The Treatment Table – Gameweek 27

We roll out a new early-week regular this afternoon. Essentially, we take a quick look at the new names taking their place on the top-flight’s treatment tables and give you a heads-up on the injury worries sustained over the weekend. As always, you can track all the outs and doubts throughout the week via our injuries and bans table.

Arsenal
Arsene Wenger confirmed Mesut Ozil missed out of the 4-1 win over Sunderland after picking up a thigh problem but reckons the German “should be available” for next week’s trip to Stoke. Both Laurent Koscielny (back) and Nacho Monreal (foot) were subbed off in the second half, whilst Jack Wilshere – who played the full 90 minutes – has a tight hamstring.

Aston Villa
Paul Lambert revealed after the 1-0 defeat to Newcastle that his decisions to sub off both Ryan Bertrand and Ashley Westwood were enforced. The left-back had been struggling with a virus prior to the match, whilst Westwood sustained a dead leg and was unable to continue.

Chelsea
John Obi Mikel missed out with an unspecified injury, whilst Oscar lasted until half-time before being replaced by Ramires. After the game, Jose Mourinho explained the Brazilian’s withdrawal ahead of the midweek clash with Galatasaray:

“Today he was saying he could cope with the pain, it’s not a dangerous one, just a painful one. He said he could cope with the situation, clearly he couldn’t. We have three days so let’s see. With Mikel and David Luiz, I don’t know.”

Everton
Lacina Traore was named in the starting line-up for Saturday’s trip to The Bridge but picked up a hamstring problem during the pre-match warm-up and was replaced in the XI by Steven Naismith.

Hull
Both Tom Huddlestone and Alex Bruce were subbed off with knocks, according to reports in the local press. The pair were withdrawn on 63 minutes and 71 minutes of the 4-0 rout but are expected to be available for this evening’s FA Cup clash with Brighton.

Man City
Stevan Jovetic lasted just 13 minutes of Saturday’s win over Stoke before falling foul to injury. The forward emerged from the bench to replace Alvaro Negredo on 56 minutes but was quickly subbed off for Javi Garcia after sustaining a hamstring problem.

Newcastle
Hatem Ben Arfa missed out for the Magpies after picking up a knock which prevented him from training prior to the visit of Villa. Reports in the local press revealed Davide Santon was rested by Alan Pardew due to an ongoing knee problem.

Swansea
Neil Taylor was afforded a rare start at left-back for the Swans after Ben Davies missed yesterday’s defeat to Liverpool with “a slight calf problem,” according to the club’s official match report. After bagging a first-half wonder goal, Jonjo Shelvey was withdrawn at the break with a recurrence of a hamstring problem.

Tottenham
Tim Sherwood missed two of the back-four that started the previous Gameweek, after Kyle Walker and Younes Kaboul were ruled out of the trip to Norwich with hip and calf knocks respectively. Etienne Capoue lasted just 14 minutes of the Carrow Road defeat before limping off – he subsequently left the ground on crutches.

West Brom
Billy Jones was forced off just prior to half-time in the Baggies draw with Fulham. A tactical reshuffle saw Victor Anichebe replace the stricken defender – Pepe Mel admitted the Nigerian was only fit enough for the bench after picking up a knock in training.

Did you leave Bony on the bench in the Mail (Ironman ML) Epic?

I left Giroud benched in three teams across the games cos he'd not been performing.

Having been a Brighton fan since Div 3 sth and Nth merged, I am of course hoping they can show their usual away strength and overturn the expected result tonight and make it through quarter and semi finals to the Cup final again.

However, there is a tiny nagging piece of me that through the pain and misery of defeat, would take the smallest of evil joy at the frustration of the 80,000 or so who have brought in mainly West Ham, but also Hull players, for those with missing games in anticipation of a GW29 clash.

Should I be ashamed of myself?

People thinking Liverpool Sunderland will have a DGW in 31, surely Sunderland West Brom comes first. That leaves 34 much more likely IMO.

i think so too. ideal world would be gw36 as i'd find a man utd striker hard to sell in gw34 (home to hull) in order to buy back a liverpool striker

Should I use or save FT for this GW

    Team ATM is

    Marshall Mannone
    Clyne Burner Coleman Ivanovic Ward
    Eriksen Mata Pozuelo Lallana Hazard
    Suarez Sturridge Adebayor

I have 0.7 ITB and 1 precious FT but should I use it or save it so I have 2 FTs for GW 29?

BTW Eriksen Mata Suarez and Clyne have already dropped in price.

The question is do I save or use my FT for this week. If I don't I will have 2 FTs for GW 29?

    Cheers in advance 🙂

There should be at least 3 DGWs anyway, just load up on 3 City(Kun, Yaya + Defender), 2 Everton(Lukaku/Mirallas + Defender) & 2 Sunderland(AJ + Mannone) and you should be fine.

With good planning we can get nearly as strong a team as a WCer. Single GWers can still get lots of points in a DGW.

I'm a fan of an early WC, I think tactically it's the best use of it.

It is one of those things that puzzles me. People talk about how this player is creates more chances than that player. Or shoots more than that player. Or is better in the air than that player. But shooting better than that player.... nawt so much. (Suarez and Sturridge owner)

I think there was a fantasy website around, which classified shots from different positions, A for 6 yard area and I think D for out of the box?

I think looking solely at the numbers isn't just enough.

Suarez with 23(12 inside the box), Sturridge with 14(11). It really is puzzling how the difference in goals scored is that huge compared to number of shots.

I haven't watched any of the games lately, but anyone care to share how these shots really are? Are they decent attempts at all?

It becomes somewhat clearer when you watch the games. That's what I've based the captaincy on. We are talking real life players after all. To say all the information about their future performance can be contained in a few convenient stats is a big assumption that I think many people don't question.

Sturridge is getting shots in better positions, but he also, quite simply, is just shooting better right now. It's not really that unbelievable, is it? These things happen over the season.

I brought AJ in based on watching him in addition to the stats, which were good but not the best - he simply seemed to be playing very well, and was extremely motivated. The stats are a guide, but what stops fantasy football from being all about the stats is chance, and things the stats don't capture like mentality.

I remember thinking the same in the beginning of the season. Didn't start with Sturridge, but after seeing him in the first few games I could really see how much of a threat he was for the Liverpool team, got him in shortly after.

Would love to be able to watch more games though, but in the meantime I'll have to rely on quick recaps and stats.

Ah that's interesting, let me know if you find it.

Yes there is in fact some much more in depth analysis suggested by Opta - where they factor in precise shot position and the keepers faced. If you can face the read, it's here. http://www.optasportspro.com/en/about/optapro-blog/posts/2012/blog-assessing-the-performance-of-premier-league-goalscorers.aspx

Unfortunately statistics can be very misleading. Not having watched many recent Pool games I was going off the comparison tool to make my captain decisions. I did see much of the Swansea game and Suarez was poor. His half-hearted efforts on goal (apart from the forty yarder that went just wide), his passing in general we're not good at all.

His movement and eagerness are all still top drawer but it looks like he is trying too hard. Proof, if any was needed, that watching games eats statistics for breakfast every time. I shall my be making that mistake again 🙂
