in the rankings. Ajax is in the better form of the two – he outscored ec3dm by 60 points to 52 points to progress, whilst Tal booked him place in the semi-finals with a narrow 47-45 win over 11 Men in Flight.

Both managers have already played their wildcards, though intriguingly have just three of the same players – Suarez, Hazard and Adnan Januzaj – suggesting this one looks wide open.

As mentioned previously, it’s not just bragging rights on offer here – the top three will be rewarded for their exploits.

Winner – £100 worth of free bets. £100 Amazon Voucher
Runner-up – £50 worth of free bets. £50 Amazon Voucher
3rd Place – £50 worth of free bets. £25 Amazon Voucher

When he signed his last deal they reported it as being 300k as well. Nowhere near that then, and won't be that much this time.

2 from Eriksen, Cabaye, Lallana, Miralles?

I'm currently on Cabaye and Eriksen as they're cheaper, have better fixtures and a greater propensity to score consistent points.

With Mata going to United and RVP/Rooney due back soon, I expect United fortunes to pick up, and with decent fixtures to come, would Coleman to Rafael be totally crazy?

Rafael low ownership, nailed on with a good attacking threat, Everton got some tough fixtures coming up.

this is my team for GW23 (not making any more changes; already wildcarded 2 weeks ago):

    Boruc - Davis
    Ward - Chester - Coleman - Kosc - Azpi
    Lallana - Silva - Haz - Cabaye - Colback
    Suarez - Aguero - Sturridge

for GW24 I plan to do Silva + Chester > Mata + Evans (or just the Mata one).
then bring in Kompany for Coleman in GW25.

and then when I have a luxury transfer in the future bring in Jedi/Noone for Colback.

    thoughts gents?

I believe you mean 4: Kompany, Evans, Mata, Kun

        Boruc (Davis)
Ward - Kosc - Azpi (Kompany, Evans)
Lallana - Haz - Cabaye - Noone (Mata)
        Suarez - Aguero - Sturridge

and that's 5 weeks away. I plan to have 2 FT for GW28 and sub someone in or just ride it out with a man down since everyone will be affected by City's blank and plenty will be affected by United's.

Do people think Arsenal will seal the Draxler move this week?

A big talent and it would be quite a coup picking him up.

Can only think a couple of extra players that have played with Ozil for Germany (I'm including Pod as he has missed most of the year) can be a big boost for our attack.

I would still go Silva if money was not an issue. City can score at will against anyone.

Otherwise, purely a 3 week punt AJ has some great fixtures and form.

Finally think I've (almost) settled on my WC team.

The last piece of the puzzle will be Mata. This week or the next.
Oscar has a pretty sweet fixture this week though, so i'm thinking about drafting him in on my WC, and use my FT next week for Mata.

Yes or no to Oscar in these scenarios?
    A) Mata starts on the bench.
    B) Mata is in the starting lineup.

If it's only one week you may as well just start with Mata. You never know what will happen in a GW and I have found in the past that planned transfers hardly ever come to fruition.

But if he's on the bench, that's a very possible 1-pointer.
Would very much like a full match from Oscar ahead of that.

Good point on the planned transfers part though. Will need to think about this.

No guarantee that even if Mata starts on the bench he will get a 1 pointer.

Also no guarantee that Oscar will score more than one.

Gotta play with your gut in these situations and hope you get it right.

My gut says keep Oscar. Man U are a mess right now, and mata will probably need time to bed in.

I don't actually own Oscar right now.
I have Hazard, and consider a one week double up.

From what you're saying, i guess your gut says Oscar. I have to say i agree, but if i see Mata in the starting lineup on tuesday, it will be a decission to make. I am trying to prepare for that.

            Thanks for your input.

WC-team, thoughts? Thin defence, but midfield compensates?
    Boruc (Mannone)
    Ward, Bardsley, Kolarov (Olsson, Vlaar)
    Yaya, Hazard, Cabaye, Lallana (Noone)
    Bony, Suarez, Aguero

It is a thin defence which I don't mind.... Except for Kolarov. If you only have one good defender you better make sure they are nailed on.

The rest I like. (However I did hear whispers that Noone may be losing his spot soon)

Probably posting way into the DZ, but damn hiccups keeping me awake!

Was just thinking about getting Mata in, then I asked myself:

Suppose you have 3 united players, say Evans, Janu and Roonpig to be realistic.

You bring in Mata now, as a Chelsea player.

Then what? 4 United players? Does the universe implode?

You would get to have 4 United players for that gameweek. The next gameweek, however, you would have to get rid of at least one to get back on the 3 mark.

Yes, you can keep them indefinitely until your next transfer.

There would be a lot more talk about this on here if United were having a normal season.

You can keep them for multiple weeks, just will never be able to do it again (obviously) when you transfer one out.

Last year when Ba went to Chelsea, I had Ba when he was on Newcastle and 3 Chelsea players - I kept 4 Chelsea for like 3 weeks before ditching Ba

    Morning folks,

best gk combo till end of season? Been looking at fixtures and rotations and the following stand out:
    - Cardiff + villa/swans/sland........can get a villa def at a much cheaper price
    - sland + newcastle
    - saints + newcastle

Looking at teams with cheapish gk's:
    - Hull...have 4 tough home games
    - Palace...4 tough home games
    - west hame...good home games but adrian not nailed on
    - saints...not sure what to make of them...boruc fit?

Thoughts? or any other combos i might have missed out upto 10m?

Seems Boruc is ok for now but looks a bit injury prone. Worthwhile having Davis as a back up.

I've steered clear of Hull because I don't like their fixtures for the run in.
I'd go Saints+ Newc if I could afford but I'd rather use the cash elsewhere.
